This is a small camp site on a farm which I can recommend.

Location is excellent for walking into the hills, and Church Stretton is about an hour's walk away. I used the site as a base for a days hiking.

There are stunning views from the site, it is mostly surrounded by fields. Pleasant sound of farm life at night.

The facilities are basic but clean. There is a laundry room which also contains a kettle and 2 fridges - very useful.

The site owners are polite friendly and leave you to it once you've pitched up. Prices are also good - I will be back!

Came here for 1 night in June, because I forgot to book the campsite! This was the only place in the area with availability.

I was not disappointed, it was a nice quiet campsite next to some holiday cottages. There are only 5 pitches, and when we stayed we were the only campers. Nice views of the Shropshire Hills.

Facilities could get busy if all 5 pitches were occupied but there was no problem when we were there, and they were very clean (1 male shower, 1 male toilet, 1 female shower and toilet in the same room, washing up facilities)

Nothing in the immediate area, a few miles to shops in Church Stretton but this was fine with us as we just needed a base for cycling

I was invited to choose my pitch and found one with a very slight but not inconvenient slope, no problem. Other people have mentioned the wonderfully scenic setting (gorgeous!), background noise (which died down at night) and the all-in bathroom set-up so I won't repeat that. I had a basic camping loo with me, but the site was quiet so it wasn't a problem. At busy times, I might need it I think. The kitchen area is a bit tired but functional. Prices are reasonable, I paid £8 per night, so that's fair enough. I was very glad of the sensible 'put £1 in the meter and use the kettle' arrangement, as my briefcase stove threw a wobbler and refused to lock, so I relied on that kettle for drinks and hot water bottles.

There is a good-sized Co-op tucked away in Church Stretton - from the station, go up the hill to the lights and turn left.

The only thing I found inconvenient about the site were the large clumps of mown grass lying around, which matted together and stuck to everything once they became wet. I daresay that could be remedied, or perhaps I was just unlucky with my timing. All in all, a very pleasant spot, and I'd visit again.

Lovely area to visit, at the foot of Caer Caradoc which is a steep hill walk with great views.

Church Stretton 2 miles up the road a nice town with good pub/shops etc. Very hilly try the road up the Longmynd.

Friendly site owners.

Great views from pitch and right next to a field of sheep who were surprisingly quiet.

My only gripe was only one toilet which was in with the shower so could not get in in the morning if busy (in the ladies), the gents had a separate toilet/shower. Also no toilet rolls or cleaning on our stay.

But still a nice site at a reasonable price.

Just had a lovely two-night stay at Botvyle Farm. Absolutely wonderful location, right at the foot of Caer Caradoc, so it was very easy to walk from the site right to the top of the mountain. Sitting at the tent, we had stunning views of the Long Mynd and the Shropshire Plain as far as Shrewsbury.

Soft sounds of owls and sheep at night. Could hear the sounds of the A49 in the distance, but it wasn't obtrusive. We had the site to ourselves the first night, and only one other camper on the second. Facilities are basic - just two WC/showers, one for men and one for women.

The fridge provided was fairly elderly. We didn't need it, but it probably fulfils its purpose. Washing-up facilities in barn, plus use of washing machine and kettle for a small donation. Full recycling service.

The site owners are very nice people, and have a good sense of humour, which is important when running a camp site! The location is ideal for exploring Shropshire, especially walking on Caer Caradoc and the Long Mynd, or exploring Church Stretton.

We had two nights with electric hookup for £24, which I consider good value. The tent pitches which don't have hookup are more bumpy, but a few lumps and bumps wouldn't put me off this idyllic site! Take rock pegs!

Can only agree with Sceptical Camper, it's a lovely CS with great views over to the Stretton Hills/Long Mynd. Had a rather strange response to my phone call though, as we have a 26ft twin axle caravan I always ask about access and the owner didn't seem to know if it would be ok (it was, the gate is plenty wide enough with no awkward turns).

The road to the site is single track, but it's not very far from the A49. You can hear the traffic noise outside but not in the caravan. The ground is decidedly unlevel, you will need your chocks and levelling ramps.

Satellite tv is surprisingly easy to obtain, considering the large lump called Caer Caradoc to the south.

The facilities are perfectly ok, as said, ladies better than gents and the kitchen area must be an added bonus for tent campers. Cost for a caravan with ehu is £12 per night, perfectly ok.

Church Stretton doesn't seem to have much in the way of food shops, made do with a smallish Spar in the end. The local area is lovely of course, with many footpaths.

I agree with the review of ScepticCamper.

Male and female WCs each with a shower. , Laundry room, fridge freezer in the barn with a few games and books to use. Only gripe, ladies facilities include both WC and shower so if the WC is engaged so is the shower. In the Gents WC and shower have individual doors so both the loo and shower can be used.

We camped with out EHU at £4 ppn. The site has excellent views over the Church Stretton valley and the Longmynd. This part of Shropshire is beautiful aptly named the Secret hills. Pitches are gently sloping. A no frills CL site. A perfect getaway site. Also has rental accommodation for the colder months.

We will go back.

By way of preamble, I could fairly be described as a seasoned camper having pitched on every sort of campsite from the largest holiday park to the tiniest rural site. So I can draw on wide experience to say that Botvyle Farm is truly a hidden gem if you like traditional small sites. I stayed there on a Saturday night in July and had the place virtually to myself - it really is a delightful little campsite.

Botvyle Farm is located three miles northeast of Church Stretton with easy access from the A49 road - look out for the brown sign at the junction of the lane. The campsite is set on farmland under the majestic Stretton Hills and offers grass pitches, hardstandings, EHU and basic facilities. The friendly owners live in the adjacent farmhouse.

I paid just £10 for a tent pitch without EHU.

The camping field is fairly narrow and lies alongside the lane from which it is screened by a hedge. There are half-a-dozen hardstandings for campervans along one side of the field (the EHU is on this side too). There are grass pitches for about ten tents along the other side of the field.

The location is sheltered by hills from easterly and southerly winds but rather exposed to the west and north. On the site itself, the barns provide shelter and the hedge beside the lane also acts as a windbreak. Nonetheless, the west and northwest aspects are rather exposed to the wind.

The A49 main road is over half-a-mile away and the lane carries very little traffic so the site is very quiet at night.

The site slopes gently from top to bottom so none of the pitches are completely level but the ground is reasonably free of humps and bumps. The grass is good and not cropped too short and there are no muddy patches. Although the soil itself is soft there are stones beneath the surface so a few rock pegs may be needed to augment wire or plastic pegs.

The facilities are housed in a barn by the entrance to the field. The gents and ladies loos each have a single toilet cubicle, a shower and wash-hand basin (the ladies is rather plusher than the gents). A larger room houses a large washing up sink as well as electric points (useful for battery charging), fridge, freezer and an electric kettle. The facilities are fairly basic but were clean on my visit with plenty of hot water on tap.

Church Stretton has shops and takeaways but the area is most noted for its wonderful hill-walking opportunities - in fact, you can hike up to the top of Caer Caradoc straight from the campsite.

For campers who want peaceful surroundings without 'features' such as bars, entertainment, and swish facilities Botvyle Farm is an ideal site for traditional camping. I shall definitely visit again - highly recommended.

Stayed here for two nights in July for a men's weekend of cycling up the long mynd (steep!)

A fab site for some proper camping- cows in the field next door and only four or five other units on site.

We had a bumpy pitch and rolled out of bed but it didn't matter- the views were superb in this AONB in the Shropshire Hills.

Facilities are basic but there is a fridge for food amongst other things.

Great to pay for a tent too- just £8 for two nights for four blokes was great value.

'Rustic' showers, but this is a gem if you're prepared for a more basic stay in a tent

Lovely, small, scenic site set at the foot of Caer Caradoc hill with stunning views to the Long Mynd.

Single toilet / shower at present but plans to add new toilet and shower are progressing (promised for 2008 but not yet ready) - however there didn't seem to be a queue at all and the facilities always seemed clean.

Set on a quiet country lane with almost no background noise.

The site itself seems quite uneven - There were tents on the site but I'm not sure how they coped with the terrain.

The only other issue is that the access lane is very much single track. We ran into a trailer coming the other way on the way in and had to reverse for quite a way before we could pass each other.
