Just came back from our 2nd visit to Trellyn.
The facilities were very high standard and toilets and showers were always clean, with a new compost toilet added to the other end of the site.
We forgot to pack tent poles but, with Clare's advice, we managed to buy a bargain tent at Tesco Extra half an hour away.
Kevin gave us a free wood craft knife safety course and also showed us how to make whistle out of a willow branch with the craft knife. Other people were making wooden spoons. This was fantastic.
We bought 3 fresh lobsters from them. Kevin prepared them ready to be placed on grill on open fire. Delicious!
Our children were running around all day with their friends in the woods and the little hill in the site. There were football matches in the evening as well.
We visited nearby Whitesands twice where our children did bodyboarding. The beach had a surfing area and bodyboard area divided by flags and had a lifeguard. There was a cafe/shop selling hot snacks, boards and wetsuits. St David is also nearby where there are shops, places to eat and offices to book boat trips.
It was a magical week. We enjoyed ourselves so much and are looking forward to going back again.

We had our first visit to Trellyn this year after booking via their website.
We had an absolutely fabulous week and really recommend this site to anyone looking for a peaceful, woodland camping experience without the white rocks and security gates of more formal sites.
We stayed on a hard standing pitch with an electric hook up and had our own campfire and picnic bench protected by a tarp. The family sized bathrooms were ideal and washing up was often the only time we got to meet our camping neighbours because this site is so lovely and spacious.
Our five year old spent every waking hour playing with her new found pals in the grounds and we learnt lots of new crafts, cooked fresh fish on our open fire, visited a different beach every day and thoroughly enjoyed every evening listening to the peace and quiet.
We liked this site so much that we have already booked two weeks next year and we're not sure who is more excited about staying in a Tipi - us or the kids!

One of the best sites we have visited. Beautiful woodland, clean facilities and wonderful campfire under awning. The location is convenient for visiting beaches and going for walks (some breathtaking sea views). Our kids made friends with other kids and had fantastic time there. Kevin and Clare are very friendly and helpful - and their cats were very friendly as well.

Just got back from a wonderful week at trellyn. The owners, Kevin and Claire are very helpful and friendly, we missed the weekly Lobster catch from Abercastle and happened to be talking about it to them, Kevin offered to arrange for us to have one delivered by the fisherman. We said yes and at 10 o'clock that night saw him cycling off to arrange it, it arrived next day (alive in the communal fridge!), he then offered to kill it and clean it ready for cooking on the campfire.
Whole experience just as described, woodland camping with unlimited wood available for campfires. Our pitch was in the meadow along with one other camp pitch (around the corner so still secluded).
We found the facilities were always clean and tidy despite there only being two showers and 3 toilets. There is plenty of info about the site and the surrounding areas on the notice board and there is a communal fridge/freezer full of ice packs and there are pots and pans if you want to borrow for cooking on the campfire.
Abercastle and the surrounding area are absolutely beautiful and we had lots of fun on Whitesands beach.
We had a couple of encounters with the local fox, so make sure you lock your food away!
All in all we loved it and hope to go back soon!

Despite the atrocious weather on arrival, and for several days afterwards, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
The children quickly made friends and disappeared to play.
The facilities were always clean, no mean feat as we had to wade through mud to get to them!
Having a campfire was fantastic,as well as a god send for drying off wet kit, as was the local lobster cooked on it on our last night.
Kevin, claire and matthew were perfect hosts, pitching tarpaulins in heavy rain.
The local beaches were busy when the sun did come out, but it was august
Will definitely be returning next year

We have recently returned from this site. The location is very convenient for the local towns and beaches - of which Newgale beach (10 miles away) is excellent especially if you like waves. This is a small, quiet, get away from it all woodland site. The hosts (plus several cats) are very welcoming/helpful and live on-site. The weather was appalling - very wet. The largely unlit internal roads/walkways could not cope and turned mainly to mud. They were in fact already muddy when we arrived. Torches were required at night, not for security, but in order to try and avoid the numerous puddles. All weather surfaces would have made a huge difference to our and others enjoyment. We even had to be towed from our designated car parking space on one occasion as the mud was more than our car could cope with! Fortunately, the owner and his tractor were on hand. We were pitched (but not parked) on an all-weather EHU pitch (which needs a covering of finer, less sharp material) so the rain did not affect us as much as those who were pitched on the very wet grass but we were next to the mud track and got splashed by the passing traffic. The facilities were clean and tidy but far too few in number even for the 30 or so people on site. One separate toilet and 2 bathrooms (shower, sink and toilet) and only one sink for dishes immediately located outside one of the bathrooms. Queueing for showers and the sink to wash dishes became a daily necessity. If the weather had been good (and thus non-muddy), the only downside would have been the lack of facilities. The fire pits were great but the free wood (you chop your own from a plentiful supply) gave off a lot of eye stinging smoke so we bought smokeless coal from a local garage. If you can guarantee good weather and don't mind queueing and an unlit trek (which is quite a distance from the furthest away pitches, we were nearest at approaching 100 yards) to the loos etc, this is well worth considering.

Spent a week at Trellyn and have mixed feelings.
The clue is in the name so be prepared for what 'woodland' means. Don't expect paving or gravel for roads, don't expect to be on your own in the shower (spiders, bugs etc), don't expect hot water all the time, don't expect to walk into an empty shower on a site with 2 showers for potentially 30 people.
My only real issue is with the shower block and washing up facilities that would benefit from a rethink to cope with the number or people the site can support as understandably, it’s a popular place.
We didn't have the best of weather which shows up a site in a different light, but does highlight that the 2 all weather pitches are the pick of the tent pitches. Be aware that the gravel used on the tent pitches is sharp and will damage the groundsheet unless you put a sheet down first. (if you don't have one, ask Kevin or Claire they will be happy to give you one)
However, the peace and quiet were great, the hosts were very helpful and present.
Wood for the campfire was readily available as were campfire cooking grates. Take your own axe to chop the logs into smaller wood.
There is a communal fridge and freezer for everyone to use as well and organic produce is sometimes available as and when it’s ready.
The pitches are far enough apart to be secluded and private.
Fresh Lobster can be ordered on some nights if that’s your thing!
Abbercastle just 5 minutes walk away, lots of nice villages, coves and beaches.
We ended up at Whitesands beach and Newgale beach, both of which the kids loved for the bodyboards, both with cafés, toilets and big enough to not feel crowded.
Can recommend Solva as a place to visit, park up in the free car park next to the pub (Harbour Inn) and take a walk around the little inlet, great for crabbing!
Would we go back, yes, but only if the shower and washing facilities were improved.

This campsite is exactly as described - Fabulous! The toilet and showering facilities are spotless and eco and the site is beautiful. How lovely to be spaced so that you feel you are on your own in the woods.
Add freshly caught mackerel and 'honesty box' purchased organic veg from the owners garden to a griddle on your personal campfire. And you have heaven!

We loved it here! lovely small site with well defined pitches that are very private, toilet facilities very clean. No Shop (great) No Noise (even better) and only a short walk down to the village with its small beach and friendly locals. There is access to the coastal path from the village. Loads to do with just a short drive, including a fantastic cheese factory (with free tastings). Advise booking as the site only has a few pitches and always seems to be booked well in advance, infact some people book year on year!

Had the best camping experience ever at Trellyn. It is truly a gem so I'm giving nothing away other than make the effort to discover it for yourself! Kevin, Claire and Matthew make the stay enjoyable and in all honesty, nothing is too much trouble for them. Door to door freezer pack re-freezing service the best in the Northern Hemisphere! (Thank you Matthew). Facilities - spotless. Pitches - ideally placed not too close together so neighbours all unobtrusive. Fires - this makes the holiday in my book Hook ups available but we didn't use one although there was one on our pitch. We mainly spent each day at the beach ( Whitesands about 10 miles although other coves etc closer by). Had fresh lobster one evening - heaven! Requirements from campers - to care for the environment so recycling etc a must, and to leave the site as you would expect to find it.
