Spent late May bank holiday, long weekend Frid - Tues here, only 20 miles(half hour) from home. Would visit again without hesitation. Even though it was half term (school worker) it wasn't running alive with children, probably as nothing really on this site for them other than a football goal. Very well kept, clean and tidy site, very friendly owners who collect the fees from you towards the end of your stay.

You have pitches on a first come first serve basis, if you have an extension lead you can put yourself well out of the way. The middle section grassed area seemed to be very popular.

We had a walk across the fields to Boreham (access the field by crossing the road and wooden bridge over river) just keep heading towards the church and the friendly pub with good food, 'The Queens Head' is tucked just behind the church. This is also where the nearest store is a Co-Op the next turning up from the church, also a Chinese/fish take-away.

We cycled the river tow-path towards Heybridge passing through the 'Papermill lock' enjoyable but be prepared for a not so smooth ride.

On another morning we ran in the opposite direction towards Chelmsford passing under the A12, passing through 'Blackwater' lock where they do boat trips, a good run and less busy with people to get in the way :)

We really enjoyed our stay and the weather wasn't too bad, at £12 a night it's one we may re-visit.

Spent a lovely easter weekend at this site, it was very clean and tidy in a very nice setting, if you don't get on one of the hard standing pitches and park on the grass it is fairly flat with plenty of room, if you have a long power cable you can tuck yourself away with some great views, there are loads of public footpaths to choose from so you can get right into the countryside, we only live eight miles away and often walk along the canal with our dogs so thought we new the area well but walking the paths instead of just driving the roads everywhere looks so different, we will be back to this very relaxing site to enjoy all that this area has to offer.

We came upon this site by chance, very basic, fine for us as we have all we need in the Motorhome, location was good to the river and not far from London it seems a long way from the smoke, however on our second visit we noticed it to be a little clicky, and also found there seems to be a lot of the same Caravans with a full set up dogs howling etc, and after a little investigation seem to be full of permanent folk!, same nice spot but to many travellers

We decided to book up too late for the May day bank holiday and so couldn't get a pitch on any of our first choice sites (or second, or third !) and so after a lot of ringing around finally got a pitch at Mill House.

The site is licenced for 20 units but we counted over double that amount (Bank holidays eh!) but it still did not feel cramped and there were no issues at all over the weekend with electric, dispite some very large units on site.

There are no amenities, which means no tents, and so the rowdy teenager flock were not present (much the same as Cls). Peace is a by-word at Mill House !

The pitch we were on was fairly level, well drained, grass with a small stream running at the back of us. There are some hardstandings for those who want them. We had lovely views over fields towards Danbry.

Across the road from the site is Mill house lock and mill pool and the Chelmer navigational canal. A walk of about half a mile across fields will take you to Boreham village. Try The Queens Head PH for good basic food and a decent pint.

The Tea rooms at Paper Mill lock, do a very good value for money ploughmans and their cakes are a bit yummy too !

We found this site very laid back, clean, neat and nicely kept. The owners are very plesant and chatty. In fact, as its only 3/4 of an hour away we are now wondering why weve not been here before !

Would we recommend this site to others, or return ourselves ? Yes and Yes !

We are very pleased to have found Mill House, it is a clean friendly site with extremely welcoming and helpful owners. The views are fantastic and there are many wonderful walks, go to Paper Mill Lock, wonderful cream teas! A 15/20 min walk takes you to the bus stop/local co-op and easy access to chelm/Colchester, or the park and ride, 5 min. This is our first but certainly not our last visit. Thank you y and p.

This was our 1st trip in our caravan, and was very enjoyable! The site was lovely - well maintained and peaceful. The proximity to Paper Mill Lock was fantastic, we had a lovely walk there and back - and sampled some lovely cake in the tea rooms there. The addition of toilets and showers would be very welcome though. The owners were really friendly, and the relaxed atmosphere nice. This would be a great site to stay at if you wanted peace and quiet, but close proximity to abtown centre, as Chelmsford is only about a 10 minute drive away. All in all a great stay!

This site is well situated if you want to visit places in Essex and London. It's just a couple of miles from the A12 and next to the tow path on the River Chelmer that leads into the centre of Chelmsford.

Despite so close to the A12 and Chelmsford it does feel like your in the middle of the country with great walks along the tow path.

There is a large field opposite which is very popular with dog walkers.

It's a popular clean and quiet site with friendly and helpful owners.

 A great little site.

We stayed for a weekend. Very pretty location with pleasant views. The owner polite and relaxed. It is very family orientated with relatives arriving for BBQ's. Not noisy or intrusive at all.

There are no toilet or shower facilities, but a great time to test the van's facilities.

Had a pitch at the far end of the site, long electricity lead was useful here.

Can become very full over Bank Holiday weekends, however there is still a feeling of space.

Good value for money.

Will return

My wife and I have just returned from our Easter at the Mill House site.

We had a great time - pitched on the grass at the back of the site, and this gave our 3 year old grandson plenty of room to run around. This was our second visit to this site and although it is only half an hour from where we live, it has become one of my favourites. The owners are very friendly and the views are outstanding.

No toilet block - but that is why we have a van with all mod cons, is it not?

On the Sunday we had a few of our family members come and visit for a B-B-Q, we had a great time and everyone commented on what a great place it is.

We will be back - very soon!

Very neat little site. Not far from main road, but felt quite secluded. If you can manage without toilet and shower facilities then this site is ideal. All the pitches are level some hardstanding.

Lovely walks along the river, Paper Mill lock took us about 40 mins at an easy pace. You can get a cuppa and a cake before walking back. This suited us for our first trip out. Site fees very reasonable, we will come here again for a quiet relaxing weekend. Looked like a great spot if you are in to fishing.
