We stayed for 2 nights and sadly it was very wet and rainy during our stay. However, it was very quiet and laid back and whilst there were no special provision for children, our girls (6 and 4) really enjoyed themselves.

The price is amazing - only £8 per night which more than makes up for the 'adequate' facilities. The showers were free which was good and I found them clean and well maintained.

The site was a bit overgrown with long grass but this didn't seem to present a particular problem.

The owner has a field next door where he keeps ducks, chickens etc. And was happy for us to take the girls round to explore.

The owner was definitely 'unobtrusive' - in fact we had a hard job finding him to pay!

We visited this site for three nights over the last May bank holiday. It's in a lovely quiet location off a lane, and about a mile from the village of Catfield and the main road. We only ended up there because all the other sites in the area were full, so it was a happy accident.

It's a very relaxed site; we just turned up and pitched where we wanted and the owner arrived later to chat and take our money. The small field the campsite is in is not very scenic, but quite adequate for what we wanted. There were more than the 5 caravans and 10 tents specified on the busiest night, but it didn't feel crowded at all. A large group of about 5 families with lots of kids arrived on the Sunday and had a jolly around a fire basket until about 11pm, but they were a lovely group, very polite, and everything went quiet very quickly when they went to bed.

In terms of facilities, they are pretty basic - an old portacabin toilet/shower block, with two unisex loos and showers, and they got dirty and loo-roll-free pretty quickly especially with all the kids. However, they are free, and the water was hot at the specified times.

The grass was very long and the pitches slightly sloping, but all in all the site is great value for money - it was £8 per night all in on a bank holiday in for a large 6 berth tent with canopy, two large adults and two large children (husband and kids are all 6ft plus!) and two dogs.

We didn't visit the White Hart in Catfield, but the pub in Crowhurst was great - good, basic pub grub, welcomes dogs, lovely location, a real old fashioned village local not a posh gastro-pub. Good shop in Catfield. Great dog walk in a wood just outside Catfield (have to drive though).

In summary:

Things I liked

- Very quiet location

- Small site

- Relaxed and informal

- Friendly, unintrusive owner

- The price!

Things I liked less:

- Long grass

- Limited, slightly grubby, unisex toilet facilities

- No off-lead dog walking close to site

Overall a great value site providing the basics in a quiet, relaxed environment.
