We came here a cheap alternative to our usual campsite in the same area and were quite impressed. It is only a small site but there was only one more tent when we arrived and a couple more over the weekend but there was still plenty of room between everyone. The owner was friendly and didn't interfere, the only small problem was the toilets, although not far away, were up quite a steepish hill, which got a bit annoying. The toilets in themselves where clean (2 mens and 2 ladies) and the showers were quite decent and clean too (1 mens 1 ladies). There were no washing up facilities either so make sure you take ur fairy liquid! haha. Cost us £4 pppn and would definitely return.

We used this as a base to tour the area by motorbike (having brought my car with camping gear and boyfriend with Harley). It was bank holiday weekend so the bottom field was full, the owners put us in the top field which only had 7 other tents, all well away from each other for privacy and with the advantage of the loo and shower a few yards away.
The queues for showers were quite lengthy with campers hiking up the steep hill from the bottom field every morning, however we just waited for a queue gap then took our turn. Yes it's basic basic basic but peaceful with stunning open surroundings. As a base to sleep, shower and cook breakfast it was a really cheap way of having a holiday. On the sunday most of the other campers left. On monday we returned from a long day out to discover a family with 2 kids and a dog camped next to us - with guy ropes touching! They had a whole field to choose from but invaded our privacy which was a dampner on our final couple of days. The only downside for me was the noise from the waterfal, and a washing up sink would have been useful.
There's nothing here to do but it's an ideal site for walkers and anyone who's prepared to get back to basics for a cheap holiday base. If I was going to camp in the area again I would definitely go back there.

We visited on a weekend at the end of march. Only one other tent so very quiet. We camped in the bottom field which was the only option at the time. The weather was good but the field was still quite muddy even though the farmer had just spiked it to improve drainage - very clayey soil though so I wouldn't want to visit during or after rain, maybe the top field is better.
We were charged £6 per night for the two of us, which although cheap was quite enough given that the shower wasn't working and the only other facility at the time was a single unlit loo and a tap. At the time a new toilet / shower unit was being installed so I'm guessing things will have improved on this front.
In terms of location the bottom field is nice enough with a large stream running along the site, despite what other reviews said we didn't find this too noisy, although given some typical North Wales weather this might change! Although there were no real views from the lower field the setting was peaceful, wooded and pleasant. You did have to take a short steep walk up to the loos but this really wasn't the hardship some other reviewers have bemoaned - although yes if you absolutely had to go up to the main loos in the middle of the night it might be a bit of a pain.
The site is an ideal location for the north of Cadair Idris, Dolgellau and Barmouth. If you're after food and an evening drink, the George III hotel, 10 minutes drive towards Dolgellau served better than average bar food with a varied high quality menu for not considerably more than standard pub grub.
I'd go back as long as it wasn't wet!

Stayed here the week before Easter and found it to be fairly quiet although the bottom field did fill up and the top field was used by Easter weekend.
Long winding hilly single track road to the site. Can be awkward if meeting other vehicles.
The bottom field is nice being near to the river but gets a bit muddy after rain. Cars churned up the access area quite considerably.
Being near the river is nice but the view is restricted. The top field gets nice views of the hills and also gets the sun longer in the evenings. Next time we'll go for the top field.
You can light bonfires if you want to. The only thing is that some campers were hacking down trees in the forest, they even had their own axes and saws. One guy was chopping up wood with an industrial endeavour most of the day. Could go back in 10 years and find most of the trees have disappeared.
Idyllic spot and nice and quite (depending on other campers). New toilets and showers have just been installed. Very basic but that adds to the atmosphere. Laid back owner, nice and pleasant. Good access to local walks and Cadair Idris. Will go back any time.

I've camped at this site twice now,out of season on both occasions when we had the place to ourselves. It's a gem of a site, basic, no frills field next to a river. Campfires are allowed and firewood can be purchased from the owner (a little way up the hill, which is also where you have to head for the toilet and shower.) The wood that we bought was'nt brilliant (trunks of Christmas trees past) but there was no pressure to only burn wood purchased from the site. A proviso that is sadly used like a stealth tax at some other sites. The fee was small, we were made welcome, but other than that we were left to get on with our camp in peace.
What I loved about this site was its location and its simplicity. It was ideally placed for our intended walks up to nearby Cadair Idris and further afield to Arenig Fawr.
I'll definitely be going again, but out of season.

Arriving August bank holiday Saturday with no prior booking we discovered that the main field was full so we were located in the top field, near the loo and shower. The field contained only 5 other tents so we chose a convenient and spacious spot, in sight of the shower and loo, with gorgeous hill views and no near neighbours. After a day out on on our motorbike (welcomed, no prob) we returned to discover a family plus dog pitched 2 feet away! - a whole field and they were virtually on top of us, which kind of ruined it a bit for us.
The loo and shower are basic, a bit cobwebby but not bad, and plenty of free hot water although, being bank holiday, there were a few queues. However, at £5 a night for 2 adults, car, motorbike and tent we can't complain. This is a really peaceful, basic, get away from it all site with absolutely nothing to do - which is what we wanted. Lovely walks from the site, through woods, mountains and to the coast. On the sunday everybody else left the field, leaving only us and the sheep - who the owners allowed back in, they added to the ambiance and we had no objections. You need a car unless on a walking holiday, and the drive up the mountainside to reach the site is not for the fainthearted. A lovely, back to basics site that we would use again if the top field was open - not sure we would like to be crammed into the main field with its hike up to the loo!

Lovely and very basic campsite by a river in the middle of nowhere, down a long and winding lane. There is a field right next to the river, which, judging from previous reviews is where most people tend to stay. We stayed in the upper field, however, as the river field had some kind of private booking/party going on (we got to see their party fireworks, though, which were impressive!) I think they had music playing but it didn't disturb us.
N.B. Staying in the upper field means you're closer to the loos and don't have to trek up the hill to get to them, which is a bonus if it's raining which lets face it, it often is.
1 shower (take flip flops!) and 2 loos; hardly luxurious but no complaints from us. Nice friendly pub by the bridge in the village down the road (the George III). About 15 minutes drive to Barmouth, half an hour to Harlech.
All in all; gorgeous views, peace and quiet, great value for money and the added bonus of being allowed a campfire! We brought our own wood but I understand it's available to buy. We would return without a doubt.

This is a little piece of paradise. It is a small campsite in a very pretty location, by a river in some woodland. It really is stunning. It is a basic site. The two toilets and one shower are quite a trek up the hill. Some people even used their car to get up there but so long as you are fit, it shouldn't put you off. The shower as hot and free but take your own toilet roll! We stayed for a week and at the weekend it was practically full (around 9 large tents) and during the week there was usually only two other tents and some passing D.Of E. groups who arrived early evening and left early in the morning. You would not find this campsite unless you were looking for it, which was part of its appeal. Campfires are allowed and bags of wood are available for sale at £2.50 per bag from the cottage. There is plenty of wood to be collected nearby, however. The campsite charges £2.50 per person and £1 for children under 10 and dogs, per night.
There are many beautiful walks beginning from the campsite or nearby and the youth hostel next door sells O.S. Maps and other essential items if you forgot anything. The river is noisy but very soothing. None of us were kept awake by it. We did have an animal steal our bread and sausages, but that was our fault for leaving them out where they could get them! I would highly recommend this site and will most certainly be returning.

The previous reviews some up this site exactly, even down to the wildlife, our well rapped up rubbish was attacked by a stout. The hill is not that bad, and the shower is hot and free (part of your £2.50 per person per night. The river is noisely but that's the only noise, plenty of fallen dead wood for a small fire. If you are quiet and want a basic site, this is for you

All I have to say is you should never have announced this little gem! We have been going here for years and have not told a soul for fear of it becoming to popular. If you enjoy wild camping campfires and the odd passing group of Duke of edinburgh award seekers, and a group of friendly midges, as it is by a running mountain stream(which is very noisy!) below the shadow of Cader Idris, which is very popular with walkers and climbers etc. You have to be a walker or a climber to get to the toilets at the top of the hill. 2 toilets, 1 shower all free, and with magnificent views of Cader whilst on the loo! There is only one tap for filling with water and that is at the top of the same very big hill. There is also a footpath running through the site with access for walkers climbing Cader, the only issue there is that they have not been taught how to close 5 bar metal gates quietly and they like to head of very early in the morning and arrive back late at night. Keep an eye out for the rougue squirrells who eat your cereals and the wheelie bins! (they stop at nothing). The site allows campfires as long as you do not cut down any trees! Have I done enough to convince everybody not to go yet, so our hearts don`t skip a beat when we arrive in the hope that we are the only ones there(as most of the time we are)please, please, don`t go!
