We have just had 8 days at Wincanton CC Site.
We found it very good, and up to the usual CC standard, with clean heated facilities, although there are only two showers for the men and two for the ladies there was never a queue, the plots have plenty of room with easy access for large outfits, and the wardens were friendly and helpful. The is also a golf course attached to the site.
The area has lots of attractive (ironstone) villages and National Trust properties, also Yeovilton Royal Naval Air Museum and Haynes Motor Museum at Sparkford are close by and well worth a visit. Weymouth is 35 miles away and in easy reach for a day trip.
We would certainly go again.

We have just returned from an eleven night stay at the Wincanton Racecourse site with somewhat mixed feelings about our holiday. Pitches are spacious and well well maintained. Excellent off site dog walk Facilities are spotless as you would expect from a Caravan Club Site. But. (there`s got to be a "but") The wardens only work a five hour day. Unfortunately the two wardens work the same five hours, finishing their morning shift at lunchtime and not resurfacing until 16.30. Most units arrived during their absence and there was the obvious confusion as to where they could pitch and location of facilities. We understood that there were no hardstanding pitches on this site. Not so ! We pitched on No. 52. Nice quiet corner. Problem came when we set up and tried to peg down the awning. Rock pegs went in two inches into the hardcore, then hit a solid concrete slab. The weather then was fine so we were not too worried, couple of days later came the wind. Luckily I had a box of Budweiser and a couple of water carriers to hold down the awning skirt. I mentioned the problems to the warden, "Yes ,there`s concrete on pitch 52 & 53 and it`s always windy up here". Would have been appreciated if this information was available on our arrival at 12 30 pm when both wardens had gone shopping. Can`t blame the wardens for the weather. BUT.

Stayed here for 3 nights, so we could take the kids to Longleat(30 to 45 mins away). A brilliant campsite, lots of room - the onsite wardens are very helpful. The facilities are spotless and a credit to the wardens Walked the racecourse, which the kids enjoyed, Wincanton town not far, can be walked, good facilities and leisure centre.
