Just spent 3 days on this site and it is ideal for the kids. It is about a mile from the road so children are pretty safe from traffic. It is 3 miles from middleton in teesdale. There is a nice walk to low and high force at the bottom of the site but there are loads of stiles to get over so not ideal for older people.
I will be going back shortly as the kids loved it but will only stop the 2 nights as you run out of things to do.
Prices are £3 per head including children.

Stayed at this particular site under recommendation from my sister and nephews who have stayed here a few times in the past. Went with my two nephews and a friend a while back and really enjoyed it so decided to get a group of seven together to go in June 2009.
All I can say is if you want no frills camping then this is the place for you. Lovely scenery and lovely walks to be had. There is a river runs along the bottom of the campsite and its so so quiet.
Some people have said on here that you share the field with sheep but as of yet the field has been sheep free. Cold water from a field tap and toilets next to the camping barn is all that is there but like I say no frills.
I would suggest taking toilet rolls as the toilets have none and also take rope to make a swing for the kids from the tree unless the one we made is still there.
We going again June 2011 but so far only the four of us but still loads of fun to be had. The site owner is very friendly and welcoming.

My friends and I have visited this site twice, and we intend to become regular visitors, it is a lovely quiet site meaning you can be as loud as you like without disturbing others. The sheep tend to share the field with you, this is unproblematic though. You can't stay for too long here as there is no shower facilities and only cold water! it is about a 3 mile walk into town and there is a lovely river at the bottom of the site. The local pub The Strathmore Arms is just around the corner and is very pleasant. Cider Blacks and cards :) a fabulous place to be with your besties x x

We visited this site as a family earlier in the year and also in September 19 people in total
On both occasions we had a lovely stay
The site is very basic and the path leading to the camp ground is rough and bumpy, cold water only in the toilets and no shower block
How ever we had quite a few children in our party and the site is ideal it is away from the roads and the children loved the freedom playing football ect
We will go again

Stayed here for one night in a large group and was pleased with this basic and cheap campsite. We used the camping field, which was pretty empty, as well as one of the camping barns. The facilities are very basic, but fine for a short stay. The local area is lovely, with High and Low Force within walking distance from the site and Middleton-in-Teesdale just a few miles away. There is a pub just along from the site, The Strathmore Arms, which serves good food and ales.

We visited this camp site at the bank holiday weekend. We were first time campers and this site was the only available one for the bank holiday weekend. The site is set away from the main road so it would be good to go if you have children. The field is a pretty good size and you don't feel as if your on top of each other. There were three toilets with cold running water, the following morning the toilets were very grotty, it wasn't too bad for us as we were only here for one night. We went to the local pub The Strathmore Arms, it was small but then again it was full of bikers. It has a pool table and drinks are pretty cheap. There are picnic benches outside for sunnier weather. It was a typical country pub with a log fire-very cosy. It only cost ten pounds for 4 adults so is good value for money however amenities are not great. There's not much in the way of shops either we went to Banard Castle for supplies. Overall a basic site ok for one night.

I visited this site with my wife and two kids (5 & 6). From the main road there's a two or three mile drive through some lovely countryside up a lane to Holwick. When you reach the farm the first thing you see is a "farmhouse kitchen" style tearoom. We ate one tea and one breakfast there, the range of items on the menu was small but everything we had was well cooked, using good ingredients (their own meat for example). The family were very friendly and pleasant, the prices were good and everything was very clean. Once you've checked in at the farmhouse there's a drive over a stone chipping covered farm track for about another mile past a holiday cottage and into a field next to a camping barn. When we arrived we were the only ones and wondered if we'd come to the right place as the field was full of sheep. There were only a small number of toilets, with cold water and no other facilities. What was there was clean and in good condition (bring your own toilet paper though!) There was plenty of space for the kids to run about and a tree to climb, being so far from the road and so quiet we were not concerned about the kids getting in the way of cars etc. More people came later in the day but there was still plenty of room. I don't know how many people they have there when it's busy but I could imagine the facilities being quite strained if the field was full. There's a pub near the main entrance to the farm, we investigated briefly but they weren't serving food at the time and it was very smokey, not sure if I'd want to take the kids there even when they are serving food. This site would be excellent for walkers as it's close to the pennine way and there are a number of walks which can easily be reached from the site without taking the car.
