This site was our worst nightmare! We chose the site for a few days break on our way home from further south in France for two reasons. Firstly it was a member of the 'Les Castels' chain of sites which we use regularly and which are usually extremely good. Secondly, the site is situated very near to Mont St Michel which my OH has wanted to visit for ages. We did not really read much about the site before we booked which was probably daft of us but we have learned our lesson. The site itself is huge with over 800 pitches. If each pitch has your average 2.4 children this makes a grand total of 1920 kids running around the place (mostly unsupervised as far as we could see) Large groups of teenagers congregated together in various areas and made a lot of noise. They were clearly having a good time but I wished they could do it a wee bit more quietly. I am far from a spoil sport and normally don't mind a bit of noise, especially when the kids are having a good time but this was really excessive. The on site disco went on until 3am every morning and although you could not hear the music as the disco was well soundproofed, you could certainly hear the loud (drunk) people heading back to their caravans at 3am. We were woken every morning at 3am by people coming out of the disco. The site had a lot of activities available. The pools were large and very good with a range of different pools some covered and some not, some for straight swimming and some with slides etc for having fun on. There were canoes and pedalos for hire along with pony trekking, tennis, golf, cricket and a large all weather sports pitch which the boys used mainly for soccer. There was also a high wire advanture course up in the tree tops for kids and adults. However, we felt that the activities were very expensive and if you stayed here for a few weeks with a couple of kids you could spend a LOT of money on activities. There was a good range of restaurants and bars ranging from a fast food snack bar to a fancy restaurant. The pitches themselves were not the largest but they were adequately sized. The site seemed well drained because it rained a lot while we were there but the pitch, although wet, never became boggy. The toilet facilities were adequate but the showers seemed to run out of hot water quite quickly in the mornings and I ended up having a rather cool shower! The shop was very well stocked and seemed reasonably priced. Everyone on site seemed to speak English. Actually English was the language of choice on site and even in the bars and restaurants no one ever addressed you in French, it was English the whole way. This took away the feel of being in a foreign country and actually, it would be possible to stay here for a fortnights holiday and never realise you were in France which detracts from the fun of camping in France in my opinion. If you are after a very lively camp site with loads of facilities and entertainment and lots of children and teenagers to be company for your own then this site would be perfect for you. However, if like us you prefer a real taste of France and value your peace and quiet then like us, you will find this site your worst nightmare!

We stayed here on our way back from the South of France for 2 days. We had a thoroughly good time, the swimming pools are fantastic and the kids had a whale of a time. The bars were good and we enjoyed having cocktails poured by a Harry Potter lookalike, although he didn't seem to know who Harry Potter was! As a stopover, this site is excellent with it being only 20 mins from the St Malo ferry. We didn't visit any local attractions as this was a two day rest period before catching a ferry back to England. The facilities at the park were excellent and although the site had a nice hustle

We have stayed at this site on 3 occasions - it is very impressive. Although it is a large site used by the tour operators, its is extremely pretty and is in a lovely setting. The lakes, chateau and gold course are picturesque, and the facilities on site such as the swimming pool and bar and restaurant area are very good. From the site, you can walk to a nearby village where there is a bar.

For our first foray into France we chose this site as it is very close to St. Malo & the ferry and I was a little anxious about driving. Our first day was glorious. The second day when we were joined by some friends was horrendous & we suffered torrential rain for 4 days. The run-off travelled in rivulets that went through our tents. (Which is why we always go for mobile homes now - just in case.) The weather then brightened up and we enjoyed the rest of our fortnight.
The site. Set in the grounds of the Chateau, this is a large site with a large number of statics. The camping areas are OK. Our pitch was in a group of 8 rather than individual hedged pitches as we have seen elsewhere. We were towards the pine forest at the rear left of the site, up the slope. Some pitches lower down were badly waterlogged. Far enough away from the bar to avoid the worst of the noise.
There are several toilet blocks which were kept clean in difficult circumstances (muddy footprints!) and there was always hot water.
Shop Spar. Not too expensive and good range of food & drink. Hot pastry & bread in the morning.
Bar / restaurants. Bar OK. Fast food and posh restaurant, not used. I would imagine that these are really busy in high season.
Pools Main pool complex very good if a little cold. There are a further 2 pools near the posh restaurant which are small but were heated!
Activities Golf, pedaloes, zip lines, cycle hire.
Access Automatic barrier opened with a wrist fob, which can also be "charged" with cash which you can spend on the site - nice idea.
Nearby attractions St-Malo - beach, walled city, aquarium Dol de Bretagne - Cathedral, Market, Mont Dol. Rennes Dinan Dinard Mont St Michel (Fantastic)
Supermarkets SuperU at Dol De Bretagne - 5 mins by car. Others in St Malo
Favourite beach Plage du Guesclin - easy access and parking off the D201 to the North East of St Malo. No facilities but excellent clean beach & rock pools.
This was a gentle introduction to French holidays. Bad weather at start nearly put paid to it. We have ventured further since.

We visited this site as a Eurosite customer several years ago. We decided to go again but this time we took our own outfit. This is an excellent site, a member of The Castels chain with an outstanding amount of amenities. You really do not have to leave this site if you don't want to but that would rather spoil your visit to France if you didn't take in the beautiful surrounding area!
This is an extremely busy site with allsorts going off. Entertainment varies from the balcony/pool side bar to the full all singing dancing Rep night on stage. Facilities include... 18 hole golf club (handicap card required). 5 hole pitch and putt, Driving range. Several Fishing lakes ( most free, some to pay-trout fishing available). Equestrian services range from pony rides, hacking out to jumping and dressage tuition.Tennis courts, canoes, pedaloes, table tennis, boules. All weather football pitch, cricket pitch.
An adventure park (height restriction) including zip wires and walking along wires 40 foot up in the trees!!...not for the faint-hearted, I tried this and can honestly say I didn't enjoy one moment of it!! It was horrendous...but a good laugh and my teenage kids loved it as did some of the younger ones!! Large Aqua pool with numerous waterslides, kiddies pool etc then elsewhere on the site, near the chateau were 3 smaller pools that were heated - good if you just wanted to go for a quiet swim.
Then there is restaurant, takeaway, pizzeria etc, games room. Shop on site, fresh bread and croissants every morning, reasonably priced selling a wide variety including a good and reasonable priced selection of wines and beers.
Toilets etc were the usual standard of cleanliness, cleaned 2-3 times a day. The only exception to this was the ones around the main entertainment area where a lot of the kids tended to hang around. Rather untidy and shabby but this could not be blamed on staff but on the people that were using them!
We were pitched near to one of the lakes, lovely pitch with views overlooking the lake and the cricket pitch with the golf course to one side and the chateau to the other. Nice and quiet on an evening as we were well away from the main area (though only 5 mins walk). There are a large amount of the big companies on here and they take up the majority of the site. 'Les Ormes' itself also hire out their own holiday homes and have a hotel at the entrance to the site. The staff are helpful and friendly, it is a very organised and well run site with its own entertainment team.
The pitches are set a fair way back from the hustle and bustle of the main area and so by 11.30pm a 'quiet-time' is observed around the camping areas. Security is predominant and they do a good job maintaining the quiet time. This is an excellent site with something for everyone especially families with kids that want plenty to do.
The surrounding area is well worth sightseeing. St Malo is close by as is Dinard. Le Mont St Michel is about 20 mins drive away. There are a selection of beaches within easy reach and some lovely coastal villages tucked away and just waiting to be found!
Your only disappointment here will be finding the time to do everything and then finding out you forgot to do that 'nothing' thing that comes with France!!
