Just got back from a wonderful 2 nights at Outer Bounds. The campsite only has 8 pitches each in its own secluded area surrounded by trees and wild plants.

If you want a peaceful back to nature camp site then this is for you. There is a small toilet/shower block which is very clean and best of all is FREE. There is a small freezer for you to keep iceblocks should you need it and even a place to charge mobiles is you need access to the wider world.

The owner has very thoughtfully erected a waterproof canopy over the long communal bench which was a god send on our second night when the rain turned heavy. We sat at the table with our camping stove, cooked and chatted whilst listening to the rain.

There are 2 swings and a slide on site along with a box of assorted bats/balls/toy cars to keep younger ones happy, there were only 2 children staying while we were there and I confess there probably are sites better suited to the needs of more energetic youngsters, it depends on how happy the children in question are at back to basics, good clean fun that involves a little self imagination.

We drove into New Quay during the day which took just over 30 mins, closer to home there is a smaller village with a few shops and a pub ( around a 10 min drive).

For us as a couple I can't praise this campsite or its owners enough, it was perfect for the kind of 'get away from it all' break we were looking for. Peter obviously works very hard to make this campsite look as natural as possible whilst maintaining lovely flat pitches and meandering walkways, it looks as though you've stumbled upon a secluded glade in a wild flower woodland where there just happens to be a ready made fire pit and wood for sale (just £2 a bag).

If you go camping for the Saturday night campsite disco and the games arcade then this is not the place for you, but if you like that wild camping feel with just a touch of convenience then, like us, I'm sure you will love this place!

My wife and I stayed over two weeks in the summer at outer bounds camping and really enjoyed the experience. The camp site is private and peaceful and the site is secluded and protected from winds by the shrubs that surround each pitch. There is one rarely used road that accesses the site, even those pitched nearer to this side of the campsite are unlikely to be disturbed.

There are two showers and toilets and a sink/ shaving area, which for this size of site is fine. There are electric points for lower pitches and every pitch has it's own area for making a fire/ barbecue that makes this site more of a rarity nowadays. Wood and kindling are sold on site. The owner is very kind and hospitable. We felt very welcome and His ginger kitten was a big hit with kids and adults alike.

The nearest shop is roughly a mile away and a little further on is a petrol station with a fair sized supermarket and a cafe attached that serves breakfasts. About a mile further is the llanrhystud beach and although a little cold we swam in the water and enjoyed it. The beach quite empty when we went and we noticed swallows nesting in the sandbanks at the end, which was unexpected. In conclusion we had a great holiday and can't recommend the place highly enough.

Such a lovely, peaceful, green place and looking forward to going back there again. You really feel like you are getting back to nature as all you can hear are animals - no traffic noise which is bliss. If you want peace and quiet and to escape from every day life I recommend here.

A short drive and you are in the near-by village and within 10 miles you are at bigger towns where you can pick up supplies, see the sea and sample the local restaurants.

The toilets and showers are adequate and very clean. Maybe take a handtowel as there is no hand dryer but there is a washing machine and a plug to charge mobile phones with.

You can buy logs on site for a camp fire, there is an outdoors sink for cleaning your pots and pans and also areas to sit away from your tent.

If you want back to basics, beautiful and peaceful surroundings then this is the place. The owner is very friendly too.

What a fantastic time we have just spent at Outer Bounds - all 18 of us. Great location to get to the coast.

Don't be misled by the name - it's not an adventure holiday - more a relaxing, do nothing and sit by your tent, drink wine and read your book type of holiday.

Beautiful setting, peaceful pitches and quirky touches. Loved the camp fire and eating area. We even managed to fit a trio trailer tent on the stone circle pitch!

Peter is very relaxed and welcoming. Friendly and unobtrusive. Facilities are basic but very clean.

We don't often go back to the same site as we like to see different areas of our beautiful country but we would make an exception for this one!

We went on a short camping trip and booked into this campsite. Peter, the owner was there to meet us when we got there and was very friendly.

The site was lovely, only small about 8 pitches, but each pitch is very private, you are not really overlooked by any of the other pitches therefore not tripping over anyone's guy ropes.

Each pitch is surrounded on three sides by flora and fauna. There are fire pits with each pitch and kindling & logs available at a reasonable price.

Showers/Toilets all very clean. Altogether a lovely place to stay and quite central for Aberyswyth and Aberaeron.

Definitely the best campsite in Wales!

My wife and I have just returned after a camping tour of Wales and this little place was by far the best place we've stayed.

Pete the owner was very friendly and helpful, on our arrival he gave us a tour and even came back out later in the rain with a bag of dry kindling for us.

The pitches are on flat ground, spread out well and the facilities are more that adequate for a site of this small size. This is the closest you'll get to camping in the wild but still have a toilet and shower.

There is a communal fire pit, BBQ and outdoor dining area which looks ideal for a group get together, we'll definitely be returning as soon as possible and we'll be bringing friends and family in tow.

The surrounding area is beautiful and peaceful with shops and access to Cardigan bay only a short drive away. If you're looking for a quiet beach try Cai Bach between New Quay and Aberaron.

WOW, This site was perfect, the pitches were flat, private and in a beautiful setting.

The shower and toilet facilities were good.

Peter was very helpful and I would totally recommend this site. Upon arriving at this site, we were greeted by the friendly owner, who gave us a personal tour of the site and the facilities. We were taken back by the sheer tranquillity of the place. The site is split into a number of small individual pitches, each one in its own secluded spot, surrounded by beautiful wild flowers and trees. The fact that you can have Camp fires is great, nothing like a baked tattie, sitting round the fire :)

Location was ideal for touring around this lovely area.

Looking forward to 2010

We arrived at the beginning of the school hols, but hey - peace and quiet!(we were the only ones there) OK, so it takes a little bit of finding but the instructions on the website are good - remember to turn right at the sign for the camp site.It is just what it says - a rural retreat. Peter welcomed us and showed us around, the showers and toilets are spotless and there is also a washing machine if you require it. We SO enjoyed sitting reading quietly in the setting sunshine each evening after a day of exploring. Unfortunately the hills do draw the rain clouds, but it's so close to the coast where we managed to escape the rain - especially Aberaeron a few miles south. The 'Harbour Master' is a great place to eat at this lovely little town. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did.But don't tell everyone, we want it kept like this.

We've just returned from this lovely site which is both tranquil and scenic. The owner, Peter, is a very friendly guy who really has the interests of his campers at heart and couldn't have been more helpful.
The site only has six pitches and is ideal for anyone who likes their privacy, as different plants and shrubs screen off each pitch from its neighbour. We actually had the site to ourselves for our stay so can't really say what it would have been like to share the showers but Peter has the hot water on morning and evening, so I suppose you could choose your times.
We didn't have the best of weeks weather-wise and we are not hardened campers, but nevertheless we had a great time visiting the area which is beautiful and unspoilt, although you would need to be prepared to drive as it is fairly remote. That's probably the only downside, provided you like it quiet, is that you can't walk to anything (like a pub!)as the nearest is 4 miles and it's all uphill coming back!
All in all a great place and we'd love to go back some day.

We stayed here recently for 1 night and have to say it is one of the best sites we have ever stayed at. This is a relatively small and peaceful site, set in a very secluded location, yet only 2 minutes from the main coastal road to Aberystwyth with local shop only 5 minutes away.
The toilets, showers and wash room facilities are the best we have ever seen anywhere! Very clean and modern! There is also a communal BBQ area with BBQs, picnic benches and children's play area. It is apparent from everywhere you look that this site is the owners pride and joy, with everything being perfectly tended to, and a site to be proud of!

Would definitely recommend this site to anyone, especially for a peaceful quiet break in such beautiful unspoilt surroundings.

The only negative aspect of our stay was having to leave!

An Eden in the heart of Wales!
