We stayed here for 4 weeks this summer and really can't recommend it enough, plan a was to take the caravan, plan b the camper (vw) but we actually ended up in one of the 3 gites, it was clean and had everything we wanted, the grounds were great, having a table tennis table, a tennis court, swings. Pool and both a lake and river frontage with a dingy, kayak and pedalo to keep both big and little kids happy !. I'm not a 'real' fisherman but even I managed to catch a few from the lake (and a couple from the river too !)
The local village is walkable or about 3 mins in the car or under 10 by bike and has a bread shop (really good), 2 general stores and a good bar/cafe to sit outside and watch the world go by, everything was great until our 20 year old camper broke down. The owner of the site turned up with tools and when it became obvious that I'd need some bits, drove me round to his mates house to find out where the local breakers were and then spent nearly the whole day taking me from one breakers yard to the next (via some car spares shops) I think the words customer service don't really come close :)
Basically if the 2 girls (one's 8 and ones err, well older !) are happy so am I, and they both loved it, if you like small and friendly as oppose to big and corporate then I can't really see how you could get much better.

Having stayed for 4 nights in 2010 on a whistle stop tour around France before moving onto Claremont Ferrand and the Alps we decided to spend 11 nights here this year. What a fantastic site this is, with 7 children in total split over 2 families there is acres of room for the tents, leisure shelter and cars and the usual boys sports of rugby, football, the whole site playing cricket and still enough time for rowing the boat and canoeing. On top of this the pool and tennis courts and you have a clear winner. I can not fault this site for anything and all the other campers are very friendly especially when the beer and wine is being passed around. With a choice of Super U, Lidl, and Inter Marche 10 minutes away you are never short of anything. We will certainly be returning for longer next year. One tip do not drive to Arcachon and the dunnes on the 1st August - a nightmare but with the good old golden arches and a 10. 30pm return from there life was good. Bergerac is 20 minutes and Branthome is a must for all (45 minutes). A real gem of a site.

We booked this site last year having stayed in the Dordogne before and were looking for somewhere quiet to stay while visiting the area in such a busy month. It turned out to be one of the best sites we have ever visited.
We too were greeted by our fellow campers with a beer and a glass of wine and the week was off to a flyer! As has been said before, huge pitches, immaculate toilet block, the river and canoe (might be an issue if you have very small children), a fishing lake, tennis court and the pool - we did not see the kids all week! Every time we suggested a day off site there was a riot - everything we needed was right there. Because there are so few pitches you get to know everyone really well and there was a lovely friendly atmosphere on site. We are returning for 2 weeks this summer and can't wait.
PS Also had a look round the gites on site and they looked excellent - v clean, light and airy.

We stayed at this beautiful site for 10 nights and had a thoroughly relaxing time. There are just 8 flat pitches, which are huge, (all with EHU) and plenty of grassy areas for the children to play, the lake, the river, the pool, great shower block, washing machine and campers' fridge. As other reviews have said, there's a pedallo and a rowing boat, plus life jackets - you just help yourself. We didn't fish so can't comment on that.
We're not into large commercial sites so this was just perfect for us. It was picturesque and peaceful. We met some lovely people here including the owners who made us feel so welcome.
The local town, Mussidan, has a good supermarket and there is a hypermarket in Montpon. For children there is plenty to do, both on site (loads of space for games, plus boating, swimming etc) and nearby. There is a little lake for swimming with a man-made beach in Montpon (although the loos were grim) (there are also canoes here for hire), and an even better swimming lake, plus beach and playground at La Jamaye. There were a couple of cafes and clean loos here.
Le Pont de Fournil is a good base for accessing many places of interest. We made the fairly long drive to Pilat (Arcachon) where there is the largest sand dune in Europe. It was amazing and we had a fab day at the beach.
We will definitely return to Le Pont de Fournil.

We visited the campsite with some family and friends. My father-in-law stayed in the gite which he found to be clean and comfortable, with all the facilities he needed.
On the camp site, the pitches were huge! There were water points close by and the showers and toilets were fantastic! They were clean and well maintained at all times. The river was beautiful and the lake had a rowing boat on it which provided hours of entertainment. The swimming pool was clean and heated beautifully by the sun.
All in all we had a fantastic time. The English owners were lovely and couldn't do enough for us. So kind and helpful.
If there is one thing I would change, it would be the road. Although it's not a main road on the map it was a little bit busy at times. Having said that, we soon got used to it and it was never busy at night.
To conclude: The campsite, the owners and the area is great. Definitely would go back again!

My husband and I visited this campsite after seeing the reviews and used it for a three day stop on-route to the south and on route for three nights on the way home.
It is stunning! Very peaceful, friendly and excellent facilities. Karen and her family were most welcoming and were there if we needed them. The caravan that was sighted next to out pitch came over and offered us a choice of alcoholic beverage or a typical cuppa Ha Ha Ha.
We rowed on the river, bounced on the large trampoline, fished and walked and had a thoroughly relaxing time before continuing out journey.
The toilets and showers were extremely clean as were the utility areas. The showers were the deluge type and very powerful. Fantastic in the cold and fantastic in the heat!
We have requested to book up again this July and were so impressed we are taking my parents down with their caravan. They can't wait either. I really hope they can fit us in.
The only negative thing I can say is that the road ouside the campsite can be a bit loud when the odd lorry goes by but after the first night you are not so aware of this anymore.
Thank you to the Dalton Family for making your campsite such a huge success and so friendly!

Lovely little site right on the river.
We stayed for 5 nights (Early Sept 06) but were not that lucky with the weather. As a result the pool was a little cold, but on the sunny days and once you acclimatised it was lovely. However, it’s a smallish site and being the end of season we had it to ourselves – fabulous.
The English owners were friendly and left us to our holiday encouraging us to use all their free facilities which include tennis court, rowing boat, canoe, peddle-o on the lake, trampoline and of course fishing.
The river is lovely and calm, I recommend you take the row boat out; life jackets and everything were available – free!
I think the owners have only had the site for a few years and they’re making minor changes as they go, not that they are needed. On the first morning, the shower/ toilet floor was covered with a strange moth like insect, they were an inch deep. They apparently hatch through the night and fly straight to the lights – amazing to watch, it was a blanket of moths. This was late in the evening (11pm ish) and only happened once. The owners were straight out in the morning and after a good clean you would never had known about the carpet of moths. The issue was being resolved by the owner putting mesh against the window so they could no longer get in to the shower.
The lake wasn’t fishing too well due to a weed issue, but the owner was looking to develop this – my father enjoyed passing on his years of fishing knowledge suggesting how he might improve the lake.
We were in a party of two, thankfully the other party, my parents had a car (with a caravan), which if we didn’t have that we wouldn’t have visited the local area. However, it was our first year with our motorhome and we were a little unused to using it for day trips. Also, my wife was 5 months pregnant at the time and our eldest was 18 months so we didn’t take the bikes. Had we have done, we may have found some of the restaurants in the other reviews.
We’d definitely go back, it was so peaceful and relaxing. We could even be back this March as we’re touring the region again.

Myself and my husband stayed here for 4 glorious weeks. The English owners are very friendly and there if you need them. The Showers were the best we have seen in France in the last 12 years. The site has very spacious pitches and is an ideal get away for couples - you can even take out the rowing boat. For 2 weeks of our stay we had the site all to ourselves - absolutely brilliant. We highly recommend this place for anybody wanting to get away from it all. There was a fabulous little restaurant in the next village (Restaurant L'aubergbe - something like that) it was very cheap but the food and service was great. We also went on the site owners recommendation to another restaurant called The Lemon Tree - this cost about 80euros for the two of us for three courses and a nice bottle of wine. The service and food here was excellent but this is a little further to travel. We will definitely be back - thank you for such a great stay.

We had a great time when we came here, we really didn't want to leave. The owners were lovely and nothing was too much trouble. We were made to feel really welcome and it was so homely. The showers and toilet block was the cleanest I have ever seen and were cleaned every day. Other people that came to the site were lovely and friendly as were the locals. We went to a local market which I highly recommend, that was on a wednesday, there were plenty of other plenty of lovely places to see and visit. We can't wait to go back again, I can't recommend this place highly enough.

We visited this campsite in August 2006 and had the most wonderful time. The owners are a lovely family from the UK and all I can say is I wish other site owners would take a leaf out of their book on how to run a site. The site is next to a river where you can relax and fish or get in the rowing boat and tour the riverbank, where you will find an abundance of wildlife. There is also a separate, well stocked fishing lake. There is a pub/bar near by (about a 5 minute bike ride) and we can vouch the locals are friendly and very welcoming, we had a couple of good nights in there. The toilet and shower areas are the cleanest most modern ones we have visited. The pitches are extremely well spaced apart, all with electricity and water facilities. It is a brilliantly located site to visit many areas of France.the Dordogne is absolutely beautiful and it was only just over an hour to the coast. We loved it and the other couples and families we met whilst at the site also loved it and said they would be returning. We just didn't want to leave.
