Just back from Hidden Valley. Great site. Very friendly staff. The entrance road has now been tarmacked so no more potholes although the speed bumps are overkill!
Hardstands are very level and easy to get on/off. 16A electrics so no kettle worries. The staff on site were very friendly and helpful.
Not a huge amount to do on site but some spectacular scenery a short drive away. Highly recommended. Only an hour from Dublin.

We stayed for 3 nights in July, I was a little disappointed on first impressions because it had rained prior to our arrival and the road around the site was full of puddles and muddy. However when the sun came out it did dry up well. As previously stated thier are plans to tarmac this and if this is done will improve it no end.
We had a pitch near to the weir and although quite noisy it was also near to a launching area that we used for our canoe (we went up stream away from the weir and it was very safe). The children also hired a canoe and used the lake in the centre of the site. They woudl have liked to go on the more adventurous canoe run but where to young, maybe next time!
There were 2 small supermarkets in Rathdrum, which was a short walk but up a very steep hill.
We ate at Bates resturant and it was excellent, very good value for money despite the exchange rate, only 70 euros for 3 course a la carte meal and desserts, for 2 adults and 2 children, would highly recommend.
We used the train to Dublin and if we had stayed longer we would have gone as far as Bre only and spent the day there. Seaside town with lots to do.
An easy drive to the ferry port from here and would go again to the site due to the ability to launch the canoe so close to the site.

We stayed in July 2009 and had a very pleasant stay. We found the owner / warden very helpful offering info about things to do locally. Toilet block modern and clean. All the hardstanding caravan pitches are plumbed in which was great as you have to pay for showers in the block. The road has potholes, but there are plans to resurface for 2010, and also build an adventure playground in the camping field. There's a small lake on site where you can hire kayaks and rowing boats. My son helped get stray boats in one evening and was rewarded with a small toy out of the camp shop, which he was delighted about. The site is 10 minutes away from Rathdrum with shops, pubs and couple restaurants. Also in Rathdrum is the railway station with trains into Dublin, takes about 1hr25, but beats the hassle of driving. But beware, you are not supposed to take dogs on the train - we did, because we didn't know and the station at Rathdrum isn't staffed, and no one told us.
We liked the site, and if going back to that area would definitely stay again

Stayed here in July 2008, quite a small site surrounded by a lake and waterfalls etc, the area is very picturesque. The facilities on site included shower blocks, toilets, washing up facilities and a range of hobs etc. to cook. All these facilities seemed relatively new and where very clean, even though it rained constantly for 5 out of our 7 days we still had a good time. Because of the constant rain some areas became boggy but luckily our pitch was ok. The owner was very informative and helpful and even charged up our car battery as our boys had flattened it watching DVD's (due to weather). There is a small shop which sold drinks and snacks you can also hire boats and take a ride in an old fashioned gypsy caravan. There is no entertainment on site but it is close to the local village (about 10 min walk up a steep hill) and there you can find bars, restaurants cafes, supermarkets etc. The surrounding areas are fantastic and offer breathtaking scenery and on the one day it was sunny we went to the local beach and that was spotless. Overall good value for money and is very centrally placed to explore Co. Wicklow. One last thing whilst we where there the road was being re surfaced at the entrance leading to the site and some building work was taking place and apartments where being put up. It would be worthwhile finding out if this has now been completed because it did disrupt getting in and out of the site by car or foot.
