I have stayed on this beautiful campsite before and each time it is more beautiful. The surroundings are amazing, views, wildlife, flora, castles, the list is endless. Everyone is friendly, especially Mortimer who is able to help with any information needed. The facilities are way above the norm with a sitting room with a turf fire, music sessions and friendly people of all nationalities. The camper's kitchen has to be seen to be believed, a real plus for anyone in a tent. Anyway I could go on all night so I will leave you to find out for yourself. See you there !

We have had a wonderful holiday at Mannix Point on the Ring of Kerry. The very last weekend of our fortnights stay coincided with the local music and arts festival in nearby Caherciveen.

Anyway, a brief description of the site. There is a one story building fronted by flowerbeds full of colour, which houses (from left to right) a chemical toilet, the ladies showers and loos, the mens showers and loos, the reception office, and then the sitting room/kitchen etc.

First through the door there is a room with washing machines/dryers and sinks for washing dishes. There is also a sink dedicated for clothes washing.

Walking through that room is another, long room, one end of it is a kitted out kitchen complete with kettle, microwave, toaster, sinks for dish washing, two gas stoves, shelving complete with crockery and utensils, two fridges and one freezer.

There is a noticeboard with lots of info about local attractions and restaurants/takeaways too. At the other end of the room is a couple of long tables and benches, complete with tablecloth and flower arrangements.

Daily printouts of the weather forecast are on the wall. A door leads out to a barbecue area, with benches, a chimnea and a barbecue. To the side of the building are two rotary washing lines with pegs. Flowers abound on that (the back) side of the building too.

Going back through the building again, another side door leads to a sitting room. There is a fireplace in which fires are lit daily, sofa's and seating all around. Two guitars hang on the wall and there is a keyboard and an electric piano too. There are plenty of sockets for charging phones and laptops.

My experience of this room was that over the festival time there was music in the evenings, provided on an ad hoc basis by whoever wanted to sing/play an instrument. Kids joined in too, but if you didn't want to perform there was no pressure to. The week before the festival the sitting room was occupied by people reading books, playing cards, quietly chatting. It was a godsend on the rainy days.

The toilets and showers were kept very clean and there were fresh flower arrangements every day. Tokens are available at reception, and the showers last for 5 minutes. The water is hot and the water pressure constant and strong. A nice touch is that there is a small handwashing sink on the way out so if there are people getting washed up at the main sinks you didn't have to wait for them. There was also a powerful hand dryer adjacent to the the exit.

The site is landscaped with a mixture of low and high hedges, small trees, some palm trees and banks. There was a mixture of hardstanding and grass pitches, most with electricity. There is a viewing mound with a short path leading up to the summit, and since the site is on a headland there is plenty of shorefront.

The views from the site take in grand mountains, an estuary leading out to open sea, and to the left Valentia Island. There is a Sailing Club within the grounds of the campsite and so there are twice daily lessons immediately off the shore of the campsite which are great to watch.

There is free wifi which reaches most of the site except the extreme edges.

At festival time an ice cream van came in to the site every evening and there were crepes for sale from a portable unit every morning.

The weekend of the festival the site was very busy, but the site did not feel cramped.

Mannix Point had people from all over the world staying when I was there. I spoke to Dutch people, folks from Germany, Canada, Switzerland, France, Spain, UK and Ireland. Most of the people that were staying were families but there were a lot of solo backpackers from foreign climes too.

My pitch was a non electric site in an area called 'High Field'. I liked it so much I booked the same pitch for next year. Being the furthest pitch from the main building I didn't have wifi but that did not bother me as I got extensive use of the sitting room.

There is a computer available in reception at the cost of a Euro for 20 minutes for those without smartphones or laptops.

The owner is very friendly and will go out of his way to help. He really does go that extra mile to provide facilities that make this site a home from home for the duration.

This is an amazing site owned by a man who knows what is important to campers. Facilities included a kitchen and dining area with all the home comforts. There is a bbq area just outside the kitchen and also opposite the reception.

Another room has comfy chairs (which you may have to share with a couple of friendly ginger cats), an open peat fire, piano, cd player, photos on the wall and several visitor books going back many years. Great for sitting chatting with a glass or two.

All facilities were very clean and in good supply.

This site could certainly teach others how to create a welcoming atmosphere.

This is a stunning site with a tranquil feel to it, the views from nearly all pitches were fantastic with views of the mountains and lovely sunsets over the Atlantic ocean, all round views as we were overlooking Valentia Island from our pitch. Electric and water on every pitch with a motorhome dump on the way out of the site

Didnt use the showers and toilets as we use our own on board ones, but they were clean and tidy with a charge of 1 euro for the showers. 24 euro's a night for 1 unit with 2 adults.

We had 4 nights for the price of 3 which brought the price down a bit as all Ireland sites are too dear for my liking but back to mannix point, the town of cahersiveen was walking distance but we rode our bikes down.

Banks and supermarkets and plenty of eating places in town.

Mannix point had a lovely lounge with a roaring fire where a lot of socialising went on probably in the summer season but didn't happen while we were there as the season was nearly ended.

WI fi is available on site and its free which was excellent as I couldn't get my normal network of '3' in Ireland

The location of this site is fantastic - we couldn't have been nearer the beach with views across the estuary. Mortimer was very helpful and friendly. He provided lots of advice on walking in the mountains, and on a couple occasions lent us maps. Free Wi-fi available, just take your laptop if you need to keep in touch with the outside world.
Site is about 20min walk from centre of town on footpath along busy road, but there is plenty of car parking in the town. Helen's cafe there does lovely cappucino's and we'd also recommend the Lighthouse cafe on Valencia Island.

The site is very pretty with lots of flowers. We went during the musical festival, and because the weather was awful, the site wasn't too full, so were pleasantly surprised, based on others' reviews that the 'facilities' were not over stretched.
Musicians who were staying on the site were playing in the campers' sitting room every evening, which was great. New in the area for 2009 is a boat which does tours of the estuary area - it has wheels so can come onto land when necessary. Get Mortimer to book the trip for you and the boat will pick you up and drop you off on the beach at the site.

Fantastic scenery, fantastic site, pity about the weather, we did have a lot of rain, but then you don't go to Ireland for the weather, or so everyone keeps telling us.

If you are going to camp in Ireland, you must stay here for some of the time. The welcome, interest, and effort (that everyone on site goes to) is exemplary and the facilities are superb.

The pitches are of a good size and well positioned.

Having an on-site kitchen, laundry, sitting-room (with peat fire)and dining room makes the whole place a more friendly and sociable location.

Take your walking boots and go to Valentia Island, and stop off at the Lighthouse Cafe for a meal. You will not be disappointed.

 PARADISE!

This is the very best site we've stayed on. Very reminiscent of camping in the 1960s but with good facilities. Never had a problem waiting for shower and find that 5 mins is more than enough time.

Camping kitchen and dining room are excellent and the lounge is superb.

Stayed for first time in 2007 and couldn't wait to get back. Booked for next year before we left last week.

No children of our own but plenty of old fashioned seaside fun. Wish we'd taken our boys when they were younger.

Mortimer is of course a star host and I think this helps to make everyone super friendly.

Met friends from last year and have contacts for friends made this year from all over Europe and plans to meet up.

Never like to wish my life away but only 49 weeks to go!

Of the three sites we visited in Ireland this summer, this was by far the most relaxing. The atmosphere was particularly friendly and everyone was keen to chat.More so than on most sites in fact - I think this is because atmosphere is so chilled. We chose a brilliant spot overlooking the sea and Valencia island. It is only small but really well laid out - it doesn't feel at all regimented. Lots of different nationalities and the campers kitchen and lounge for music evenings are superb. Haven't seen better. Mortimer goes out of his way to chat to people and is obviously proud of his home. They have created a lovely quirky little spot - lots of lovely touches like a gypsy caravan to sit outside in and bright painted toilets. Oh and gorgeous plants all over. The only downside really was the lack of dog walking - I suppose you would need to go further off site. I assumed that there would be loads of walks in such a rural spot but not right from the site - just up the road into caherseveen. This is just a big long street which is surprisingly busy with quite a lot of trucks. And road is dreadful! We did love it here though. Had a great trip over to Valencia island. There is a wonderful cafe there called the Lighthouse with superb views and food.

Wonderful site, quiet perfectly situated on edge of sea with spectacular views. Very relaxed site Mortimer is a great host. Caravans are well spaced around several fields. Unfortunately we were there in the wettest time and our field became rather waterlogged by the end of 7 - 10 days of incesant rain, but I expect anywhere would!

Toilets very clean, facilites good, has a cosy sitting room and kitchen facilites for campers use when weather bad. Also bar-b-que area which was used by younger tent campers.

Sits on the Ring of Kerry so plenty of little towns, mountains, harbours etc to explore.

Plus given reduction for longer stays - we had a free night for every 3 nights (think this is an anniversary year for the site?)

Would strongly recommend it for those who enjoy a quiter site - dont know if there would be enough to keep young children fully entertained.

Just back from a couple of weeks visit to Ireland and stayed at this camp site for one night. Very friendly welcome by the owner. Really lovely views over the sea. Showers and toilets were clean and tidy, lots of facilities for tents
Supermarket very close by and the town was a 10 minute stroll away but not very impresive.
We enjoyed our stay and would definetlly be returning to this site if we are in the area again.
