Having stayed here for the last couple of years I knew what to expect. The facilities aren't the best but are a lot better than many other sites.
The camp toilets are pretty dirty, but the toilets in the hotel and tavern are much nicer and are easily accessible.
Being so close to a pub is both a blessing and a curse. We have had noise issues in the past but nothing too serious.
I doubt we'll be returning to Swallow Falls again but for anyone wishing to stay there. Pitch on the lower levels and you'll be fine.

Not sure I agree with previous reviews, maybe things have improved. Camping is on terraces behind the rather super playground to the pub / hotel.
The main road mentioned is behind a large fence, so no problems letting the children play, plus you can see the play area from the terraces.
The Swallow Falls itself is fantastic, just across the road, but if you like peace don't try and sleep here, you can hear the roar of the water loud and clear as if it's coming to get you. This being the case you can't hear your fellow campers, but while we were there everyone was great and the young groups were no trouble at all.
The site was very sheltered in what had been a very windy weekend. The showers are not for the prudish, but hot and free.
Only down side really is the steepness of the terraces that whilst well drained themselves, it does make it interesting when the paths up and down get muddy; the inconsideration of someone had left the washing up sink a tad unpleasant, hubby had to clean it before he could face using it, and for some reason poor old dog had to pay the same per night as a child, which is a lot out of his bonio money.
For a one or two night stopover we would return.

Good pitches for wet weather but you do have a trek if pitching on the ledges higher up. There is no parking next to pitches. Staff at swallows falls were friendly and helpful.
Shower and toilet block are small and don't look to be cleaned very often. Usual rules of no noise after 11 are kept to.
The surrounding area is beautiful, with swallow falls just across the road and betws-y-coed a 5 minute drive away. Also National forest just next door.

We arrived on a Friday evening, no booking, and managed to get 2 pitches side by side for large family tents - bonus! The kids' play area was great for the children while we pitched tents although it wasn't fenced in and with a busy road just at the bottom it meant one of us had to be with the children at all times (no big deal I guess).
We didn't find any problems with noise at all - it was mostly young adults camping in groups but as 2 families we didn't have any problems with this.
We ate in the tavern on the first night - the food was vile and not worth what we paid for it.
Shower blocks and toilets not great - if you shower early they are at least hot but there is no privacy at all and the room is very small so on the second day when I went later it was heaving with people. I don't think the place was cleaned over the weekend so while it wasn't bad on the Friday night, by Saturday night it was pretty gross.
It was fine for our 2 night stay but I don't think we'd choose there again.

I have stayed at this site twice this year and I don't think the toilet block has been cleaned since my last visit in March! The site tends do be frequented by groups of youths who are only there for a drinking session and do not respect fellow campsite users.
I only went back to this site for the excellent breakfast served in the Hotel - This has now changed to mediocre breakfast without cereal or juice so there is no reason for me to go back.
Location wise, the site is accessible by car, but on foot you are restricted to eating/drinking in the hotel only as it is a long walk along a dangerous, unlit road back to the site from Betws.
In a nutshell, Swallow Falls is not a bad site, the ground is fine, well drained and sheltered from the prevailing wind. It is just a shame about the toilets being disgraceful and the undesirables that are allowed to stay.

Visited this site a couple of years ago. Not too many people there when we arrived, so we pitched and went for a swift half. When we came out of the pub the site was packed to the gunnel's. Loud music carried on into the night so not much sleep was had. We only stayed one night. Would be ok if you were in a big group with partying at the top of the agenda. Would not go back.

We booked this place pretty last minute and so were lucky to find a pitch. We don't ask for much in a campsite, as long as there are clean and private showers we are happy. This place advertised shower and washing facilities but they were tiny, dirty, mouldy, 3 showers that were so small you could barely turn around in them with out moving the curtain. The curtain was transparent! You couldn't take your clothes or towel into the cubicle with you as they were so small and so you have to get out of the cubicle to get dressed and you are greeted by a huge queue all waiting for you! Hideous isn't the word. I only experience the gents my friend said in the Lady's that at least two of the three showers had darker curtains. We were quite a young party and so didn't mind the noise, we were drinking until the early hours but there were large groups being really loud until 5 am, at which point others were just getting up! The pitches them selves were OK, but on the higher ground there was so much debris and stones and pot holes, our ground sheets got slashed and ripped just off the ground. The tavern was ok for breakfast, £4.60 for a full welsh breakfast with as much toast, tea, and cereal as you wanted. I would probably return to this site if there was a new and private shower block but as it is no way. A tip for any one who wants a little privacy when cleaning and or shaving, use the disabled toilet, I ,know its not PC but they are largely unused and if your quick at least you get some private space. Oh and a final point take lots of insect repllant or citronella oil to burn the midges were everywhere!
