My wife and I have just returned from a three week stay at Le Cabellou Plage.

The site has easy access for all units and is situated very close to the beach at Cabellou. Across the water you can see the old town of Concarneau.

Reception staff are friendly and speak good English.

Just outside the 'bottom gate' is a minor road, off-road parking and the beach. Nearby is a restaurant and bar/tabac.

The site is gently sloping in places and most emplacements are demarked with hedges (some will take a couple of years to mature).

Many pitches have views over the bay - with some magnificent sunsets. We were on pitch 33 - perhaps the best view on the site but maybe a little too 'public' for some as it's on the main crossroads of the site.

The toilet and shower facilities are immaculate but do not have soap or hand driers.

The showers have controllable levels of hot water and there are a couple of 'private' cubicles in the ladies and gents. Those with young children and babies are well catered for with a separate cubicle with shower, toilet and baby bath.

However, the toilet block could be quite a trek from the furthest corners of the site.

The laundry room has washers and driers and an iron can be borrowed from reception.

There is a beautiful heated swimming pool next to the bar where meals are available as is free wi-fi - ask for the password.

Bread for each day can be ordered from reception.

There are small inflatables for the younger children a giant inflatable slide for the older ones. Table tennis and boules are also available and canoes can be hired.

Around the site are numerous coastal walks (GR34 for the serious walkers) and a simple map can be collected from reception.

The walk to Concarneau is a beautiful and takes around 50 minutes at a gentle stroll. Take the ferry at the end of the walk (80 cents) to take you to the old walled town.

You can walk around the walls and, although 'touristy' there are some nice cafes and restaurants within.

We also visited the Marinarium which, we felt, was a disappointment. For 5 Euro we would have expected more - there are a few tanks containing a variety of fish but most of the space is taken by worthy scientific displays in, naturally, French.

Walking in the opposite direction from Concarneau takes you to some lovely sandy bays and the old fort.

We were on the site during the 'Filet Bleau' festival and were treated to an impressive firework display one evening.

Port Aven is delightful in the sunshine - market day is Tuesday and is very busy.

For children, one of the best beaches has to be the pretty cove called Anse de Rospico - very popular with the locals as well as tourists. It's a drive away but worth the trip.

If I have any criticisms of the site they are minor ones: the lighting around the site could be better, having to wear a fluorescent arm band for the duration of your stay may be a little off- putting for some.

Closing the bar and stopping bread deliveries at the end of August was a little frustrating but this, I suppose, was to be expected as the site fees almost halved at this time.

Friday and Saturday nights were somewhat noisy.

I would have no hesitation in recommending this site and would gladly return.

We have visited many sites in France and this has got to be one of the best.

We have just returned from two weeks at Cabellou Plage, 11 people sharing two pitches with two large tents and a small pop up.

I can not speak highly enough of this site.

Pitches are huge, as you can see by our set up. We had the three tents a kitchen area windbreaked off, enough room for two double tables, as well as two cars and plenty of walking room. British sites take note!

The pitches were an oasis of calm, everybody respecting each other. We even had a group of around 8 young men turn up with 5 tents, and we never heard a peep, despite them bringing their own music. British campers take note!

The facilities are superb. Plenty of washing up room, a sink for washing fish, another for clothes and a shower for the dog. The toilets and showers are spotless and regularly cleaned during the day. You will not find cleaner, dryer or well lit toilets blocks anywhere. British campsite owners take note!

The location is also superb, within walking distance of 4 beaches, a 10 min drive takes you to the largest round the other side of Concarneau.

Shops and Supermarkets are all fairly close, a drive rather than a walk though. Maybe an essentials shop on site may work, but you can't beat bring soft, warm croissants to the tent in a morning. British bakers take note!

The owners have invested in a lovely pool and bar area. Look at the website, and it is just as beautiful in the flesh. Pool, table tennis, cycle and kayak hire are all available on site.

My advise to anyone thinking of a Brittany camping holiday is: GO!, you will not be disappointed in any way.

When we arrived we were greeted by the owner who spoke very good English and was very helpful, she said to pick a pitch and could do the form filling later.

The pitches are all grass and some are full service or(comfort)in France, the one we chose was huge and 14euros per night great value.

The toilet block is divided male one end female the other washing up sinks are running the length of the block,in my opinion they are the cleanest toilets I have ever seen in France.

The pool was new and heated with a bar and terrace with tables and chairs and FREE WI-FI.

Children have inflatable things to play on and a pool table, there is a small sandy beach just outside the site.

The owners are hoping to have a shop on-site later this year for basics, but there are two Boulangeries and an Intermarche close by.We will be returning next year.
