We spent 12 nights here in July this year and had a lovely time.
We got a large pitch which was surrounded on 3 sides with hedging.
We had plenty of room for Caravan, awning and car and still ample grass space for kids to play on.
The electric hook up on our pitch was the French style 2 pin affair, although some have the newer blue UK one's, so I'd suggest you take an adaptor in case.
The bread van comes every day outside the toilet block. Be warned though the queue gets quite big, and you can be waiting for half an hour plus! Especially as the Lady turned up any time between 8:30 and 9:15am !
The main toilet block is huge, during our stay we never had to queue for toilets or showers at any time of the day. And it was always spotlessly clean.
There is no restaurant/bar or takeaway actually on site, but there is a nice restaurant that does takeaway pizza's and frites only a few minutes walk across a field from the site.
The kids loved paddling in the river. The only thing I would say is that we didn't have a pitch directly on the river, and the people that did, didn't seem to want people walking through their pitches to get to it. With strategic placement of washing lines etc!(which is understandable). But it does mean that if your pitch is in the middle of the site you must walk to either one end or the other where there is more of a 'public' access point. Although this is just a small niggle!
Lots to do and see in the area as has already been mentioned. Although the narrow roads do get very busy in the height of the holidays.
There is free parking in a field at Castlenaud, just 5 minutes drive from the site. This gives great access to the Dordogne river. The kids loved playing and paddling in it, although you must beware that it can be fast flowing in places and quite deep!
The local Chateau is a great family day out, and very reasonably priced.
Canoe hire is a must. We hired one for a full day, and even though our kids are only 4 and 7, they absolutely loved it. Although the adults had quite sore arms after 28km's rowing ! (Costs roughly 45 euro's for a full days hire for a family of 4).
The pools on site are a good size although pretty cold and no lifeguard.
The only problem we had were unsupervised teenagers spoiling it for the younger kids, but that seems to be the same everywhere!
If the parents can't enforce the rules then it would have been nice if the site owners would pop by now and again to remind people what is and isn't acceptable! Rant over !
The site on the whole though is very relaxing and very peaceful.
I would definitely stay there again if we head back to the area.
The only other point I would make is that when arriving, don't turn into the site at the first entrance sign (like we did!), as you end up in a maze of narrow lanes that you can't get out of easily! You need to pull up at the main Bel Ombrage building just at the side of the main road, where you will find the reception and they will tell you which of the 3 entrances to use to get to your pitch.
After a long days journey a few choice words were said as we tried to pick our way through the pitches looking for the reception !

We spent the last two weeks of July here on a huge pitch with shade and sun! in front of the aromatic playing field but close enough to the River Ceou. The pitches near the pool appeared to be quite cramped.
We chose this site for it small number of pitches(85?)but there are at least 200 plus now, a new 'avenue' for tents without EHU facing the field which was quiet by 10.00pm like the rest of the site.Just perfect.
The first week was full of very friendly Dutch and French families with tents. The Brits arrived with caravans towards the end of our stay.
In addition to the bread lady who now arrives at 8.30 we also had the wine man twice a week and the fruit couple and honey woman all selling local produce.
The toilets and showers remain spotlessly clean.
The pool now has sun loungers.
The river is such a bonus, clean shallow, safe and provided endless hours of fun for us all!
The hi-lights for us was the 'entertainment' on the field, spontaneous ball games, hot air ballons landing, hokey-cokey with non-English speaking children plus the wonderful home-made boat-race on the river and a 'Sports Day' organised by some Dutch families which all the children on camp seemed to participate in with such enthusiasm.
A must is canoeing on the Dordogne. The site at Castlenaud won't allow under 5's but Butterfly Canoes at Cenac do and were so helpful and friendly, cheaper too.
Castlenaud Castle is fantastic, morning entry cheaper.
The market in Domme with fantastic views.Sarlat very busy.
Pizza takeaway yummy.
The site is wonderful for families with young children. The teenagers hung out by the shower block which didn't worry us.A security man patrolled the site after 11pm so any noise did die down. We were very happy and quietly
Self-contained by the field.
Our children 3,6 &8 made friends with many Dutch children,a great experience, making them feel they were truly away from home.
Highly recommended.

Lovely site !
Good sized shady pitches, river running through the site which gives children hours of entertainment with inflatables, dam building, paddling etc also able to swim in the river at the bottom end of the site.
Nearby canoe hire at Castlenaud for canoeing in the Dordogne - which is an absolute must to do in the area.
3 swimming pools to suit all tastes on site
Your children will love you for taking to this site - whilst there met many people who had been visiting this site for 20+ years - first visiting when they had small children and now continuing to visit even though there children had grown up and long gone.
The Dordogne is quite touristy and busy in peak season but this does mean you will never be short of ideas of things to do.
Visit castles, fortified towns like Domme, numerous caves and Sarlat which comes alive especially in the evening with street entertainers
Note - Laundry facilities overstretched at peak times.

Just got back from this site and we will be definitely going again. We requested a "Grand emplacement" in advance to take our hartford XXL and were amazed at the size of the pitch 22 metres x 13 metres. Most pitches on the site looked a very good size all with electrical connections. Our pitch was close to the play area and away from the small river "Le Ceou" which runs next to the campsite and I am glad it was as these pitches seemed to be closer together and mainly full of Brits. A personal thing I suppose but I prefer to be pitched with a mixture of nationalities. The shower / toilet blocks were very modern and were cleaned 3 times a day and not once did we have to queue to use them. The main outdoor swimming pool is a good size although a little nippy on not so hot days ! The children's play area is well maintained and it has a small games room with 2 table tennis tables, 1 table football game and a few games machines. The local bread man arrives on site a 08:00 hrs (not 9 as booking leaflet tells you) and you do not have to pre order. Furthermore a local fruit and veg man comes twice weekly with his barrow laden with delicious melons, peaches etc. There is a local supermarket a few minutes walk from the campsite however this tends to be more of a bio health food shop selling nuts, lentils etc. We found the "Shop I" supermarket in Ceynac only 10 minutes drive away for be far better equipped and this also had a great butchers counter. The best local markets were in Domme on Thursdays (15 Mins away) or the large one in Sarlat (30 mins away) on Saturdays. Domme is a great local town with breathtaking views however limited parking in the town unless you enjoy hiking so get there before 09:30 to save your legs. Castenaud (10 mins away) has a great chateaux with loads for the kids to see and the bonus is that kids under 10 get in free. The rate for adults was only E 7.20 and a real bargain. If you are looking for a quiet campsite with no bar or evening entertainment then this is the site for you.

We visited Camping Bel Ombrage at the end of August 2006.It is a really lovely site, the river Ceou runs right through it, it has some really gentle shallows for the kids to paddle in and a couple of rope swings over deeper bits for the bigger kids LOL! The bread van comes from La Roque every morning (go to the bread van man's shop- patisserie to die for, especially the milles feuilles fraise.mmm) and the small supermarket in the village is a gentle 3 minute stroll across the field.
There is a pizza takeaway in the village and a couple of restaurants, but very low key, and the only sound at night is the chirrup of the crickets :-) The owner Michele is lovely, very friendly and everything is very clean. I would recommend it to anyone who isn't looking for a noisy nightlife type holiday.
Down to basics after the rapturous waffle. There is a large and very clean toilet block with plenty of showers. There are two showers (third and fourth from the left -but it's our secret okay?) that seem to be much better than the others and are therefore more popular! The loos are cleaned early in the morning by a very friendly local lady. In the block is also plenty of washing up sinks, and also a laundry area with 2 washers and 2 dryers, to use these you buy tokens from Reception.
The pitches are spacious, flat and grassy. In my opinion, the best pitches are at the end of the site, past the toilet block near the river. They are also furthest from the pool and gamesroom. Pitches have water taps shared between two pitches generally and all pitches have hookup facilities. Ours was 2 metres from our tent. The sockets were the modern blue ones. The paths alongside the pitches are lit at night so no need for torches for those late night loo visits.
The pool complex is by the hotel reception and is free to campers. Men are allowed to wear shorts -no compulsary speedos! There is a fairly good sized regular pool which is a bit on the chilly side, a plunge pool for diving and a paddling pool for small ones, all were very clean. There are a couple of benches but no sunbeds. There is a sort of deck area for sunbathing.
Close by the pool area is a small childrens play area with some swings, a large climbing frame and a couple of slides. It was well maintained looking, although a little muddy in the rain.
Next to the pool is a gamesroom with a pool table (I think) and some games machines. We didn't go in there but I would imagine it would be a gathering point for older teens perhaps. It is some distance from any pitches so I doubt there would be a noise problem.
The bread van comes at 9am every day. He has baguettes, pain au chocolat, croissants and pain au raisins.yummy! The local supermarket is, as I mentioned previously, a 3 minute walk from the rear of the site, across a field into the village and is well stocked with most provisions. There is also a petrol station.
The site has a good mix of nationalities, French, Dutch and British in the main, many have been coming back every year for 10 or more years.
There are many things to do locally, we would recommend the Chateau at Castelnaud, boat trips along the river, a walk around La Roque, the market at Sarlat and for a further afield trip, the caves at Padirac.
I would thoroughly recommend this site to anyone, it was a joy to visit.
