I stayed here on mayday bank holiday. The site wasn't too busy and other visitors said that everywhere else was fully booked. I pitched my tent away from other caravans etc and went for a walk. When I returned I found my small tent surrounded by two other large tents with families and lots of children. All their gear was around my tent. All nice people but a bit too close for my liking. The owner said I could use the next field so I moved and enjoyed the rest of my stay there as the only one in a large field.
The grass in the field had not been cut for some time and was up to 8' deep. The ground was very wet in the morning and instead of hiking boots I could have done with some wellies. In this respect and in view of it being the bank holiday weekend I would have expected the owner to prepare the site and therefore I would give them a low mark for customer care.
The facilities were basic with only two toilets and showers which were some walk from the field.
I have a small tent, no electrics, and it cost me £6.00 each night. However, a campervan over 16' + electrics cost only £10 per night. Therefore I thought the charge for a small tent was a bit unfair. I got the impression from my stay that the Owner only wanted the money and did not appear to be really interested in who stayed there. I did not really feel as though I was made to feel welcomed. Perhaps hence that this site was not fully booked.
The village is nice but for entertainment/pubs etc there is nothing.
This review sounds a bit negative but for all that I enjoyed my stay there. Loads of wildlife, a fox stalking two hares, buzzards etc, nice walks and a laid back and peaceful rest.
Strangely, yes I would go back.

The camping field was excellent, only one other tent there when we went. It was flat and neat and the kids loved to make a fuss of the horses that would pop their heads over from the adjoining paddock. There are some great walks down by the River Trent and if you want peace and quiet this is ideal. The facilities are very basic so if you're pampered it might not be for you but if you want to get some relaxation in away from city life its perfect & very cheap (tent & 3 persons £7).

Pleasant well maintained site surrounded on 3 sides by trees. Thrumpton is a quiet village and so did'nt notice any noise while we were there. There are ladies and gents toilets right against the caravan site which caravaners can use with a shower in each.
Electric hookups are provided. One tip I can give you is make sure you have some £1 coins to hand for showers etc.
Ideally situated for Nottingham (8 miles) or Derby (12 miles.
Some lovely country walks from the campsite with lots of footpaths to make up a circular route round the local hills and woods.
The river Trent is just 1/2 mile away with its footpath following the Trent valley and day tickets can be bought for the fishing.
Some great local country pubs in the area although the nearest is 3 miles away as the crow flies.
Attractions include Castle Donington Motor race track, Motor mueseum and Sunday market. National water sports center at Holme Pierpoint and lots places of interest in Nottingham. Don't forget Robin Hood. Attenborough Bird reserve is worth a walk round with thier restuarant situated actually on the water.
To some up its a nice site with lots things to do in the area so I'm sure it won't be long before we go back again.
