In order to avoid repetition, I would like to agree with the previous complimentary reviews, then add the following details.
Site is a large (very approx 100m x 100m), level field with some decorative tree plantings behind owners farm house. Pitching is informal with about 1/3 of the field is covered by 10A EHU.
Water; chem. Disp; laundry shed and simple but adequate wc facilities are conveniently located in one corner of the pitching area.
Disregard the light industrial units just inside the entrance, these have no effect on your caravanning experience. There is a little traffic noise from the nearby road, but again, this is not a problem.
On approach, be vigilant for the site entrance. Whilst it is obvious once you know, there are none of the usual caravanning/camping type signs so it is easy to go sailing past.
Very dog friendly. (No charge)
Within a few hundred metres in either direction of Turnpike Farm lies Popes Caravans for any maintenance requirements and Bedfordshire Growers Country Store & Café. Sainsburys and other supermarkets in Biggleswade town.
A personal recommendation: Shuttleworth Collection of vintage aircraft at Old Warden. The unique thing about Shuttleworth is that most aircraft are kept airworthy, so go when there is a flying day/evening. (See their website)
To sum up: An easy going comfortable small site.

Good, honest, back-to-nature camping!
We had a lovely stay for a long week-end break. When we arrived, we followed the signs, but weren't sure where to pitch. The owner obviously had a very good relationship with his regular customers, because in no time at all, someone called us over and then contacted the owner who came and helped us choose a nice secluded pitch (the shelter of the trees sorely needed on this very cold and windy week-end). He gave us a warm welcome, very friendly and helpful, and lent us an extra long extension for the electrics so we could pitch wherever we wanted.
The site was basic, with no facilities except for one toilet, which was basic but clean and perfectly OK.
This campsite provided us with just what we were looking for - a quiet, peaceful get-away in the beautiful countryside - the sunsets were amazing, and the site was so big that no-one were camped 'on top of each other'. I only wish we had found this campsite when our children were younger because they would have loved the freedom of playing on the field and banks, in between the trees and bushes and the stream - playing of the 'real' kind rather than the 'virtual'.
We would definitely choose this site again if we are in the area.

Exactly what it says on the tin. Lovely people ( both the owners and fellow visitors)
Adequate basic facilities which now include separate washing machine and dryer. Five mins walk to well-stocked farm shop in one direction and similar to bus stop into Biggleswade in the other. ASDA in centre of town, Sainsburys on outskirts.
No problems whatsoever. The owners organise a BBQ from time to time and everyone mucks in.

When we arrived at the site, we noticed the grass was so long we could not find our dog or our dogs mess, there seemed to be no rules for keeping dogs on leads either, we did not find this acceptable with children running around. We also have to say that many of the residents had an array of very old worn out vehicles they occupied that represented a new age gypsy camp. We also couldn't help but notice that most of the caravans were permanent and never moved off site, but just a few meters around the field, every so often, very odd. Electric went off quite often, due too, we discovered splitter sockets on the hook ups. We have noticed the decline in the sites up keep and rules since the original proprietor was there. Very sad.

Have just returned from a weekend at Turnpike Farm. We had booked in order to go to the Bedfordshire County Show. On arrival were greeted and given the low down on the site - very informal and lovely to be able to chose exactly where you wanted to go and very few regulations. Reasonable prices and no charge for dogs.
There are a number of long term pitches taken which does limit your choice, particularly if you want a hook up, but our caravan is small and we tucked ourselves into a perfect spot to enjoy the evening sunshine (which we did get!).
The owners are a lovely family, it's so refreshing to see children playing in the puddles (not on the field, I might add!) and enjoying their surroundings! Fresh eggs also available. There is a road nearby but no disturbing noise.
We used a Chinese takeaway in town on our first night - think it's called San Pan (?), but can recommend.
All in all, although the show itself was a little spoiled by the persistent rain, we thoroughly enjoyed the site and the weekend.

We recently found ourselves having to find a caravan site for 15 days near to Old Warden in Bedfordshire. Having looked at the reviews for Turnpike Farm we were initially put off but found ourselves even more put off by the high overnight fees elsewhere.
So, we arrived and had a very warm welcome, placed the van exactly where we wanted it and within hours we were quite settled and wondering what all the fuss was about.
Turnpike farm is a superb flat pair of fields which drained very well and the site is supplied with a reasonable amount of electric points. The single toilet is clean and tidy and I never found myself having to wait to use it.
There are roads nearby, and a rail line, but the noise really is negligible, and to be fair, once inside your van, you won’t hear anything at all.
We had many chats with the owner, Simon, and I had to agree with his ‘back to basics’ approach – it really is so refreshing to turn up at a site and be charged a fixed fee for your stay, we have two dogs that I’ve been charged, individually, for on other sites, we’ve even been charged to put an awning up. Here, you park where you want and it couldn’t be easier.
There are local walks for the dogs that mean they can get off the site to be exercised. There are no facilities for young kids, but plenty of room for kite flying and football.
We had a few meals out in the area, Biggleswade has a mix of quality eateries as well as the fast food types. The shops mean you can stock up on essentials and with Sainsburys only 5 minutes away, you can afford to pick up daily essentials as you need them.
We were, overall, really pleased to have found Turnpike Farm, and even more pleased that we’d not been put off by previous reviews.
If you find yourself in need of a site as you pass this way, for a few days or a few weeks, I’d recommend that you give Turnpike Farm a go.

This is our second visit to this site. This is a no frills camp site. It is relaxed with no long lists of dos and don't. Some people mentioned road noise in there reviews I didn't think that it was very noisy at all. We were given choices where we could park by a friendly lady. There were children on the site who were playing and amusing themselves. No more noisy than other people talking. Site was quiet when we wanted to sleep. We would return next time we need some where in the area.
I am giving site facilities an 9 as although there isnt many facilities on the site you know that when you book, it had every thing that we needed.

Site Owners Comments
As the owner of Turnpike farm caravan site I would like the opportunity to express my disappointed in the previous review but also to give my side of the story so that users of this site can make their own judgement.
I understand that you felt the 4 acre field was crowded as you decided to park with 20meters of 2 other vans despite driving across the top end of the field with its 4 empty hook ups.
You did call about the noise my mother-in-law came straight out and rectified the problem. Once I returned I came straight over to see you and we had a long chat. I apologised for the noise and you did say that there has been an illness in the family and your husband had not slept for a night (or even 2 I don't remember) but that he was very irritable and tired. I suggested moving to where you were recommended to go. I feel tops and bottoms might have got confused here.
Our site is lovely, flat and well drained looking west over common land to Sandy ridge. Clumps of trees were planted for privacy. The site is well shielded from the B road with a spinney but you do hear the occasional car. It is a field and always will be. We used to grow runner beans in it! We have no pitch numbers, no concrete, no showers, no washing machines. We don't charge extra for dogs, cats, grannies, awnings, foxes, birds or wonderful sunsets. Our lack of facilities is intentional and is reflected in our £10 with electric charge. The toilet with wash hand basin is functional.
I am sorry that this couple did not enjoy their stay. If they had come to the door rather than just leaving I would have happily reimbursed them. When we have a booking we try and be in and if not we have a lovely lady who helps us and new arrivals out.
Our business has been built on word of mouth and repeat business so please have a look at our website. Thank you for reading my side of the story.
Reviewer responds:
In answer to the owners comments, I would just like to say the problem of loud music was not rectified immediately (it went on for hours) and we had no choice but to park near to the other vans as although there is 4 acres, it's split into 2 fields, 1 of which is for rallies, we had been told on our previous visit. So that leaves 2 acres) the hook ups are all placed closely and are not spread out enough to use the whole area. Although there are 4 hook ups at top/bottom of the field, they are actually on the same post, so you can only go as far as your lead will allow you. As all campers know and understand, that once you have settled into your pitch it is difficult and time consuming to have to move everything. I have done 30 reviews now and must say that this was the only site that we felt we were badly treated on. Also the road noise was constant, and not the occasional car as stated! I have always given fair and honest reviews, and will continue to do so.

Although our last visit to this site was not great because of overcrowding, we were visiting family in the area and needed to stay somewhere close for one night. We could not get an answer until we were 10 mins away but were told that yes they had a pitch with electric at the top of the field. As you drive in you drive to the `bottom` of the field where the entrance is, so we drove up to the `top` and tried to decide where to park as pitches are not marked and vans were quite close to one another. As we were parking a fellow camper came over and said that the people next to us park 2 cars there so we moved as far as our electric cable would reach. We were expecting the owners to come out as we had only just spoken to them on the phone, but no-one appeared.
For the first hour it was quite peaceful, despite drone of traffic. Then some fellow campers came back to their caravan and turned on their radio very loudly. After half an hour of this we decided to phone the owners as we did not want to cause any bad feeling by asking them to turn it down. We got the answerphone so left a message to say we were here and also that the neighbours radio was very loud. No response. We had to put up with this loud radio for another hour so phoned the owners again and left yet another message. An hour and a few more calls later we got an answer and spoke to the `lady` owner and explained the situation with the radio. She told us that she would speak to her husband. Her husband showed up 3 hours after this last call. Although he repeatedly said sorry about the noise, he also asked for our £10, and never apologised or made any excuse as to why we had to put up with it for over five hours! He also said that he meant the `top of the field (which to us was the `bottom`), so for all those hours we were in the wrong place anyway! He said we were welcome to move, but after settling on a pitch who wants to up and move? He did go over and talk to them and the radio went down a slight bit, but when he got out of sight it immediately went back up! After putting up with it for another hour 2 other fellow campers went over with chairs and bottles of alcohol and obviously the noise became worse.
We could not take anymore and thought it was pointless phoning again so decided to move to the bottom (top) of the field where we found it to be a bit more peaceful! If only there had been someone to greet us then we would have had a decent stay
The toilet on the site was old and shared between ladies and gents and basically the site is just a field. We know you can always come across `bad` campers, and that cant be helped, but to be ignored for so long by the owners we found to be not acceptable at all. We like our reviews to be fair and truthful and can only be honest about what we find!

A nice location but constant drone of traffic. Only facilities were one toilet, although clean. When my husband and I stayed there were more vans than specified so quite close together. An extension lead ran across in between vans to accommodate the extra vans. Upon plugging in, it cut off somebody elses electricity but was soon remedied. Not much to say as very small site but a local shop within 5 minutes walk.
