A delightful site in a very rural setting. Good shop, cafe/take-away (in season), restaurant, bar. Fresh bread daily. Very helpful English speaking staff. Large pitches with hedges and trees which afford some shade (much needed whilst we were there) and give a nice sense of privacy. The shower blocks are excellent and I never once had to queue. There is a swimming pool and a river runs through the site. There is also a lake for swimming and watersports. Villersexel (just under 10kms) is the nearest town of any size and there are three or four restaurants and a useful supermarket. We went the the Black Forest, Ballon d'Alsace, Saut du Doubs. Beware of the boat trips here - it looks like they take you to a waterfall - which they do - but only if you are prepared to complete the journey on foot! Not great for the less abled. It's a very peaceful site with everything you need and I would be happy to go there again. Particularly if I had young children with me.

We worked as Keycamp couriers on this site in 2008 and came back for a few nights the year after on a holiday in France.
The site is lovely, tucked away in a part of France few tourists get to which means there's a mix of nationalities, and not all British.
The pool complex could be a little cold (it wasn't heated then but I think it is now!) but was still fun.
The snack and bar were always lovely, serving meals quickly and there was a good pool table/arcade game/TV for things to do. In the high season there's plenty of entertainment and a nightclub which opens upstairs.
Nearby we'd recommend Vesoul as a lovely town and make sure you head to Besancon with it's nice squares and lovely places to eat/sightsee!
A great site then, and we can't wait to head back!

We spent 3 nights here at the end of August at the end of our holiday. The site is quite isolated but the setting is fantastic. It is very spread out with most of the pitches fantastic and of a very good size. The site was only about 50% occupied. Eurocamp / Keycamp are on site and have a lot of mobiles which are all at the back of the site. The touring pitches are in a much better location. The pool complex is great for the kids but lacks an area where you can just swim, it isn't deep enough and there's too many kids! The slides are great fun. We did have a problem with the no shorts rule which came in on the 15th August this year. We didn't see the signs and a lifeguard shouted at my son to get out which upset him. The shop doesn't sell speedos and the nearest place selling them was about 20 miles away.
The lake, a 2 min walk form the pitches over the bridge is excellent. The kids loved it, spending hours playing in it with their inflatable canoe. There are also another two lakes on site for fishing and watersports. One evening we had a bike ride round the lakes, beware of the mosquitoes though. The only horrible part of the site was the toilets next to the lake (lake is also open to the public for a small fee)they were disgusting and should be knocked down. The sanitary facilities on main site were excellent with the large main block being newly built and spotless. There were three good playgrounds too, a takeaway which gives huge portions! a bar and a shop. There is wifi near the bar but it was very unreliable (4 euros a day).
One of the best things was the adventure course next to the site entrance, it takes 1.5 hrs and costs 10 euros. It is all supervised and well organised, booking is at reception the day before. In high season there is quite a lot of entertainment, our 1st night there they had their last disco of the season which was loud and went on til midnight. This noise only affects the pitches near the bar.
To sum up we enjoyed this site, I think it would be a struggle in poor weather as it is quite isolated and the ground would get wet and waterlogged but in good weather this site takes some beating especially for families.

We have recently returned from this campsite, we booked via Eurocamp Independent, mainly for the Kids Club and convenience.
The pitch was massive, if a little boggy and sluggy. The biggest we have ever been on, with water nearby and the loo block within a short stroll. We were on the 'quiet' part of the site, I would not have wanted to go anywhere else, the pitches near the pool and bar were very dark and cool, as the weather was changeable, and the trees were very well established, whereas we were surrounded by shrubs which were well maintained, pruning wise. We met a couple who were staying in the ready erected Eurocamp tents, who had spent a very damp and cold week in another part of the site, which had it's own micro-climate! (We were basking in sun!)
The reception staff were very helpful and provided a useful information and booking service for the local and other activities. However, the opening hours of the bar, snack bar and reception were a little unpredictable. On one occasion, we came down from the tree climbing on a hot day, feeling in dire need of an ice-cream or cold drink (I had a beer in mind) and the bar / snack bar area was closed for the afternoon. I was fuming! Luckily another fellow camper rescued me with a beer form his coolbox, but it was annoying. The activities were not always available either, on the week we arrived there was a full range to choose from, then all the Students that man the site went back to uni and the activities were cut by 2/3 to practically nothing. We were there during the last two weeks in August, which is peak time in the UK, but not, apparently in France.
Aside from that the site is in a wonderful location if you want to relax and get away from it all, there is plenty of scenery on the doorstep, and we were never bored. Rougemont is a gorgeous little town which had, frankly, a better stocked supermarket than the one in nearby Vesoul. There was also a delightful cafe in the village square, very French, with a very friendly lady who would always greet you cheerfully and was very patient with our slow and limited French.
The showers on our part of the site were spotless, cleaned twice daily and the loos were the same. The rubbish man, who would empty the bin bags every morning was so punctual, we set our watches by him. (0930) Of course, you can also hear the church clock telling you the time, so we took our watches off!
The supermarket on the campsite was adequate, and stocked all the usual, plus newspapers.
The bar did not have the friendly ambience we would have liked, the weekly sangria session was invaded by the locals, so wasn't the pleasant evening we had hoped for, and the disco also seemed to be for the locals, too. There could be some improvement in the large area of the bar, it seemed to have been added as an afterthought, with nasty plastic chairs and very old broken tables. Not what you would expect from a Castels site? (We have been to a few, and this bar fell well short of the high standard you would expect from a premium site)
Having said that, the location and setting, the clean facilities and pitch quality made for a very pleasant holiday.

We visited this site in August 07, and for the first few days it rained solidly. The weather had many people leaving and heading for other areas or even for home! For those who stayed it was worth the effort. Although the site was very wet many of the pitches stood up well to the downpour. People were however being moved away from some of the riverside pitches, just in case. The rest of the facilities were up to the usual Castels standard. The new toilet block was excellent and was worth travelling to from other parts of the site. The pool was fantastic and one night a week they held a night-time disco-swim which was good for teenagers- but be warned it was very loud and went on quite late so choose a pitch away from the pool if you value peaceful nights. There was a tree top rope walk on site and a kart track next door (which has 2 seater karts for smaller kids to accompany a parent), both of which were very good. As others have said this is a very 'big' area of France so you will need to cover a lot of miles to make the most of it. Day Trips to Switzerland & Germany are easily achievable.

Good site but situated in the middle of nowhere so expect to drive a fair distance if you want entertainment. Good facilities and spotlessly clean the whole time, great pool if a bit cold! Fairly comprehensive shop though its worth going into Rougemont to the Casino supermarche there or if you want a hypermarket into Vesoul or Besancon. Did Day trips to Lausanne and Freiburg - both well worth the effort of actually getting there! Would go back!

The site is set in a lovely situation beside the river L’Ognon with a water park adjacent. It is large and busy with several tour operators present and popular with families and particularly the Dutch. The pitches are big and level, those further away from the pool and play areas being the biggest and much quieter. Some of the pitches nearer the entrance were very dark particularly due to the wet conditions and would see little or no sun when it was out! There is a brand new toilet block for 2007 which has some of the best showers I have come across. The showers are of the conventional type where you can control the temperature and flow. Unfortunately some people are likely to abuse these facilities and the site could well revert back to the more usual Presto type showers. I say this because one night I found that some one had left one of the showers running at its hottest and on full power. Furthermore many people ignore the request to leave their shoes outside the showering area on the shelves provided. The toilets are mounted particularly high and only really cater for those with very long legs! For those of you who may be shy of being seen in the shower be careful which one you pick because at night you could be seen reflected in the Velux windows! On Friday nights at 6.00pm you are invited to the Terrace area for a free drink of sangria. Do not bother to turn up at that time, leave it until at least 7.00pm because they are unlikely to be ready much before then. The team of students organising it did not seem to have much idea of customer relations and appeared more content to drink sangria and talk amongst themselves. We were there from 2nd to 12th July 2007 which must have been one of the wettest periods that the site had ever experienced. They struggled to cope with the waterlogged pitches which must have been a nightmare for the tent campers. We have been on better sites.
