 The fact that the weather chose to turn windy and cooler may have dampened our enthusiasm for the campsite, but we were not impressed with the overall state of the site, part of the Campeole group. The wonder of Avignon is close, but perhaps not close enough and there is a feeling of detachment. The shop is open part of the day -pricey and bread etc needs to be pre-ordered. The site is predominantly statics and empty on our visit. We stayed three nights which was long enough to see some of the locality, which is worthy of visiting, but we were disappointed in L'lle des Papes as a lengthier place to camp.

We spent 2 weeks here. It was ok but probably better for a 2 or 3 night stay. Facilities are basic, the pool is small and very crowded, the shop is expensive.
On the plus side it is very reasonable and you do have a view of the Palais des Papes although it is slightly spoilt by a 6 foot green fence which runs the length of the campsite.
Just a 10 minute walk away is Les Palmeraies - the most beautiful open air swimming pool complex, expensive but really luxurious - it felt like something in the Caribbean and it was very welcome after the rather dusty grubby campsite, you can buy daily membership - about £25 for a family of 5 but definitely worth it. There's also a lovely restaurant there with live jazz on a Sunday.
Avignon is obviously a really good base for exploring Provence, but for a long stay, Id recommend staying somewhere else.
