We loved it here - after touring round Europe campsites this one stood out as high quality as soon as we arrived.
Really great location near but not too near the bustling town, right by the river where you can canoe, fish and swim - we loved river swimming in the evenings. The facilities are amazing, kids toilets a big hit. Kids club very well run and lots to do. Can't believe someone said the pool is boring - my daughter grew webbed feet she was in there so much! They had fun and games at the pool and fitness for grown ups, a lazy river and some toys were allowed. Lifeguard too which was good. The food and shop were good, but the restaurant service was pretty poor when we were there, there were complaints so hope it is sorted now. Highly recommended enjoyable visit. One negative - they wanted to keep back one passport (really not cool) until departure and forgot to return it. Had to cancel passport - hope this system has now changed.

We had a fantastic holiday here this month – I have to say this is the first French site we have stayed where we felt we could return to year after year. Normally by the end of a holiday we are all ready to go home but none of us wanted to leave this time.
The best things about L’ardechois for us were, it was mid August but compared to other sites we have holidayed at you wouldn’t have known it as it never once felt over crowded.
The location is perfect, access to the river which was really close to our pitch and walking distance to Vallon which was a lovely town which had a market on a Thursday and a night market on a Tuesday and plenty of restaurants, bars and shops. Also plenty to see in the local area by car.
The kids club for under 12s was brilliant – my daughter was in a clown workshop, a prehistoric show, she made mosaics, flowers, jewellery – in the past she has always refused to get involved in the kids clubs but the staff who run it are so enthusiastic and all inclusive that she obviously couldn’t resist! There is so much going on for the kids that we had to fight to go out some days!
Grand Comfort pitches – lovely and large we had a generous space for our car, caravan, awning and then a large space to sit out at. We were on row G – I would personally be requesting rows from G back to the river pitches as they are generous, away from the main entertainment area (but still only a couple of mins walk away) and close to the river. If you book a standard pitch I’d suggest you request a generous pitch away from the shower blocks as there were some pitches where 3 shower block doors pretty much opened straight on to the pitch!
Friendliness – this was the friendliest site I have ever stayed on, Dutch German, French & English all really friendly and chatty – when we arrived there was a van parked at the end of our row meaning we couldn’t tow the van on to the pitch, within seconds 4 men appeared from their units and helped push the van onto its pitch and helped us decide which way to situate it. More English here than normal too, my daughter had no shortage of friends for the entire holiday which is a first so far.
The entertainment stage was opposite the restaurant and bar area as is the play area, so you could be finishing your meal or having a drink whilst the children have a play or take part in the shows.
Showerblocks were spotless the whole time we were there – the auto flushing loos in the showerblock closest to our pitch took some getting used to though.
Our negatives – were mainly the restaurant, the food was OK the service was awful. It was friendly enough but understaffed and really poor service. We were given a table, we then had to flag someone down to get a menu, then flag them down again to get a drink, then flag them down again to order our food – this all spoils your meal when you constantly have to break off conversation to try and get attention and takes far too long with young children at the table. The family on the next table had their kids meals delivered to the table but the adults weren’t served their food for over an hour later! The thing is it wasn’t even three quarters full at the time. We ate a few times here but it really didn’t get much better.
The drinks were a bit confusing either 100mls or a bottle of wine – and OH couldn’t find a beer he liked either which is highly unusual!
Entertainment was quite poor in parts – best shows were the ones the kids took part in most of the rest were pretty poor really, but the children like to watch it.
I’d recommend the Super you in Ruoms for a large supermarket for all your shopping needs, plus it has a camping aisle if you forget odds and ends. Also the petrol station attached to it is pretty cheap too.
Confusing bit about the river pitches is that I’ve just contacted them about booking one when they open for bookings in November, but they say I can’t book one as they don't allocate them and I should just book a grand comfort pitch and request one. However, when I booked my grand comfort pitch in January of this year I was told that there were no river pitches left and that they cost more than regular grand comfort pitches so they must allocate at some point – so I may have to be persistent here to get what I want!
Pitches are really shady, a negative I thought at first but after a couple of days at the river or by the pool in 34 degree heat we realised that this was a good thing and evenings were pleasant rather than boiling hot. Also on row G you could actually sunbathe at your pitch but also find shade too which was great for lazy days around your unit.
The pool was fine, the pool itself was never overcrowded and there was enough for my children not be bored - I thought they may miss a slide but they didn't. They could definitely add some more sunbeds as there are loads of empty spaces where they could fit a few more in. Yes its the same as everywhere else you have to be there by 10am to get a sunbed and lots of people do just leave their towels on and leave but I don't know anywhere where it isn't a problem to be honest.
All in all because of the weather, the size of the pitches and the fact that it wasn’t over crowded in August and our children had the best holiday – we will be returning here probably next year, hopefully to a river pitch! Hopefully, the restaurant will get its act together by then too!

I agree with previous reviews as Camping Ardechois is a high quality camp-site in a beautiful location.
The site is without any doubt the smartest and cleanest in the vicinity of Pont D'Arc and deserves its 5 star rating
Key points:
Toilet, shower and wash up facilities were seriously immaculate at all times which is a great testament to any site in the middle of August. The blocks seemed and certainly felt brand new and both were very creatively set out in terms of decor and range of facilities. The chemical waste disposal point was cleaner and better equipped than the actual loo's in other good standard campsites ! There is even a pristine cleaning area for dogs ! Plenty of hot water although when all showers are at full capacity at 6pm water was just warm, however that wasn't a problem and will be no different anywhere - so planning your shower away from rush hour is recommended. There are however loads of showers cubicles.
Location. The site is in a beautiful area with surrounding hills and very green. The site has direct river access with a fantastic to swim in and also has a launching area for kayaks. This is of particular benefit and very convenient if you want to do a kayak trip which means you can leave directly from site. The kayak trips are well worth is and as mentioned in previous reviews you can choose from 7km to over 30. The reality is you can make a 7K trip last all day as you can stop off on river banks enroute to picnic, its also better for younger kids.
The town of Vallon Pont Darc is only a 10 min walk and is very pretty and quaint with plenty of restaurants, bars shops etc. There are also night markets held each week.
Restaurant on site is ok not gourmet but more than adequate. Standard choice from good pizzas to excellent salads, steak etc. Mid ranged in price, typical meal for four excl drinks 50 euros. Good atmosphere but if you want to avoid the kids shows or animation eat and clear off by 9pm.
Restaurant area and terrace is great for a quiet coffee in the morning.
I would have to disagree with previous review as the staff were excellent. The helpfulness and friendly approach by all was the best I have seen in a long time in France, any small problems were quickly responded to and the receptionists were always extremely friendly. Even the owner got involved in day to day stuff and was extremely helpful.
Well equipped shop for camp-site standards and you could virtually stock up without the need to go to Intermarche or Super U, prices weren't loaded either maybe only a tad more than supermarket if that.
Ask for a large pitch as some maybe too cramped also pitches VERY shady don't expect to sun bathe on your pitch. Try and get a river pitch on arrival - well worth it.
Great facilities for activities, tennis, table tennis, huge park area (tastefully done) football pitch (well away from pitches) volley ball.
Pool area very good, but not that many beds made worse by some campers who queue from 9. 30 to 'reserve' beds with towels then don't return til after lunch. Something the site need to sort.
Site is geared up for younger kids say toddler to 12 so teenagers could get bored, July and August site full everyday and teeming with little kids running around in all directions so watch out when cycling around site roads !
Weather - it can get very hot in Ardeche in August we had blue skies and 36 degrees.
Overall an excellent site worth at least 8 to 9 out of 9/10

This site is one of the best sites we have stayed at in over ten years of travelling to France. It is in an ideal location right on the bank of the Ardeche river. It is near the busy town of Vallon pont d'Arc which is useful for an evening stroll to sample the ice creams.
We were fortunate to be allocated one of the nine fabulous river side pitches. The site does not do pre-allocation of pitches so you really have to take your chance. Some pitches were very close to the wash blocks but other than that most pitches were of a very good standard if anything suffering from too much shade. The ground is nice and soft for easy placing of tent pegs. It is worth paying extra to have a grand comfort pitch to avoid the smaller pitches. There are about 25 chalets on the site and about 20 eurocamp tents.
The wash blocks were kept absolutely spotless with good showers which you can control the temperature. The only downside to the wash blocks is that the hot water could not keep up with demand resulting in luke warm showers and dish water at busy times.
There is plenty of space for sport and the site has a large grass football area, a multi-sport pitch, sand volley ball court, tennis court and four table tennis tables. There is a 'ludo-parc' which is ideal for hide and seek type games. There is also a couple of play areas for younger children. Canoes can also be hired from the site.
The pool complex has two swimming pools, a toddlers pool and a jacuzzi. The toddlers pool and the jacuzzi were too cold although the swimming pools were fine as long as you kept moving. There was a lack of sunbeds around the pool and the site could do better by providing more. The river is also suitable for swimming or playing in.
The restaurant and takeaway provided good 'camp site' quality food and was competitively priced. There are also many alternative restaurants within walking distance and in the surrounding area. The site shop provides most essentials and there is no requirement to order bread or pastries. There is internet wi-fi in the bar area.
The local supermarket is an Intermache which was very busy and badly run. An alternative is the Super you in Ruoms about 10 minutes drive or a Lidl which is in between. A small grocers in Salavas which we found had the best fruit and veg in the area.
There are plenty of places to walk, run or cycle in the surrounding area. The Pont d'Arc is about 3km up the road. There are two small hills overlooking the camp site which offer nice walks and views of the camp site. There are plenty of other attractions in the area.
The reception staff provided a good welcome to new arrivals, although we found lacked adequate responsiveness and knowledge when asked questions during the stay. An example being when the wi-fi was not working and they shrugged and suggested to try again later. Another camper told us that we need to try sitting in a different area of the terrace.
Overall it is a site we are likely to return to even though we are likely to be disappointed at not getting a riverside pitch on the second visit.

This is by far the best site we have ever stayed in! We booked five nights - a whopping £350 for 5 nights for 2 adults, 2 children and EHU - and wished we'd booked for longer.
The welcome was warm and organised, with a map of the site, a programme of events and a welcome bottle of red Ardeche wine. We had booked a superior, fully serviced pitch which was situated at the back of the site directly overlooking the river. With the van parked with its back to the path and other pitches, we had a fabulous view over the gorge and river and spent many happy hours watching hordes of people kayaking down the river.
The toilet and shower blocks were wonderfully clean and modern and very stylish and even met the approval of our fussy teenage daughter. The on-site restaurant served decent food at a reasonable price and good service. At least half of it is open air and it looks over the small stage area where they had various entertainments most evenings. There was also a takeaway next to the restaurant which did pizzas, fries etc. The site shop was very well stocked and a good price. Newspapers, fresh bread, gaz, everything you could possibly need.
Vallon Pont D'Arc is about a 20 minute walk away, quite tiring in the heat (the Ardeche is very hot and dry) but worth it. An old town, with lots of interesting side streets and quirky restaurants and bars and lots of clothes and touristy shops. We enjoyed buying the local mustards and oils in the specialist shops.
Of course no trip to the Ardeche is complete without doing some kayaking. At the back of the site (almost right next to our pitch) you can book a kayak trip - either 7km,24km or the full 31km. We started with the 7km, two kayaks with two of us in each. You put all your stuff in a waterproof container they give you and which sits securely in your kayak, they give you a map and tell you where the tricky rapids are (!). It was wonderful and not too difficult - and I'm a 50-something woman who has never kayaked or canoed before! The water was quite shallow so the rapids didn't feel too scary. You get out at a pre-arranged spot and wait for the minibus to take you back to the campsite, we only waited about 10 minutes. A couple of days later we did the 24km. The minibus took us back to where we got out after the 7km trip and we did the 24km. That was harder as the last stretch was very still and you had to paddle hard. We were all tired but exhilarated. It is really the only way to see the Ardeche properly. You actually paddle under the famous Pont D'Arc itself - we pulled over onto a little beach area and swam in the river and explored the caves. Unbelievably picturesque (even the nudist bit!) and we couldn't believe we had never heard much before about this wonderful part of France.
We'll definitely be back. Perfect campsite, perfect scenery, fabulous weather, great food and wine and big big skies full of stars at night. Perfect!

This site stays in my mind as the best campsite I've ever been to.
The facilities are great and were spotless, never any queueing. Shop well stocked and decently priced and ate in the restaurant a few times.
Was great to have the river at the back of the site for swimming although fishing proved most unproductive! Town is 10 mins walk away with lovely shops and places to eat, fixed price 15e for 3 courses in lots of places. Big supermarket to stock up.
Kayaking great fun as well

Fantastic site. On the banks of the river and canoe trips run from site. The town of Valon is 20 mins walk (slight hill but not too steep) and has a great choice of bars and restaurants.
We went on a microlight flight from a tiny airstrip 5 minutes drive away which was brilliant.
The site itself is immaculately clean with the toilet blocks being cleaned almost continuously. The camp restaurant has a good menu and you can est in or outdoors - obviously depending on weather. Good quality food served and friendly staff providing good service.
There is a very good swimming pool complex and a relaxing sun area that is popular but never seemed to be crowded.
There is an entertainment programme in summer - based by the restaurant so you can have a well priced, reasonable quality meal & then enjoy the entertainment.
Overall - our third visit to this site and we will return because of the location and quality of site

Just returned from 4 night stay at L'Ardechois - fantastic 4* site with excellent facilities - bar, take-away, small shop, restaurant. 3 'infinity' swimming pools.
Shower / toilet block first class with small showers and toilets for little people -children!. No entertainment at this time of the year but we understand they have a programme of events during the peak season. Everywhere very clean,
English speaking staff very helpful despite site due to close the following week. We used the bikes to cycle around the area and into nearby village for shopping, meals out etc. Lovely surrounding area and plenty to do if you enjoy canoeing, walking. Cycling etc. Would definitely visit again.
