 Such a good campsite.

Safe for children and very clean for everyone.

Pitches were good sizes and hook up's worked all the time we were there.

Each pitch had a cold water tap point near to them.

Shower block clean all day long and plenty of hot water available.

Swimming pool was simply fab! and the weather was also.

We did plenty of fishing in their lake which holds good sized Carp, and even the odd terrapin who used to sit on his stage and watch us fish.

We are definitely returning next year, but crossing at Pool to Cherburgh as the hold up on the French tolls were dreadful, and by the time you cost out what you pay in toll fees, tariff works out just slightly more but with less miles.

Kn1te has done an excellent review below so I wont repeat everything they have already said.

This is an excellent site that we would definitely return to and infact wished we hadnt left to venture closer to Calais so soon. Its a family run site and all the staff members there were very friendly throughout. The facilities were kept immaculate throughout and despite the site not being busy were cleaned at least twice per day, even hoovered. The pitch was massive and although didn't have its own water supply wasn't far from the facilities block.

Some of the showers didn't stay on as long as others but that was the only problem I had. Other than that they were fine and didn't appear to be affected by toilets being flushed during our stay.

The lake was lovely and the below mentioned pedalo is available for hire at 3euro for 20 minutes regardless of number of people on it. My husband and son used it and the same could be said about those on the bank, they were annoying with their rods. At the end of the day its a lake and its not dedicated to fishing or the pedalo so a little consideration is needed. We bought a small remote control speedboat for our son and were given permission to use it on the lake, we did try not to get in the way of the fishing so hope we didn't annoy anyone. :)

All in all a lovely site that we intend on returning to.

We stayed here for three nights and were extremely lucky with the weather. The site is very clean and the pool complex with the slides was a win for the kids.

There are large pitches though when we were there it was quiet.

There is a small menu at the bar which serves the usual kind of food.

The local village is near has several reasonable restaurants.

There a good bike trails around the area and the beaches go for miles.

You can order fresh bread at the bar for a morning delivery

It was a lovely stop over on the way home to Cherbourg

 Over all:

We visited the site in early August with myself, my wife, our 2 year old son, and my mother and father inlaw. The site is a relativity small site, with all the main areas close together. It is very well maintained, and the families that run it are incredibly friendly. The site is mainly French with some dutch and the odd brit thrown in which was nice to experience.

It was around half full when we were there which was surprising. On entering the site you pull up to reception and check in. There’s plenty for the kids to do on site but with the benefit of them not being miles away. Around a quarter of the site is dedicated to statics. These are a mix of rented holiday homes, and privately own units by both French and brits. We liked the site, and would probably go back.

Toilet Block:

The site has two blocks. The main block by reception. The other is a smaller block situated at the top of the site near the statics. They are exceptionally clean and well maintained. There are showers (male and female allocated), Toilets, Wash sinks, washing up facilities and clothes wash sinks all in the same buildings. They don’t allow people to wash barbeques in the washing up sinks. This needs to be done in a bucket out side. We found it just as easy to do this at the pitch. The showers are the push button type and seemed to react to toilets being flushed. With the toilets, the toilet roll is on the wall outside the cubicle, so remember to take some in with you!

The chemical waste point is a new on one me. It’s just outside the main block about 2 meters from the kids play park. It was a normal green water point with a removable grid cover. It has the sign “Vidor” on the back of the point facing the wall of the toilet block.

Pitches:

The pitches range in size. They are all big by UK standards but I thought a bit small for French standards. We had a superior pitch which had its own water and waste. The waste facility, fine, very convenient. The water facility however left quite a bit to be desired. The tap is a push button type, which is fine if you only need an egg cup full at a time, but if you need to fill a barrel, you have to keep pressing it. The water pressure in the tap is mind blowingly low. Combine the two, and filling a single water barrel becomes an all-day task. I made a loop from cable ties to keep the push button depressed, so I could just leave the barrel to fill. The filling took around 15 minutes for one 40l barrel. The lake side pitches are bordered from the lake by a small fence about 2. 5’ high. High enough to stop a wandering toddler, but small enough for an angler to hurdle over. My mother and father in law have a motor home, I don’t think there is a service point anywhere on site. We rigged up a hose to slowly (very slowly) fill the water tanks and used my grey waste barrel to empty the waste tank.

Bar/restaurant:

As a bar this is really nice. Clean tidy, service fast. As a restaurant, it not much. It’s not what I would call a restaurant, it more take always and fast food type. Bar prises are normal campsite prices, but the food I though was a little on the steep side. The outdoor terrace area is really nice. It overlooks both the lake and the swimming pool. There is entertainment on. Tuesdays seem to be the big one, and go on till 11:45pm. There is not a proper shop on site. There is a small self in the bar with the essential essentials, but no fresh products. You can order bread and pastries from the bar for the following day. This needs to be done before 7pm. We only did this once. It was expensive and not of the best quality. The town centre is literally a ten minuet walk down the road and is full of patisseries so get yourself there.

Fishing Lake:

I’m an avid fisherman, I found this lake of a very good standard to other campsite lakes I’ve been to, both in the UK and France. It is literally stuffed full of carp. They go from around a pound to mid doubles on average. The largest I had was just over 15lbs, but there were a few 20’s out while I was there. I wasn’t keen on how some of the continentals were fishing. Hand lining large fish out and dangling them several feet in the air before dumping them on the ground and letting them flap about a bit, as a result a lot of the fish are damaged. As far as tactics go, I fished mostly with a full blown carp set up. There is a two rod limit, but if you can keep two rods out your doing something wrong. I ended up just using one. Bait wise, they will take anything. If you don’t catch on this lake, I would suggest taking up golf. There is pedelo for hire on the lake, which was a flipping pain in the back side. If you choose to hire it, please bear-in-mind that you will be annoying everyone who is on the bank.

Pool:

The pool is separated in to three areas, splash pool for the 4 lane slide, main pool with bubble pool, and baby pool. Apparently it’s heated… if this is the case, I would not want to go in when it’s not! They operate a strict no shorts rule as most of the French sites do. I was cast out for wearing dedicated swim shorts within 10 seconds of getting in. I’m still baffled as to why this is so. So I had to don a pair of dignity stripping speedos so I could go in with my son.

Reception:

Is full of informative stuff to do in the area. All the staff speak very good English and will bend over backwards to help with anything. Payment is due on arrival.

Kids facilities:

There is a kids club. We didn’t use this, but they always seemed to be doing something. There is a pool table in the bar, along with some games machines. The table tennis area was always full. There are two park areas one for 3-12 year olds and one for younger kids. My son was all over both. There is also a small football pitch at the top of the campsite. They arrange various sporting completions, such as archery, football and table tennis.

Local stuff:

The proximity of the town of Haye-du-Puits is a 1 minute drive or a ten minute walk. Is a really nice little town. There is a supermarket, bakeries, butchers, clothes shops, a couple of restaurants, cafes the lot. I can very much recommend the restaurant of “Le Commerce”. The matket on a Wednesday morning is a must not miss event. It’s really busy with all manner of stalls. Keep in mind that driving through town is not really possible on a Wednesday morning. A short drive away there is a larger super market, an Intermarche. This has quite a bit more choice than the Carfour in town.

There are loads of beaches and coastal towns in the area. The beaches are clean and easy to reach, about 20 minutes’ drive from the site. The WW2 landing sites, Pegasus Bridge and versus historic towns are within an easy drive of the site, and well worth a visit.

 Loved this site.

Our first French camping experience set the bar high!

The only reason we wouldn't go back is the British style weather.

Lovely welcoming site with flowers everywhere.

Pool good although cold.

Nice cafe / bar & very friendly owners.

Good mix of nationalities and not many Brits which we really liked.

Easy walk to town with all the shops you need & a huge supermarket minutes drive away.

Great beaches in the vicinity - we had a day at Catteret which was stunning.

Would definitely recommend to anyone for whom sun not a priority or who doesn't want to drive far.

This site is lovely, the toilet facilities are spotless - there is a cleaning lady there virtually all the time so no chance of getting dirty.

The pitches are hedged which makes them private, they are good sized and easy to access.

As we arrived very late at night (12.30am) we were expecting to spend the night in their overnight stopover area, but were surprised to be met by the owners who walked us over to our pitch only asking us to be as quiet as we could in order not to wake up fellow campers.

We stayed for 2 weeks and in that time the weather was mixed but we did manage to spend 2 days around the pool which was lovely and again beautifully maintained.

The site is a great base for lovely unspoilt beaches, and very central for visiting the D.Day landing beaches.

This was our second visit and our first review says it all. Still a high standard with spacious pitches, friendly owner and well maintained facilities. The only down side was a strong euro meant less visits to the bar or going out for meals.

Thne pool was much warmer this year - a new heating system had been installed.

Lake fishing was very good with some double figure carp being caught.

We would definitely consider going back for a third visit.

Staying with some very good and some mixed weather, a very relaxing holiday. Pretty and peaceful campsite, clean, friendly, spacious and warm swimming pool, good fishing.

Plenty to visit around with no touring stress.

Ideal if you like biking.

Nice shopping village 'La Haye du Puits' at 1K.

Good activities for children, and safe.

Very good situation if you cross the channel via Cherbourg or Caen (Ouistreham)and need to stop overnight.

We had 2 weeks on this site and loved it, from the moment we arrived all the staff were very helpful and couldn't do enough for you
The site itself is kept very well and washing up and shower blocks are very clean. With the pool and children's club our 4 little ones had a great time
We spent some afternoons visiting the beaches and there a quite a few all of which we found great. The short walk into La Haye Du Puite was nice and we found a lovely village with lots of shops and a market once a week
All in all well worth a visit and we are going back soon,

Just returned from a Camping & Caravan Club rally there and was very impressed with the site. The pitches were spacious and there was an even mix of statics/tents/tourers. The pool was good, not too crowded with a good waterslide but a bit on the cold side at times. There is good fishing to be had on the lake (and it is free)

Bar prices were reasonable and there were 'snack' meals if you wanted them. La Hayes des Puits was only five minutes away by foot and is a nice little town with plenty of shops and a couple of good supermarkets. Wednesday morning is market day - worth seeing.

The children's facilities were good and there was a kid's club most mornings followed by general entertainment most afternoons/evenings.

The owner was very helpful and we only had one small problem with kids being too loud at 11pm one night which he sorted out very quickly.

It's a good base for exploring the nearby D-day beaches though plan your museum trips carefully as too many museums in one day can get tiring especially with children in tow.

Don't go to this site if you are expecting it to be a french version of Butlins and crawling with Brits as there is a wide spread of Nationalities.

If you are of the type that groups together drinking and shouting/talking loudly until the early hours then forget it - the owner told me he has thrown out people on more than one occasion for doing this.If you want a quiet family site then you've found it.
