Had a fantastic couple of days here, as a single mum of two, it was lovely to let the kids go and know that they were safe and busy.
This farm is magical, the woodlands beautiful and you can easily get lost in your own thoughts one moment and then rampage through with the kids on a den building mission the next.
The facilities are basic but I have a camper with solar power so I didn't need them, and if I had it certainly wouldn't have put me off.
The area is definitely off the beaten track but the local shop is well stocked with unusual local stuff and the pub is great- good food and beer.
The owner is a gem, always helpful and he has created a truly unique escape- although I wish him loads of success I was almost reluctant to leave this in case Rhydhowell becomes too well known and becomes a victim of its own success!
We will definitely be back.

How can we start to describe what a magical discovery this campsite was?
Idyllic rolling hills, fields, a stream, woodland walk, horses, ducks, guinea pigs, baby housemartins, rabbits and sheepdog would be a start.
And to top it all, the gentlest, most charming owner/farmer you could wish for in John Quinn.
Had four days here with our four children and friends. The kids never wanted to leave the site and only promises of beautiful beaches (like the nearby Mwnt) could lure them away.
Lots of reviews mentioned basic facilities but in truth what do you need, aside from good flushing toilets and a constant supply of hot water from the showers, which Rhydhowell provides?
There are also indoor kitchen and dining facilities for rainy weather, plus fire pits.
We loved it! Thank you for quietly achieving everything a campsite should be.

This campsite was a real find! This was our third visit and I doubt it will be our last. This is camping as it should be; campfires, starry skies, lovely views, no petty rules and regulations; the laid back attitude of 'farmer John' is one of the many good points of this place. Yes, the facilities are basic; but isn't that what camping's supposed to be about?
The walk through the valley near the camping field is lovely; my two children (4 and 6) loved running about and exploring in this safe environment.

What a lovely, relaxing site. Small & basic, but that's all part of the appeal.
Set in a very secluded area, but with pub, shop etc not far away.
The site has a very accommodating owner 'Farmer Jonn', who is very helpful & seemingly always available. There is a lovely Nature Trail which is well worth an explore, especially in the sunshine, which we had all weekend ;-)
Ducks & the farm dog wander freely & horses & sheep are near-by
Showers & toilets are basic, but this is not a problem & camp fires are available on the camping field.
No negatives what-so-ever, we will be back ;-)

We have just returned from an amazing 6 nights at Rhydhowell Farm. It's hard to explain the logic but within 24 hours the sites magic makes you ignore the wild camping facilities (they do go beyond basic!) but it really doesn't matter. The sin would be not visiting the site as it showed us that there is so much more to a campsite than a shiny shower block.
Within an hour the children met their soul mates for the week. Even the bad weather didn't seem to dampen anyones spirits with about 10 children from 18 months to 13 years of age playing cricket, rugby and rocket flying.
The site is so laid back with no rules and John is a true gent as outlined in the review above. Nothing is too much bother such as when he printed off a list of dog friendly beaches for us to visit and helped my husband out of a ditch that he reversed into! He regularly came down to the field for a chat and shared the history of the farm.
The campfires at night had the fields hooking up and bonding over beer and marshmallows! The site is beautiful, wonderful views, meadow fields, streams, various animals and a fantastic nature trail.
We were in the bottom field and woke to horses heads over the fence, views of the hils, sounds of sheep and cows and a visit from Sally the sheep dog (who liked our two labradors!) This field did seems to have more of a soul as was smaller with more fire pits and in places less sloping than the other fields and nearer to the toilets.
Locally there is loads to do, a fantastic iron age village, a chcolate farm, castles, beaches galore. Newport is a brilliant village with a lovely butchers (great value) selling veg, meat and eggs and Newport has a great Farmers market on a Monday.
This is the best camping holiday we have had to date and it's also the first time I left feeling I had made friends for life. This is a real back to nature experience but don't forget to bring your wellies!
See you next year John for a camping weekend or two and thanks again for letting us into your little gem of a farm.

We have recently returned from a wonderful 2 weeks here. When we arrived we were rather shocked at how basic the facilities were but having slept on it decided we could manage. We are so glad we did as we have since decided this was the best campsite we have ever stayed on.
The peace and tranquillity definitely worth sacrificing posh showers for. We had Red Kites and Buzzards overhead, sheep in the next field and ducks and geese on site. Perfect.
There are 3 firepits in the main field and our son had a great time with a couple of campfires toasting marshmallows. The main field is a little sloping but there are flattish areas to be found.
The shop in the village is a 15 minute walk away and is very well stocked. The road looks a bit dodgy at first but having walked it at least twice we found only one car passed us so it is safe.
John is the most welcoming and helpful person we have found running a site. Nothing was too much trouble for him and he even printed off a bus timetable when I inquired about bus times from the village.
Cannot close this review without mentioning the beautiful Sally. She is a darling dog who is extremely friendly and came to visit our own collie when she could.
All in all I would highly recommend this site if its a peace and back to nature holiday you are after. We will be returning next year without doubt!

We enjoyed a fantastic week of good weather at what can only be described as a little gem of a site. On arrival we were greeted by Farmer John, a true gent of the old school, and Sally the extremely laid back sheepdog. We were allowed to select our own pitch and were hard pressed to choose as there was so much space. Eventually we selected a spot in the middle field, overlooking the beautiful hills.
This is an amazing place to stay, so peaceful, our two dogs quickly chilled out and enjoyed walks on the nature trail, which was a tad overgrown at the beginning but bear with it and it opens out.
We had the good fortune to have booked a Hawk Walk experience through the woods with Alex and Malachi from Pembrokeshire Falconry - I can honestly say it was one of the most incredible and magical experiences I have ever had - well worth it.
If you are looking for posh shiny toilet blocks and tarmac drives and neatly manicured electric hooked up plots then don't come here because it's not your kind of camping! - everyone was really friendly and relaxed - John was a wealth of information - we wouldn't have known about the 'Shell House' if not for him. Repaid him by towing his clapped out VW Golf up the bumpy drive!
We will definitely be recommending this site to other like minded campers. Fire pit, barbecue, stars, no noise or light pollution an excellent way to end each day of the exploration of this idyllic part of the world.

We decided to use this campsite as previous reviews gave positive feedback and how right they were.
We arrived to be greeted by John the farmer, who was friendly and helpful, the camp site provided toilets and shower which were basic but clean and the site was within walking distance (20mins) of Boncath which had a small store and fantastic pub which we could have stayed in all night.
I could not find any fault with site and would recommend it to all.
We will return to this peaceful part of pembrokeshire soon.

We have just finished unpacking after a truly wicked week. There were 5 of us 2 adults 3 kids (10 months 2 years and 9 years) We were 1st time campers and wanted a real experience of camping.
I found Rhydhowell farm randomly and I fell in love instantly. On our arrival Farmer John was there to meet us he showed us where we could pitch our tent told us the only rule no playing on the hay bales and left us to choose our pitch.
We have had camp fires toasted marshmallows fed ponies seen cows, chicken, sheep, ducks and much more.
The shower and loo is very basic but when camping what do you really expect. The children loved the freedom they just went where they wanted when they wanted we had no worries.
Farmer John is a great man and has many lovely ideas for what he wants to do to better the farm, and we wish all the very best. We will be going back next spring hopefully for lambing etc.

This is a rare find, a campsite without lists of rules and regulations, a quiet and beautiful place where you are left to your own devices so long as you're not bothering anyone else. It was amazing to be able to have a campfire every night, the perfect way to end the day!
The owner, John, was friendly and accommodating. He gave us a quick tour when we arrived and let us choose our own spot. We were travelling with a dog and chose our own fenced off area so that we could let the dog run free.
The facilities at the campsite are a bit basic, but they are clean and more importantly, spider free!
Overall, we had a lovely holiday and we plan to return to this site over and over again!
