We've just returned from 2 weeks at Tour Le Prises on the Ile de Re, staying in a tent. It was our first visit to the island and we had a fantastic time and would definitely return. The campsite was fairly small and quiet and the staff were friendly. The shop was adequately stocked and open all day and free WIFI access was available in the games room. The reception staff were friendly and spoke English and were very welcoming to us and our dog (so much so we were concerned that we'd be leaving minus the dog!). The best way to get around the island is by bicycle which you could hire at the campsite and the staff were very accommodating to our ever changing hire requirements. Our biggest regret is not hiring the bikes earlier in the holiday - there is so much to see on the island and bike is by far the easiest way to get around and the campsite is ideally situation right on the main cycle path. The campsite and facilities were clean and take away pizzas were available. However all that said there were a couple of downsides mainly - there were insufficient sinks for the campsite and you often needed to queue, the nearest restaurant was 10 minutes away on bike (around 20 mins walk) and the whole island (not just the campsite) was fairly expensive and certainly a little more so than France in general. All that said we would definitely return and would stay on the same site.

I would concour with much of the other reviews apart from the comments regarding the reception staff. We have been here 6 times now for periods up to 12 nights and have no complaints about them, and now get a warm welcome from a young man who remembers which pitch we have used without checking.
The only problems we have are with the narrow site roads and the occasional influx of Dutch ralliers who fill the site. We have never booked but I would recommend it for July August and if possible check if the rallies are going to be there.Finaly the toll is €15 until the middle of June when it goes up to high season price.

The site is in a quiet setting off a minor road with 140 pitches on flat ground; mainly tourers with a sprinkling of mobile homes. The atmosphere is French with only a few Brits and Germans. The rather bare pitches are numbered and marked out with low hedges while there is some shade from trees. Although pitches are of a reasonable size the site feels crowded. This is not helped by the narrow, tree-lined access roads - be prepared to enlist help to push your van into position.
Reception doubles as an information point. The staff speak English but are efficient rather than friendly. Facilities include a covered pool, small shop and games room. A small mobile takeaway / bar operates in the evenings. The two washblocks are cleaned regularly. Toilets are French style with no seat.
There are no activities organised for children on site but the games room is well equipped and popular as is the pool and simply riding round on cycles. A good beach is 600m away across one busy road but you can walk or cycle out of the site across the salt marshes into a nearby village.
La Couarde sur Mer is nearby and has a pleasant pedestrian area with shops and cafes; a supermarket and daily market in high season.
The island is popular with French and has a bit of a reputation for exclusivity (the locals have a campaign to keep the existing bridge toll (27 euros, return, for a caravan) ostensibly for ecological reasons but allegedly in order to discourage ‘undesirable’ visitors!). The yachtie town of St Martin is a short drive or cycle away . There is a bird sanctuary on the saltmarshes and you can go up the lighthouse at the end of the island. There is a regular bus to La Rochelle.
The one essential item is a cycle, brought or hired – there is good network of cycle tracks across the island and pretty much everyone seems to get around that way.

We stayed here for 4 nights, the site had roomy pitches bordered by small hedges, with a stone wall around half the site. There were plenty of tree's to provide shade but allow for sunbathing patches and privacy. Ile de re is a beautiful picture postcard island dotted with small villages and 100km of cycle paths. In fact the island is made for cyclists with virtually all predominantly French visitors getting around the island on their bikes. The site was perfectly situated in the middle of the island, with couarde sur mer a mere 5 minute velo ride away. The facilities on site were good, plenty of showers and wash cubicles which were regularly cleaned, the washing up area was particularly spacious and clean. Although we didn't use the pool and games areas they looked well run with plenty of families using them.
Overall we loved this site and looking at others on the island which were much more open with very little shade or very tightly packed we felt lucky to have discovered it and would not hesitate to visit again!
