We pre booked and paid months ahead using this as a couple of nights stop off on way back from Scotland. We arrived around 6 pm to a packed area and could not see anywhere with room for us to pitch! Obviously we would expect to see a clear pitch free but there wasn't and being as advertised as a CCC certified location for 5 pitches we were surprised to find a mixture of 10 tents, vans and motorhomes already there squashed onto 2 small areas either side of the main driveway to the house area.
The website and write up looked really nice so we were somewhat disappointed. The lady came from the house when we knocked to try to sort us out a pitch. She perched us on a very small area (only tiny space left that was only big enough for a tent) let alone classed as a caravan pitch, as you came in the gate, but we had to put our van a different way round to how it would normally go she said due to the lack of space and it was the only way we could fit in. To be able to put up our awning we had to block the caravan next to us in, so we hoped that they were not leaving before us as we would have had to take everything down to let them out. Luckily they went the day after us.
We were crammed in like sardines and no one had any privacy you could all see what everyone else was doing. Most campers as we did, just put our chairs etc all together in the small space left. The owner made the excuse they had been away and the person looking after the site had just let everyone pitch all over the place but think was just a case of get as many in as can and make as much money as can.
The approach to the site was up an unmade road on the edge of a council estate, we did wonder at one point where on earth we would end up!. There is a chippy, costcutter and newsagents on the estate and further into the village a few other shops.
It is just outside York and a very quiet location. There is a couple of good park and rides if don't want to drive in, but an ideal base from which to explore the area.
There is a couple of water taps on site but with the amount of us there the facilities were stretched. Only one sink but its a washing up sink and in a loo! which was a bit strange. The chemical disposal was just a manhole and not a pleasant experience! This is the first and only site we have ever had to wait for showers and loos as always someone in there. We wouldn't return.

Nice well kept site, hard to find. We went to the small roundabout and took the acomb turning and needed to be off at the big roundabout back towards the A64.
The Site is in a housing estate but you are surrounded by trees so cant see any houses. When we went we were the only ones there. The Price was £10 Without EHU or £12 with ECH, we went without as we were only there for one night and wernt bothered about hookup.
The toilets were ok clean and clean towels. Didnt use the shower as we could not get hot water to come through so we used out shower in the caravan. Only 15 mins from york. When we went to york we found it quicker to go through York itself and not the outskirts.
Site owner was very nice and let us stay while late as we were the only ones there. Which was good of them. The price for non ECU needs to be a bit lower as £2 isn't a big reduction. Good little site and will use it again.

Hard to find site, satnav directions take you totally wrong place, would be advisable for site owners to find out postcode of house at end of their drive and use that.
Really nice camping area, (we paid as a caravan so we could have electrical hook up) however the sites facilities were lacking, washing up area is in the toilet, both toilets and shower area could have done with a good clean, (old cloths, sponges, dirty towels and mat in the shower area, scraps of soap and other peoples bristles in the sink is a real turn off)
Would also advise taking earplugs as the noise from the nearby road was quite loud early in the morning.
On the plus side it was cheap to stay, if you have a caravan with your own facilities then it would be ideal, other than the noise of the road the location was good and we loved the chickens that were plodding around and sat with us while we ate our breakfast!
Easy access to York and Acomb village itself is nice with pretty much every kind of shop you would need.

We visited this site in June for two nights, as we were attending an event in York, The location was very nice, the owner told us to pitch our tent where we liked on the all grass area. It is well sheltered by trees, and we enjoyed the hens wandering about the place. The owner gave us a tour round, informing us of all the history relating to the house and grounds.
Unfortunately the facilities where also very old and in need of updating, shower and toilets didn't seem to be cleaned over the weekend we were there, and as previously stated, the washing up area was in a toilet! and yes there was old wet smelly towels on the shower cubicle floor. But at £6 per night you get what you pay for. Pity as this is so handy for York. With a bit of updating this would be a lovely little site.
This site has hook ups for about 5 caravans a couple of which looked like seasonals and room for 5/6 tents depending on size. There are no children facilities, and the track to the site is very bumpy!
When I rang to book in, I was told not to use a Sat Nav, as this would take me to the wrong place, instead follow instructions on site details. Still difficult to find, as there was no site sign!

This is a small campsite set amongst trees on the outskirts of York. The site itself is very pleasant, all grass, with mature trees around the edge providing a secluded feel. Unfortunately the site was badly let down by extremely poor toilet and shower facilities. A little extra care and effort by the owners would make a big difference. A pity because this site is otherwise ideal for a visit to York being only a ten minute bus ride from the centre of the City.
