We stayed here for two weeks in August and it was excellent.
Very helpful and friendly people who are willing to spend time to answer your questions.
The pitches were excellent - 100 square meters which provided shade or shelter during wet weather (the locals said it had been a poor summer this year. )
Onsite facilities include a shop selling basic provisions, bread delivered each morning.
Toilet blocks, showers and dishwashing all clean and we never had to wait long. Good pool area, with water heated to a pleasant temperature; which makes it good for families
The location of this campsite was great - really easy to find. Access is OK for larger vans.
We really enjoyed our stay.

We stayed in mid July on for 5 nights.
We arrived at 11am and the owners allowed us to pitch. Owners very friendly and helpful, reception full of tourist information.
The site has a touring field that is reserved for caravans and tents only, this comprises of a mixture of hard standings, grassed pitches with gravel strips for wheels and totally grassed pitches. The grass is cut nice and short, the borders are well maintained, ideal for campers.
On site there is a heated shower/ toilet block with free hot showers which is well maintained and kept clean and well stocked. The block also houses a wash up area with an abundance of free hot water.
Locally here is plenty to do, the national park is a couple of miles away.
The site is away from the main road and is promoted as a quiet site and indeed it was very quiet.
We would visit again.

We stayed here for 6 nights and had a very relaxing time. This is a place to relax, with very little going on. Owner was friendly on arrival and we were allowed to choose our own pitch. The pitches were large and enjoyed both shade and sun. High Amps supply, and numerous water points throughout the site. Facilities were excellent. The site has a shop with fresh bread and a few other basic supplies. There are a few supermarkets within 5 min drive. A very clean site and friendly staff. Would definitely go back again.

We spent 12 nights here in August. We loved this site. We had a warm and friendly welcome from the owners who live on site. Reception were very professional, willing to speak English or French, and offered a selection of pitches.
Our pitch was a good 100 m square with water. Ideal for any larger units requiring space. The views over the lake in the mornings and evenings were fantastic; we were lucky to have a pitch on the front overlooking the lake.
Amenity block was clean at all times, with plenty of free hot water and the site was full. The swimming pool is heated and again kept very clean.
The area around has much to offer sightseeing. Small shop offering essentials, fresh bread, croissants every day. Thoroughly recommended !

We stayed on this campsite in July 2010 because the famous “Tour de France” passed nearby. We had an excellent stay ! We had a big pitch with a beautiful view on the Pyrenees. The sanitary equipments are very clean and well maintained. Although the campsite was nearly fully booked we could appreciate the calmness. It’s situated in the picturesque village of Arcizans-Avant. We enjoyed having dinner in its typical French restaurants where you can taste local gastronomy at reasonable prices. For those who like hiking, this is the place to go ! As for us, we’ll certainly go back!

Excellent touring base near Argeles Gazost in Pyrenees.
Camping du Lac, Aricizans-Avant is in the Midi-Pyrenees near the larger town of Argeles Gazost.
Camping du Lac is located on the outskirts of the mountain village of Aricizans-Avant. It was the first long stay site of our 2008 holiday in France and we stayed for 9 nights at the beginning of August. The campsite has to be reached via a mountain road from village of Pierrefitte Nestalas as caravans are banned from the more direct route from Argeles Gazost. Even the permitted route is very narrow and difficult in a couple of places, particularly passing through the villages.
It is set on the hillside above the valley spa town and tourist centre of Argeles Gazost which lies due south of Lourdes. Nearly the whole of the campsite is sloping and so are most of the pitches. We had a very large, pitch on a large grassy area near the gate. We shared this area with 4 other outfits but all had plenty of room. We had 10 amp electricity and a water point nearby. The waste and CDP point was, however in the main toilet / office block an uphill walk away. The pitch had plenty of shade from mature trees. We found it hard to get the 'van levelled – the jockey wheel was on a pile of ramps whilst the back end was almost on the floor.
The site had a small outdoor pool and, also, a boules area. In the 2 storey toilet / reception block there was a laundry room and very clean and adequate sanitary facilities. Upstairs in this block was a table tennis room, a TV room and a communal meeting room. There were a number of illustrated evening talks, eg, Walking in the Pyrenees in the communal room whilst we were staying there. The reception office sold a very small selection of basic foodstuffs and ice cream and fresh bread was delivered daily. It, also, had a range of tourist information leaflets. Take-away food such as chips, pizzas, etc could be cooked to order. The office was manned by 2 ladies, the younger of whom spoke excellent English and was very helpful. All of the notices, including, the days weather forecast were posted in several languages, including, English but there were very few other Brits on the site.
In the village there was a pub and a restaurant. The latter was listed by 'Les Routiers' and supposed to be very good but we did not try it. The pub offered internet access at 5E for an hour but it was on their computer rather, in a backroom, rather than wi-fi.
Argeles Gazost was a steep downhill drive of about 2 miles. It had a wide range of shops and a weekly market. There was a large hypermarket and, also, Aldi and Netto stores. In the central market area a very generous computer store had a notice up giving details of free wi-fi network and even put out a picnic table and chairs for web-surfers to use. I used this on several evenings after the shop had closed. The town, also, had a good tourist info office.
The site was an excellent centre for touring the High Pyrenees and we did this extensively. We drove over the Col du Tournalet and then on to La Mongie where we ascended by cable car to the top of the scenic Pic du Midi Bigorre where there is a scientific research station and display. Very expensive cable car, however, at c£25 each. We, also, drove the Col du Aubisque and then drove up to the ski station of Artouste. At the summit of the Col d'Aubisque there are 3 giant bikes to commemorate its use in the Tour de France. There were, also, horses and goats roaming freely around the car park begging for food from the tourists. From Artouste we took a cable car into the mountains and rode on the Petit Train d'Artouste, a narrow guage railway used in the construction of a dam it was a spectacular ride with super mountain views. At the end of the line we climbed up a very stony path to look at the dam and reservoir – the mountains at the far end of the lake were the border between France and Spain. All of the mountain cols (passes) gave some spectacular and at times scary driving experiences with steep climbs, vertical drop and tight hairpins. All of the pass roads were thronged with cyclists seeking to emulate the riders of the Tour de France. We, also, drove to Cauterets and then took the cable car and 'flying settee' up to the Pont d'Espagne nature reserve where we hiked to the a beautiful blue glacier-fed mountain lake – just right for a soothing paddle for my tired feet. We, also, visited the town of Luchon and took the cable car up into the mountains above the town. We then again walked in the mountains for half a day and saw a golden eagle circling on the thermals.
The weather was very mixed with rain on many of the nights. The days were generally fine. On a wet day we visited the Grottes (caves) of Betharran near Lourdes. The caves were really spectacular and much more extensive than any I had visited in the UK. We were the only English speakers in our tour group but our guide excelled himself. He was SO stereotypically French even down to a beret and droopy moustache – he looked like a character from 'allo, allo'. As well as playing the English recorded commentary at each commentary point he made a particular point of regularly drawing us to one side to repeat the commentary he had just given in French to the rest of the group to us in English. The tour finished with a boat trip on a subterranean river and then a train to conclude. The trip lasted about an hour and we travelled underground from one side of the hill to the other. We drove through Lourdes but decided not to brave the crowds and lack of parking.
The site was very quiet and peaceful and kept very clean and tidy. There were good mountain views from some parts of the site, although not from our pitch. At £22.67 per night (2 adults, car, caravan and 10 amp EHU) I thought that this site was overpriced. But I suppose it is a popular area and certainly there were only 2 or 3 vacant pitches left when we arrived.
Owner's response:
First we want to thank this couple for their visit last year. Regarding access to the site, the normal road was closed at the time of the visit, and maybe the deviation was more difficult to find but all people who follow our indications with caravans find very easy and there is no problem to drive with a big caravan or motor home.
We want to say that we are members of the very well known " Quality France Charter" which is an important guarantee for the quality of the campsite and we noted : 99.7 % satisfaction. We are also very well considered by the Caravan Club and its members.
We are terribly sorry if some things don't suit to this guests and we want to invite them free of charge for a stay at their convenience.
