We used to stay at penhalt many years ago, but started to use trewetett farm cc site near tintagel, until this year when we they were fully booked.
We stayed at penhalt and it was superb, no fuss, very friendly farmer.
As has been said the views are something special.
So from now on our annual trip to north Cornwall will be to penhalt
We tend to use our own facilities but the site toilts are very clean and modern.
The TV reception is very good if you can drag yourself away from the views.
So try it but not to many of you.

Only living 3/4 of an hour away from Widmouth Bay, we decided one Saturday evening to visit one of our favourite pubs, The Bay View Inn as they allow dogs in the bar, we then thought we'd take the motorhome over and find a campsite nearby, the pub had recommended Penhalt and what a find with fabulous views. It was quiet and the owners so friendly.
we were given a hardstanding by the hedge with a hook up. The site is good old fashioned basic camping, showers (40p per 4 minutes), toilets and a games room for children and they have a dog exercise area in the next field.
From the site you can pick up the coastpath in either direction to Crackington Haven or Widmouth Bay and Bude.
There is a restaurant and pub within walking distance, but the site had such a relaxing feel to it that we have booked up 5 nights at the end of August, sometimes you don't have to go very far away from home to find a peaceful haven and this sums up Penhalt.
Looking forward to going back at the end of the month. **Please note that we haven't made a rating on child friendliness because we don't have children, but the children we did see looked to be having a whale of a time. 10/10 for doggie friendliness though!

We stayed here for 4 nights (Mon-Fri) during half-term late May/early June 2011 and absolutely loved it! The view of Widemouth Bay from the campsite was spectacular .
There were swings, a slide and games room with tv for kids.
Washing facilities were fine (no hot water for sinks while we were there, but the boiler had broken down and the owners were in the middle of having a new one fitted), but could do with being cleaned more frequently at busy periods.
Tokens for showers were 40p each (4 mins shower) and could be purchased from the little campsite shop at the farmhouse. We don't have children ourselves but all of the children on site were clearly having the time of their lives!
There was loads of space for them to run around and play, cycle bikes, fly kites, play football etc. This site is dog friendly - although owners are asked to keep dogs on leads not many did so - this didn't bother us, as all the dogs were kept well controlled and we were never disturbed by any barking in the evening or at night.
We're not into surfing but lots of people staying on site were making great use of the beach at Widemouth to go surfing - so if you're looking for a good base for a surfing/camping trip this is it!
We walked some of the coastal path - lots of steep gradients to negotiate but well worth it for the views. We shopped for groceries in the Sainsbury's in Bude about 5-10 mins drive up the coast - free parking for up to 1.5hrs at the supermarket.
We did day trips to Tintagel, Clovelly and Padstow - easy drives from Widemouth. Finally, it is very important to us when choosing a campsite that excessive noise isn't tolerated during the small hours.
Apart from the occasional bit of loud music from the cars of inconsiderate fellow campers on return from the beach, we found this campsite to be nice and quiet and found that everyone kept noise to a minimum at night and early in the morning.
All in all a very enjoyable few days and would definitely stay here again.

Penhalt Farm was, without doubt, the highlight of our 10-day motorhome tour of Cornwall. We stopped at a different site each night, from the overpriced (£43 a night at the Caravan Club site in Looe) to basic but pleasant (£18 a night Treyarnon Bay). But Penhalt had the best view by miles, the friendliest welcome, the most attractive setting and a general feeling of relaxed holiday fun.
In terms of facilities there's everything that you need and nothing that you don't. The access road is on the steep and narrow side for long/wide units, but the journey is rewarded by the amazing panoramic views on the camping field.
As others have said, the field slopes very steeply towards the bottom, but the pitches at the top are flat and spacious.
In short, we had the best of times at Penhalt Farm and chose to stay an extra night at what, to us, was right up there among the all-time great sites we've stayed on in 30 years of camping, caravanning and now motorhoming.
Will definitely make a point of returning.

The views of Widemouth bay on the Website do not do this site justice the view is amazing!
A basic but very clean site, electric hook ups around the outside by the edges.
The site starts off flat near to the amenities then after about 200 yards drops into a steep slope that in my opinion would be unusable for camping.
Ample space in the flat area in the middle of field yet the lady that greeted us wouldn't let us camp there.
Basic kids mini play are next to amenities and indoor pool table.Showers and toilets kept clean.
All in all good value for money

Basic site ran by friendly farmer - shop/reception not always manned so make sure you keep supply of shower tokens whilst there - 40p each. Sloping field, EHU at top where flatter, very steep
Towards bottom, so much so that the cars couldn't make it up in 1st gear so cars were reversing off the field - away from EHU you could pitch anywhere but the down side to this was large groups camped in centre haphazardly which blocked direct access to the water - no set time for arrival / departure so could pack up later in day when tent was dry
Wonderful views & Bude 10 mins drive away, main supermarket was Sainsbury at top of hill when comin off Summerleaze beach, or a further 5 mins down the road was a Morrisons
Would consider again as reasonable price for peak season compared to others

My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights for £7 a night. We were greeted by the farmer owner who was friendly. The site consists of 1 large field slightly sloping, where you camp around the outside and the are hook ups available. If you can pitch by the hedge as this gives you some shelter from the wind. When we were there there were only 5 units and it was very peaceful. The views are to die for as you can see all of Widemouth Bay and Bude and as far as Lundy Island.
The facilities were very modern and clean with showers costing 20p for a token which gives you 3 minutes. There were also family bathrooms with plenty of hot water but you need to let it run a while so it can heat up. There are outdoor washing up facilities. Also a laundry, playroom with tv, pool tables, air hockey, table tennis and an outdoor play area. There was a shop which stocked essentials and the owners wife was nice and friendly.
You can arrive and leave at any time on this site which is better than most. There is a large family pub within walking distance but was closed while we were there, but there are plenty more in Widemouth and Bude. The nearest shops/supermarket are in Bude which is a 10 min drive away. There are good walks from the farm, but it is quite hilly, and there is a bus stop which is 15 min walk away. I will definitely be going back to Penhalt Farm.

Visited this site three times in all, has to be the campsite with the most spectacular view in England. Fabulous views over the coast and hills. Also very user-friendly, good facilities & friendly owners. Enough entertainment but not too much, a small but well-stocked shop, only possible downside that it can be a bit windswept due to the high-up position. Very handy for Widemouth Bay & Bude which were the main point of our visits, keeping surf-mad teenies happy. Which they were - and as Widemouth is patrolled we could also leave them to it and go and do something more interesting. All in all a very memorable campsite
