Date of Visit: August 2013 Unit:  Touring Caravan

Arrived at this site after making a booking via phone and attending its sister site approximately 4 miles to pay/check in.

The site is split between statics on certain fields and seasonal tourers/tourers and tents on the remaining fields.

There is no shop on site but the village of Moelfre is a 5 minute drive/ 20 min walk with a little shop, pub, restaurants and cafe which are all nice. The each is a 5-10 walk away and is a great family sandy beach with toilets and a small shop and ideal for children/swimming etc.

The site; sadly I got the impression that its run on a shoestring budget with every expense spared, from the poorly designed shower block which relies on everyone who enters to close the internal door to save anyone seeing you getting in/out of the showers naked, insufficient hooks or no bench to dress or undress, wet sink surface and dirty window sills, meant that its difficult to keep your towel or clothes dry or clean when washing or shaving, the showers which were lukewarm only, the laundry and washing up facilities were scruffy and the bins overflowing due either not having enough bins or collections and no recycling facilities. At one point I filled the sink up about three times to find the hot (warm) water was brown. I asked one of the maintenance guys if they knew about it, and they told me the tanks had had a flushing agent put in them.

As there is no warden on site, the place appears to be un-policed and saw some scary moments as cars travel around the child packed site at 20 mph on the Tarmac roads.

In addition to this I saw a contractor on site driving a Nissan Nivara, towing a plant trailer around and constantly on the phone, as he drove up and down passing children.

Having said that, we experienced heavy rain for 24hours which left large puddles around the grassed areas, which drained quickly.

If this site cost £15 per night I wouldn't be so critical, but with no play area, chargeable showers, and the cost cutting nature of the site, I wouldn't be in a rush to stay here again.

Site was split into static vans, seasonal pitches and tourers. Was put onto grassed area by tractor as ground was very boggy due to the amount of rain. Even with blocks provided we were unable to level van

The 'modern' toilet block was in need of a good cleaning and was in fact dirty.

Litter was left to blow about with overflowing bins in the yard. The washing machine area was primitive with trees growing through the window.

The site was in walking distance of the beach and Molfre with a good pub and well stocked shop.

It was a good spot to tour Anglesey. With a little more TLC this could be a good site.

My family visited the campsite for 9 days in July, due to my wife having a week off we booked from Friday night until the following Sunday. Unfortunately being self employed I had to leave on the first Sunday and come back the following Friday, leaving my Wife with the 2 kids for the week. My son and daughter are 11 and 12 and not afraid of walking so the fact they had no car was irrelevant. From my 4 days at the site this is solely based on my view.

The first weekend the field we were in was quite busy but not over crowded and we had a satisfactory pitch, for those people that moan about their pitch and none of this and none of that, your camping, get over it, you want the Ritz then book the Ritz (Rant over).

Lligwy beach is a 5 to 10 minute walk away and the family spent nearly every single day there either just playing or swimming and loved every minute.

There is a small shop at the beach for ice creams and the likes but there is also a small village shop in Moelfre which took them about 25 minutes to walk to, when I was with them, it is a 5 minute car journey to Benllech which has all your normal shops like Spa, Cost cutter, chip shops etc.

The facilities on the site were spotless, the toilets and showers were cleaned daily and although a bit more expensive than other sites at 50p a shower, you had 6 minutes of lovely hot water.

The warden was seen most days around the site and if you needed more tokens, instead of having to go to the main office at Bodafon campsite (5 minute car journey), you could obtain then from him.

The second weekend was a little busier, with all but 1 electric hook up in our field taken and tents pitching in the middle of the field as well.

Only criticism there would be lack of play area for the kids with a ball or frisby but they managed and everybody was friendly, if they wanted a bigger area to play, as I said, the beach was 5 minutes away.

The only complaint I have is that on our field near to the electric hook up and the taps (which are located all around the field) there was a manhole cover which had been damaged by either a tractor cutting the grass or a vehicle of some sorts and every now and then we had the not so delightful odour of the main drains wafting into our trailer, this I am sure is a temporary thing and will be fixed within the near future. But that's camping for you.

Would definitely recommend if you are after secluded and will definitely be going back again.

I had booked for two nights on this site and was early on arrival. The office was closed, but I very easily contacted the owners on the phone and although not expected for two hours managed to find one of the owners at the site. There was only 1 EHU pitch available and I wasn't really happy with it, purely due to my preferences, so he gave me the option of two others on his neighbouring site. He was really helpful in trying to meet my needs.

The site seemed a little car parky for my liking.

The toilets looked fine, but I didn't use the showers at all, as after realising that you could stay overnight on the beach, I much preferred this option, as the view was fantastic and it is only £10 per unit per night.

I won't be returning to this site, although it is no fault of the personality and helpfulness of the owners, just not to my liking.

A fab location and wonderful staff and great facilities. The shower block and toilets were cleaned regular and the whole place was clean and tidy.

We stayed just for one night on this site and found everyone really friendly and nice.

The site was a really close to the beach less then 10 min walk and the main town was about 30 mins. The beach was lovely and has some great views.

The owner of the site (or should I say his son) was so helpful. It was a busy weekend and after trying a few other sites. He found us a spot in one of his feilds, the fee was a good price is you ask me.

Over all I would 100% stay at this site again just beacuse the people were so nice and helpful!

We have just returned from a 4night stay at Tyn Rhos. This was our second visit (the first in May 2010).

We thought we had booked a hard standing serviced pitch ( as last year ) but on arrival were simply informed, 'not on the booking' we were given a choice of two grass pitches and chose the most level.

On siting our Caravan there was an over whelming smell of Raw Sewage which lasted in waves all weekend meaning that we didn't sit out or BBQ.

Our electric hook up was away off and the warden did offer us an extension cable but we managed to reach it ( it was shared with 5 other units and at one point our cable was running under a tent.

There is no marked pitches and we ended up with a tent next to us that was virtually touching our van with its guylines. The fresh water stand pipe was at the top of the field and standing in an inch of mud.

The bins were overflowing with rubbish and the stench was found to be that behind the hedge from us was the septic tank.

The showers were cleanish, if you didn't mind showering with a couple of spiders, there was a novel idea of providing a mop and bucket to mop out once finished in the showers, but they ended dirtier after than before as the mop and water weren't clean. Showers worked on a token bought at 50p each and gave plenty of hot water.

Needless to say we wont be returning to Tyn Rhos in a hurry which is a shame as its location is fantastic

Site has a large number of static and seasonal touring pitches, then a small slightly sloped field for tourers. You have to check-in at a sister site, and then a warden meets you on arrival at Tyn Rhos. Other than meeting arrivals I didn't see the warden around, and no contact details were given for him, so I'm glad we didn't have any problems.

No amenities e.g. shop on-site, but village of Moelfre a few miles away has small grocery stores, fish & chip shop etc. The site does have a coin operated launderette.

Pitching in the touring field is haphazard; it was far from full but we struggled to find a spot as everyone had spread out so much; marked pitches would be better. Brand new toilet / shower block on site was spotlessly clean; 50p token for a 6 minute shower, always plenty of hot water.

Site is a 10minute walk from Lligwy beach along a country road. It is uphill on the way back so we opted to take the car down to avoid the walk with tired children, buckets, spades etc. Car park at beach £2.50 per day, or plenty of space to park on roadside. Beach is huge, lots of space for games, and dog-friendly.

Overall we would visit again for it's convenience to the beach, but there's something lacking in the hospitability of the staff.

We were initially only intending to stay for one week at the beginning of our August hols, then move back into Snowdonia to go walking up some big hills. However we were so beguiled by the place that we stayed for a fortnight.

Things we liked:

1. Its a huge site divided up into lots of fields surrounded by hedges, and so we found a quiet little spot, which we had mostly to ourselves, with great views uninterrupted by other tents or caravans.

2. Just 5 mins walk takes you onto the coastal path, with beautiful coves (like cornwall?), and wildlife- saw 'hen harrier', 'short eared owl' and 'seals' and half an hour to the 'White Eagle' pub which does great food and beer.

3. Just 5 mins walk into Treaddur Bay with its sandy beaches and other facilities- as well as gorgeous sunsets!

3. Just 5 mins drive to large supermarkets, which helped our self-catering.

6. Its really fast to get around Angelsey as a whole, because there just aren't many people here- so its a great place to explore.

7. Lots of locations for our Open Canoe to be dropped into the water- even more if you have a sit on or sea canoe.

8. Weather was brilliant, because the rain fell inland, not out here on the edge of Britain.

9. The campsite owners were just brill, and could not have been more helpful.

10. The facilities are basic, but kept scrupulously clean, and we never had to queue to use anything.

All in all. What's not to like!

We didn't use a hookup, nor did we take kids- so cannot comment about that. However many folk that we talked to had come as children and were still coming back as adults.

We stayed on this site over the August Bank holiday, meeting up with our friends and their family for the weekend.

The whole of the Anglesey coast offers great walking and views, so we were looking forward to being back for a few days, having spend a week earlier in the year camping at Fedw Uchaf which is a mile or 2 away from Tyn Rhos, near the Ferry boat Inn.

On booking at Tyn Rhos we were told that we would have to pay for a minimum of 4 nights for a hook up due to it being bank holiday ( quite how that works fairly escapes me, Friday, Saturday, Sunday night! Thats 3 nights isnt it?) However we accepted the condition on the basis that at £27. 50 per night (we paid out £110) for a small family tent with 2 adults we were going to get good value for money at a top notch site.

We were very disappointed when we arrived on the site which is mainly dedicated to statics and tourers with a bottom field for tents.

The camping field has no marked pitches for hook up tents and we initially had our electricity shared on a splitter with 2 other tents, although the warden did sort it the next day.

It was so tight for space that our guy ropes overlapped with the tent next to us.

The field is mostly slopping with only 3 or 4 levelish pitches near the new toilet block.

By Saturday afternoon the whole field was very crowded with tents and cars and would certainly benefit from having less tents and a planned layout.

The new shower block was very modern and clean, but having to pay 50p for a shower on top of an expensive pitch fee seemed a bit excessive. Although new, they are not very family friendly, lacking a changing area in the shower cubicles, so showering one or two small children would be a bit of a nightmare.

Dish washing facilities are limited to 2 sinks near the old shower blocks, but washing machines and driers are available along with a large fridge freezer for ice pack etc.

The site would benefit from a play area for children, as at busy times there is little space for them to play near the tents.

This was the first time we took our 6 and 4 year old girls camping and they really enjoyed it.

Because of it being high season and I only wanted to book two nights they could not offer me anything until a couple of days before travelling. I had to ring on the Wednesday to find out if I could book a pitch.

When we got to the camp site we found the owners very friendly and helpful.

The pitch was at the bottom of one of the fields and I would say it was quite a flat pitch considering there was a slight slope in the field. There was a small cabin for the toilet and a shed for the washing up your pots. This was very handy for trips to the toilet at night.

The main toilet and shower block is up at the reception with also washing up facilities there.

As the weekend continued the weather got worse. Saturday was a bad night with gusting winds which battered the tent. Early that day we were on the beach with the kids which was a 3 min walk through the field through the beech car park. It was Sunny with a slight breeze and not that warm for July.

This is a great camp site. The hook up area had flat bays, very handy, and the field we were in was sloping. There are mini supermarkets around Molefre and Benlech for food.

Although our short stay was only for two nights in high season it was a quiet place. The kids had only just starting breaking up from school. We recommend this place and would call back again soon I hope. I do hope the weather improves for the campers
