We've used this place a couple of times en route home from Italy or Southern France. Perfectly good for a stopover, especially now that is has a pool, (indoor too).
Very easy to find, close but not too close to the motorway network. Peaceful with just a small amount of nearby traffic noise.
Very friendly staff, small bar, normal bakery products can be bought on order.
We will be stopping over with a view to visiting Laon itself this year.

Laon is a delightful medieval town and the site is on the edge of it but set in rural seclusion beside a lake. The pitches varied in shape and size, sun and shade, and were not always defined. It was a municipal until 2014 and the new owners have installed a very small swimming pool.
There is only one shower block which is quite a trek from the bottom end of the site and there are only two water points and one of them was not working. The shooting range referred to in an earlier report only disturbed us for about an hour a day. Next to reception is a bar which closes at 9o'clock. Bread is available to order. It made a very handy stop about five miles from the A26 and Laon is definitely worth a visit.

This site would be lovely if it wasn't next to a shooting range. Shotguns going off all day. The cafe/bar is just a basic shack, a long walk into town. It is ok as a stopover. We had a lovely walk into the old town, but it is not for the infirm.

Stopped here for an overnighter on the way home from motorcycle touring. We're made very welcome and were directed to flat, easy to peg pitches with plenty of mature tree shade, which was needed in 30+c heat. Found the site by looking up 'accommodation/ camping' in my old Garmin, and it took us straight to it. Clean toilets, showers and quiet site. (No playground). Was met by a retired couple who were on their way south, and the first thing he done was offer us cold beers from his caravan fridge. Dave, Linda, wherever you are, hope your trip went well, we will be eternally grateful for them beers.
It's not a 'destination site', more of a pleasant stopover point. Would I use it again? Hell yeah. Cost around €7. 5 per night for motorcycle and tent. And with a Carrefoure only a mile away, great. I've only marked it down as 1 for child friendliness as there are no playground facilities which is great for people who want peace and quiet.

Straightforward site, generous flat pitches, decent shower/toilet block. We stayed 2 nights using this as a base to explore Laon and Lieseux. Were pretty happy with site - I was woken one night at the dead of night by pounding music coming from some distance away, and the nearby road is busy during the early morning and daytimes, but otherwise peaceful.
Staff were helpful and informative. The epicerie is now just Ice Creams as they apparently couldn't compete with ALDI and Carrefour in town. Would definitely use this site again for a short stay.

I am surprised at the review by SG Thomas. This is a site we overnight from Calais. The toilet block is always spotless. The poor fittings mentioned is not what we have experienced. There's a motorhome service point close to the entrance.
Mature trees are a welcome around the site on a hot day. The pitches are generous and hedged.
The site is a convenient for the motorway and the RN roads for travellers South.
This not for long stay families as there are no playground facilities, as is found in all Municipal camp sites.

We arrived quite late as we couldn't find the motor home aire in the town but still made welcome. Found the site at the end of a long road that seemed to be going nowhere. Pleasantly surprised that level pitches separated by hedges all had electric hook ups (hidden in the hedge). Large toilet block with adequate facilities. Bread can be ordered at reception but didn't arrive in time for our early start the next day. All in all a convenient overnight stop.

WE were there some 2 years after Dargy's review and it would seem that nothing has been done. The sanitary block was hosed down in the morning and that was that. The fixtures and fittings were loose, broken or missing.
The hedges were clipped a bit to prevent poking in people's eyes and the whole site had a feeling of neglect.
The 'warden' who differed in the morning or afternoon, would be a student wanting to improve language skills.
There is no bread/shopping within walking distance.
The old city of Laon is interesting but the tourist office seemed more interested in selling guided tours than offering information.
We had intended to stay 3 nights but left after 1. At 14 euro a night (2 people, unit, ehu) this is vastly overpriced.
If travelling that way, go to the municipal in Sezanne instead

Used this municipal as an overnight on the way south and we were not disappointed plus it's only about 10 mins from the motorway. The pitches are very generous and very private with tall hedges around 3 sides and hook ups to most.
The facilities were better than they looked and clean enough making Camping de la Chenaie an ideal night halt. There are supermarkets and fuel close by and the medieval part of Laon is on top of a hill and makes a pleasant place to either eat or stroll in the evening. Recommended.

This is a very nice municipal site, situated to the west of the town. From J13 of the M26, follow 'Centre Ville' for about 6 miles and turn right at the roundabout where you see the 'camping' sign. If you are relying on sat nav, don't turn right at the last roundabout as it will tell you, it's actually left down the hill. If you go wrong, turn back at the roundabout on the hill top and you will see the camping sign coming back down the road.
The lane to the site is a bit rough looking, rusty cars and a a large concrete bunker, but once past these eysores, you will be pleasantly surprised. The site has individual hedged pitches, good facilities and is surrounded by woods, lots of bird song.
It cost us EUR 14.90, I suppose it's more in high season. It doesn't have a swimming pool which would have been welcome.
The town itself is lovely, the old part is set on a hill; you can see the cathedral for miles as you drive down the A26.The cathedral is floodlit at night and the views are extensive, it would be worth more than just a 1 nighter.
