Just returned from a short weekend break and I must say the site is in a fantastic location. The village of Beer is one of the prettiest we have seen. The site is mainly a static caravan park but has recently upgraded a few pitches for motorhomes, touring caravans, camper vans and tents and they have done a wonderful job. All pitches are flat and level, but there are two pitches for motorhomes & caravans that have a bit of a rise up to them, so check your clearance before attempting, but once negotiated, they offer wonderful sights across the bay. The clean and modern toilet block is right opposite the pitches and all the electric & water points are very close. Most have grey waste points as well. Just a short downhill walk into Beer for all the village amenities, the local pub being the first. All in all a lovely site but the only thing is they do not reserve pitches, so you have to take your chance. Best to phone before you leave to check availability. Definitely worth a visit (but beware of the hills!)

Spent a week at the start of Sept. , our 5th time at Beer Head.
Lovely clean comfortable caravan, beautiful views as ever, and nice weather. Excellent walks for our little dogs.
The site is kept in excellent condition at all times by Matt and the rest of the staff.
The meals from the shop, which is run independently from the site are lovely and tasty.
Perhaps the gentleman who runs it could hone his people skills a bit but hey none of us are perfect, LOL.
See you next year Beer Head.

Well I must have gone to wrong site, it was huge not small! Like a small town! Plus a small sloping area for too many tents, squashed in. No flat standing for motorhome either. I parked behind what I thought was reception, lady was cooking, asked where to park, somewhere round there she said unhelpfully. Man was there he disappeared out back. I asked a couple of more questions and left. There was a black ford Ka blocking my motor home in, my partner went back in and asked if it could be moved, no I am at work, move the picnic table! It was the man that disappeared. I struggled get out, he then appeared and lent on his car and watched me struggle to get out of small space. I mentioned he was not working but watching me struggle. He was offensive. I say no more. Would not stay there if it was free.

Management response: Thank you for spending the time to review our park.
The shop and the camping area have both been updated this year (2014), which we hope is a great improvement. The Shop which has always been let out to tenants is now a Bistro as well, with great views across the park. Importantly it is under new management, and to date we have had nothing but great reviews of the food and the service.
We have re-landscaped and tiered the camping area this winter. Each camper will now have their own plot for tenting and we have level hard standings for touring caravans and motorhomes. Water and electric is available. Again to date people have given us great feedback.
We are still not taking bookings for the camping area, working on a first come first serve basis but will give it this season to collect all the feed back with regards to making any more changes.
We hope the improvements we have made in the last couple of years are helpful: all roads have now been renewed, a new TV transponder means perfect TV reception (in a particularly difficult area), rainwater capture for toilet flushing and solar panels to improve our carbon footprint, the new lodges and of course the bistro and terraced camping area.
Once again many thanks for everyone's reviews; the comments are helpful and the support is encouraging. |

We have just got back from a fabulous 4 night break camping in our tent at Beer Head.
If you are looking for complete escape from hectic life and work this is the place to go!
I doubt very much you will find a camp site with better views! There was nothing more relaxing than coming out from the tent every morning to the most spectacular views of the sea (even if the sun wasn't shining)
Pitching up is a bit of a free for all, there are no allocated pitches so arrive early or on a non busy day! we arrived on a Thursday afternoon and had our pick of the whole tent area! By Saturday evening the field was pretty much full!
Also the camping area is on a hill! So get there early so you can pick out the flattest patch of grass!
The toilet block is right next to the tent area and lit well enough that we never needed our torch for popping to the loo late at night! toilets were also spotless and very nice, they seemed brand new or at least recently built.
Shower block was up a big steep hill but it was all part of the fun! The showers could do with updating and are a little bit old fashioned - however none the less they did the job and were perfect temperature!
A few people have mentioned about the 50p, yes you do need 50p coin to operate the showers however I found this was plenty of time even for hair washes and shaving legs!
If I had to say only one negative about the site I would say it is not suitable for people who arnt very mobile due to the amount of hilly walking required to get around the campsite.
But if it wasn't for the hills you wouldn't have such fantastic views of the sea every morning!
For kids, there is no camp site club house! But I grew up coming to Beer Head every year! You just have to go back to the old school and let the kids make their own fun! There were plenty of kids who seemed completely entertained all day long with a just a pack of water balloons!
Fantastic time and cant wait to go back!

Lovely little campsite right on the south Devon coast. As the other reviews have said, it is geared more for static caravans, but we had no problem finding a pitch large enough for three tents and were able to park right next to our tents, but I can see that in busy times you may have to plan where you are going to park as there is no on road parking or car park nearby.
The Pros
- Wonderful views - truly magnificent surroundings. Easy access to Beer and the coastal path that leads to Branscombe in the opposite direction.
- Lovely clean toilet blocks with a power point should you wish to use a hairdryer, straighteners or even charge your phone!
-Very friendly staff in the shop. They stock all the essentials and the prices are quite reasonable. They also serve food, on real plates! On Sunday I also saw people pre-ordering Sunday lunches. Other food available in the shop includes fresh catches of the day such as crab, lobster and various types of fish.
-You can pay by credit/debit card at the office.
The Cons
- It's very hilly (but hey, this is a cliff top campsite!)
- The office is right at the entrance to the site, i. E. At the very top of the hill
- The shower block is also right at the top entrance to the site. They are a little dated but perfectly clean and spacious inside. Operated by 50p coin token meters.
Overall I'd definitely recommend this site to others - just please don't tell everyone otherwise there won't be any room!

This camp site is situated on the top of the hill just outside the village of Beer and the views across the coast towards Seaton is spectacular. However, tents tend to be squeezed in where there is a space and getting your car near your tent for unpacking/packing can be difficult.
The toilets are plenty and kept clean. The showers are quite a hike up the hill and are quite expensive at 50p but you do get enough time for a good wash. There is a shop on site that sells ready plated meals and even cooks bacon baps for your breakfast if you cannot be bothered to do this for yourself!
A nice site overall, perfectly situated for exploring this area.

We've always loved Beer - hubby stayed there as a child and we've stayed many time as a family, sometimes in holiday cottages in the village.
I was really shocked at the price - £23 per night for a 6-berth tent (2 adults & 2 young children in our party) Tent only - not using electrical hook-up.
Showers 50p but you need £1 to rinse off, even if you wash really fast!
We're looking for somewhere cheaper nearby this year.
Lovely position for a campsite; little shop very handy.
Long walk down into village. Not good if you're elderly or unfit - especially the steep walk back!

Just come back from 4 days away at this caravan park.We stayed in our tent, this site is mostly statics, there is a small camping area near the shop. They wont take bookings on camping so you turn up and see whats available. We had a good pitch with hook up.There are around 4 level areas for tents, we had campervans either side, this place is worth going for the views.Stunning, we got up early for the sunrise over the water, views out to seaton.Great walks along the coast, Beer is 5 mins walk with pubs and a fish & chip shop and an Indian Resturant.
The staff were great and very friendly its family owned and run and probably the most casual place we've been to.No pressure, relaxed approached to the customers, welcoming and warm. We paid £7 per night per adult + £2 hook up. The toilet block looks new and immaculate, the showers are older and run on 50p's and are adequate. There is a site shop selling all the usual stuff. We had our 4 yr old lad with us, there is a green area to play. There is a small park in Beer, with a slide etc but 10mins walk to Pecorama with trains and fun areas and a great cafe.Overall we were pleased with the site and will return next year.

Beer Head Caravan Park is a nice place to stay for a holiday and I have been coming to Beer since I was a lad for around 30 years with my parents & now with my Fiancee. I have stayed in Private static vans on site in the past & recently in a tent over couple of years. The Tent & Camper van & Touring Caravan area is very small and can get cramped at peak times in the season. It can also get noisy & crowded at these times with many family groups camping on the small site. The Field is also slightly slopping and the best pitches are on the odd few small level pitches just above the main camping area. There are also the odd Electric hookup point for electric. Best to park your car on the very edge of the field next to the road as it could get blocked in by tents. The site caters for mostly Private Resident Caravan owners & Holiday Static Vans for hire. Recently Toilet & Wash Block for Campers have been up graded with new toilets & sinks. The Laundrette & Shower block are old and maybe next to be upgraded by the site. Showers cost 50p not sure on how much the Washer & Dryers cost in the Laundrette as I have not used them. The site shop provides a good range of essential items for sale from tin food to news papers and stuff. They also cook Great food to order & have an extensive menu at very reasonable prices. The campsite is very hilly as situated on Beer Head Cliffs with walks along the cliff top to Branscombe Beach or you can walk down the hill to Beer Village. The village has three main Pubs the Anchor, Barrel o Beer & The Dolphin Hotel all providing good Beer & Food. There are many Gift shops in the village & a local Chippy, Though the fish and chips are just as good N cheaper! There are Beach cafes & a Fishmongers where you can get fresh fish on the beach. You can also go Deep sea fishing or hire a self drive boat for mackerel fishing.Pectorama model railway & gardens is a great day out for the family & kids will also have fun in the rock pools on Beer Beach. Seaton the main town is around 1m away with free parking on the sea front for a max of two hours. Just enough time to buy cream donuts from the bakery and have a stroll along Seaton sea front. Enjoyed our visits to Beer Head Caravan Park. John & Tracey

No advance booking and (very) tight access (ignore the 6ft width restriction sign on the hill up to the site, it is passable with a caravan) might put a lot of people off but the views from this site are simply sensational.
While the camping field is mainly for tents and small campers there are limited hook ups available, and if you have a small caravan well worth a try for an out of season stay. Remember to bring lots of levelling blocks however as the field slopes quite steeply.
Beer itself is a lovely little spot with great pubs and several restaurants to choose from, though I can imagine it becomes quite overcrowded in the peak summer months.
