Thanks for a lovely visit to your campsite. We stayed on Thursday March 8th till Sunday March 11th. Sun sun and more sun. Who would have thought it at this time of year, and in Wales.
John was very friendly. Welcoming. Nothing too much trouble.
Toilets and showers always clean. If not a tad cold when you first went in, but soon warmed up once the shower on, which was lovely and hot. Nice big room too.
Ideal campsite for visiting Abergavenny, bus stop outside site, two of us and two dogs £10.
We walked to the iron works round the corner, and up the hill. Lovely walk. Also walked to Gilwern, only 20mins. Lush fish and chip shop. Pubs did not open much, couple of hours lunch time, then from 4.30 onwards. Still early season eh.
Also walked along the canal, very nice. Good pint in the Bridge Inn. Drove to Crickhowell. Another fantastic walk and pub.
All in all a very pleasant stay.

I stayed at this site with three friends in October 2011 and it was really good. We had three smallish tents and 1 4x4 vehicle. The site was clean and well drained and the toilet/shower block was very clean.
We stayed 2 nights and used it as a base for walking. A short trip by car found us in Abergavenny where there are plenty of places for food/drink
Good site, would use again despite a little traffic noise as the site is between two roads.

I visited this site on Friday 30th of September intending to stay until Sunday 2nd of October.
The owner was welcoming and helpful, he gave me a leaflet on the area and explained how to access local walks.
I pitched my tent on a flat space and settled in.
The site is triangular in shape and the broad end, where the entrance is, was full of caravans. It is primarily a caravan site, the site office and the shower/toilet block are at that end too. I pitched up one side of the triangle and on the night I stayed 4 other tents arrived too.
The site is attractive, surrounded by trees and grassy with a stream running past. The toilet block is spacious and clean, the showers and taps all worked fine and there was plenty of loo paper.
It says on the advert for the site that there's road noise, but I found the noise much worse than I'd anticipated; the main A road didn't quieten down until about 2 am and restarted by 5am, the back road which looked to be quiet was very busy until midnight and also picked up again early in the morning.
I got very little sleep so I left on the Saturday morning. The camp owner had told me he'd be around the site in the morning, but hadn't appeared by 0930 when I left so I left my site fee with another family pitched nearby.
I should have paid more attention to other reviews that said this was a noisy site, but I didn't. The site is also very small which made it feel crowded even when at less than full capacity.
If you're with a small group and come from a big city you'll probably enjoy the place more than I did.

Back again and found the camp site was still great!
John remembered us and we had another very warm welcome. Thanks John, you have a fantastic site :)
The toilet block was exceptionally clean again, we pitched in a different area of the site which was less stony.
This time there was a resident warden on site, who was helpful, friendly and we feel we have made a good friend in John, Brian and Jude.
The weather was good to us and we visited a few more of the local museums, all free admission with a small charge for car parking.
St Fagans in Cardiff - fantastic whole day out, lots of walking.
Big Pit - good for a half day visit
Abergavenny castle - good for a hour visit while you are shopping.
Lovely walk from the local village to a church and back, steep in places but it was circular so you had great new views all the time.
This is a great camp site, we will be back and would recommend it.

Wow what a fantastic site. The site owner was wonderfully friendly and helpful. This was our first attempt at camping with the family including my 3 autistic children and I must say I could not be more impressed. Yes there is a little traffic noise but it wasn't enough to bother us The toilet/shower block was cleaned daily and was wonderfully well equipped with a dressing room and book lending service in the ladies and a stereo in the gents. Also lots of magazines and information leaflets readily available there. The site has easy access to some wonderful walks and views and there is a pathway leading directly to the stream that is safe for the kids to go paddle ect. There is no play facilities but the site really does not need it with all the exploring the little ones can do. The ground was quite rocky where we chose to pitch next to the taps but we really wanted the electricity hook up and didn't have an extension cable. Totally impressed with the site as a whole and even my tent hating husband seams to have changed his tune we will definitely be returning next year. PS I really recommend a trip to the big pit a wonderful day out for all the family.

Just come back from a stay at this camp, we took the tent for a 3 night basic stay just to break up the school holidays, and I am really pleased that we did. What a great place, very friendly and helpful people :) I have 3 children age 15, 10 and 6 who loved the walks near the camp and not once did thy moan I AM BORED ! As we were leaving the camp my children kept asking if we can go back real soon and the answer is YES ! We will definitely be going back great place to stay P, S you get used to the traffic noise:)

We have just returned from this lovely camp site.
Thank you John for keeping the site so clean and tidy.
The toilet block was exceptional, very clean and ample of room for all. The lights came on automatically when you went in and at night the outside lights switched on at dusk and stayed on all night. There are 4 showers (1 mens, 1 ladies and 2 mixed), very clean and hot water, this number is great for the small camp site (20 pitches).
On arrival we had a warm welcome from John and was provided with a sheet that contained local information on supermarkets and restaurants/pubs and a map with local information on circular walks in the area. There is plenty of information about places to visit and books/magazines and CDs you can borrow.
Although the road is close, which is highlighted on the website, we didn't find the noise a problem, you don't notice it after a night!
The location is great for walking, visiting the welsh attractions (many of which are free entry) and with a large market in Abergavenny for shopping.
It is obvious that John enjoys meeting people and tend to the site with care and attention.
We had a relaxing time and would recommend the site so much that we have already booked to go back later in the year.

We have just returned from a 5 day break at this campsite. The weather was extraordinarily kind to us and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We picked this site to test out our new tent and EHU set-up, as well as to celebrate our daughter's 10th birthday before the Easter rush.
It is a small site with an extremely clean and spacious shower block. Yes, there is road noise but this is to be expected because a) it is very close to a main road and b) it says there will be road noise on the website. This is more than compensated for by the friendly owner (thank you, John for your endless patience with our over-enthusiastic 8 year old son!) and the abundance of places to visit in the area.
The shower block has two unisex family shower rooms which were great for getting our grubby children cleaned. In addition there are mens' and women's toilets with a shower room in each. They are extremely spacious and spotlessly clean.
We spent a day at Caerphilly Castle which we found great value for money and our three children loved. There is a vast selection of days out within a short drive and we are looking forward to returning next year.
Over all, a site offering great value for money in a lovely part of Wales.

We visited the site in early September and enjoyed our stay. The site is small and cosy and has a clean and tidy utility block with 2 family shower rooms and a gents and ladies area with more showers.
We enjoyed the walks and scenery of the area and would recommend the site if you are interested in the local history.
The local bus to Abergavenny stops outside the entrance and is was great to forget the car and visit this lovely town.
Although 2 busy roads border the site the traffic noise quietens down at night and we didn't find it a problem.

Paid first visit to this site & stayed for three nights across long weekend. Positive points: new shower block, which is kept nice & clean (could perhaps do with a brighter light at entrance, as we found it to be very dark at night)
Owner very helfpul and flexible with regard to choice of pitch.
Negative points: this site is situated just off very busy main road, which runs alongside one side of entire site. On other side of site runs another relatively busy road, which is very close to site & again runs along entire length of site.
Our unit was pitched adjacent to this road, which was certainly no further that 8 metres from where we were pitched. Usually a certain amount of traffic noise is not a problem for us, but we found this close proximity too extreme.
Would we use this site again? Probably not. However, this site would perhaps suit those who need a one night stop-over en route.
