Me and my Boyfriend first went to this Campsite in September 2012, and LOVED it. It's so private, and the view of the valley and hills is amazing. We thought the lay out was amazing. The chairs, benches, tables, kitchen area, chimneys, extra tent, sports games, swing. The family are so friendly and were helpful if we needed anything.
We enjoyed cooking for ourselves and even got to meet the horse and two donkeys that live in the wooded bit behind the campsite.
We went for a walk into the woods and took the long way into Abbeydore which took quite a few hours but the walk was worth it. It gave me a chance to do some Photography, and we enjoyed the beautiful sights along the way.
We got into Abbeydore when nothing was open so walked another ten minute to a pub where the staff are so friendly and the food is fantastic.
The second time we went there was October for my Eighteenth birthday. It was even better than out first time, and they had a second chimney so we were so warm! They let us rent out the whole campsite so that had it all to ourselves for the party and even gave me a birthday card! We cooked our own bbq, had a laugh and even let of some fireworks with the permission of Ann.
I will definitely go back here when it gets warmer again, the family our so friendly and we had more than we needed both time. I highly recommend trying it out!
We just want to say a huge thank you to Ann and her family for giving us such an amazing time and making us feel so at home!

A little gem for campers who appreciate wonderful views, peaceful countryside and star-gazing.
Camping is on a wide strip of springy, mown grass overlooking a pretty meadow with stupendous views of the Black Mountains and Skirrid beyond. The enclosed wooded area behind gives the choice of welcome shade if needed and had two donkeys and a pony in when we visited. We heard numerous owls in the night and saw swooping swallows in the day.
We enjoyed using the picnic tables, swing and chimerea and appreciated the spotless portable loo type toilet.
We were made very welcome by the friendly and helpful owners and their delightful children. Before leaving we did a walk they suggested which passed a Cider Mill where you can buy cider made on the premises. Plenty of other walking on the doorstep.
No pubs close by but we can recommend the characterful Dog Inn in Ewyas Harold for good home-cooking and friendly staff and locals.

This is a great site for anyone who loves the countryside and takes delight in basic camping. The pitches are on a mown strip at the top of a large, sloping field with woods behind and amazing views in front. This is a fantastic place simply to be! You can sit and relax, or play, or have a walk, or observe the wildlife, or just enjoy being at one with the world.
A range of outdoor games equipment is provided along with some benches and chairs, and a chiminea (see the photos on their website). The single portaloo is clean, odour-free and does the job just fine. Additional drinking water will be provided in containers brought up from the farm if the tap at the entrance to the field isn't delivering the water quick enough. Washing up water is available from a water butt near the tent pitches.
Make no mistake, this is not a campsite for people who like 'facilities'. It is however a superb natural campsite. Eric and Ann are a pleasure to talk to and they take great pleasure in sharing this special place with their visitors. They manage the bookings so that it is never too busy (so remember to book in case you turn up and the site is full) and if you are in a group with a few tents you are likely to have the site to yourselves.
Not much more to say, except that it is situated in a wonderful area and there are loads of things to do nearby to suit all tastes: wonderful walking country in both gentle farmland and across mountains and moorland; Hay-On-Wye for shops and eating places; and of course the River Wye.
All in all a great site!

If you enjoy basic camping, then this could be the perfect site for you. The site is at the top of a hill, well away from the farm, with an amazing view out across rolling countryside to The Skirrid and The Black Mountain. We went to sleep to the hooting of owls, and woke in the morning to the mewing of buzzards. Tents can be pitched along a mown strip of grass looking down over flowery meadows, and backing onto a wood. We did have to look quite hard, though, before we found a pitch that was comfortable and level enough for our tent.
For most of our stay we, two adults and a dog, were the only campers, which added to the charm of the experience. Our dog, Bess, loved having the freedom to lie out in the sun wherever she wanted, and the woods behind our tent offered interesting walks.
The facilities really are basic. There is an immaculately kept portaloo at the top of the hill, and a cold tap a little lower down the track. As the tap is gravity-fed, the water supply can be slow in dry weather. However, we were also supplied with drinking water from the farm whenever we needed it.
If the prospect of infrequent washing is a little too daunting, there is also a bucket and a large black plastic barrel containing washing water. The water tended to warm up during the day, making late afternoon the best time for a rinse.
Wooden chairs and a picnic-table were also provided, as well as a chiminea garden stove and a huge pile of wood for burning. We enjoyed its flames as we stayed up to watch the stars, which really are amazing on a clear night. Although we had no need to use them, there was a home-made volleyball / badminton net with rackets and balls provided.
The campsite owners are friendly and helpful, and there are a fridge and freezer down by the farm which they let us use. The nearest shop, an excellent grocery store, is at Ewyas Harold where there are also a couple of pubs and a very good fish-and-chip shop. Cider drinkers will enjoy the Abbey Dore Farm Shop selling award-winning Gwatkin Ciders and Perries.
The area is full of excellent walks, though a good map is often required to be certain of the course of the footpaths. We particularly enjoyed the 12th century carvings at Kilpeck Church and the Gardens at Kentchurch Court which are currently being restored after some fifty years of neglect.

Wow ! If you like basic camping ( 1 portaloo, no shower), in beautiful surroundings in total peace and quiet - then this is it. A long cut strip of field looking out towards the black mountains and the golden valley - the views are spectacular. We were the only people camping in a group of 5 (and a dog who loved it), so this was perfect. Bbq and cooking area under the trees which was great but not sure how well it would cope with a large number of campers. Anne and Eric who run the site could not have been more helpful and they let you use the fridge in their garage. There are beautiful woods you can walk in behind the field and lovely friendly donkeys. Excellent walking- Abbeydore is great to walk to and has an lovely tea room. This beautiful site really is in the middle of nowhere so if you need pubs, shops and bustle you will have to drive but then I guess this is not the site for you ! Will definitely be back.

This is a fantastic campsite and we will definitely go back. The view is amazing - a lovely one of the Skirrid Mountain and countryside around. In the evening there were very few lights in the whole panorama - just from a couple of farms. The campsite is at the top of a field looking down a beautiful meadow onto the view.
We were the only ones there when we went - had the whole place to ourselves - as the site had only just opened. Complete privacy.
Basic facilities, but that was all we needed and wanted. Picnic table very useful. Donkeys in fenced off woodland behind very entertaining!
We had a wonderfully warm welcome from the family who were about 300yds away in the farmhouse.
Excellent walking around as well as nearby picturesque villages and the abbey - and a great tea shop - in Abbey Dore.
