This is probably the best UK site we have ever stayed on.
Lovely location and run efficiently and discreetly.
The facilities are clean and all worked well, although when busy a short wait may be necessary to use them. (Some people may moan about 50p for a shower, but we saw it as a good way to stop people hogging them).
Brecon is a 10 minute walk and the busy little centre has a refreshingly lively feel, virtually devoid of the usual charity and mobile phone shops, with a large Morrisons and thankfully an Aldi!
Because Brecon is in the Usk Valley there are plenty of gentle walks and cycle rides from the site, but you're still close enough to the major peaks, to avoid using the car.
Unfortunately no eggs were available for sale during our visit because the hens had been visited by an unknown predator, although four newly acquired layers should resolve this.
If you want a really lovely location, peace and quiet, as well as good facilities, Priory Mill is for you.
I've given the Site Facilities 9 and not a 10, purely because a few more loos and showers wouldn't go amiss.
I've given the site a 10 for Child Friendliness not because it has a play area etc, (which it hasn't), but because it has fields, a river, wildlife in abundance, chickens wandering around, camp fires, log seats, no tv, no video games, and huge opportunity for them to discover and learn from means that don't need a plug or a screen.
If you want lively, noisy, organised entertainment etc, this is not for you.

I've just returned from 2 nights at Priory Mill Farm, and what a lovely break we had.
It's a really peaceful, tranquil site, set between a stream and a fairly quiet road. We camped on the bank. The water is fairly fast flowing which keeps down the flies, and we weren't bothered. The white noise from the river was also amazingly soothing at night. I didn't even notice any sounds from the road all weekend, but my friend said she was aware of traffic occasionally but it was never bothersome.
The owners have clearly put a lot of thought and effort into the site and their attention to detail is marvellous. They provide fire pits, chopped wood, charcoal, log seats, washing up liquid and scourers in the dishwashing area, mops outside the showers, a complete recycling centre etc. The toilet/shower block was small, but plenty large enough and beautifully clean. The grass was beautifully maintained - it probably helped that no cars were allowed on the grass, but they provided nice wheelbarrows to transport stuff the short distance from the car park. Another nice touch was a large OS map, centered on Brecon, on display next to the toilet block. I really could not have asked for more from a campsite!
While I accept that people look for different things in a campsite, it's pretty clear that this is intended to be a quiet, fairly basic site and in that it EXCELS! There are lots of rules, but they're about common decency - cleaning up after yourselves, keeping the noise down at night etc. I notice some reviewers complained about some rules, e. G. Using only their supplied firewood - I don't think this is about making more money - but rather about ensuring that nobody is burning stuff likely to smoke out their neighbours.
I have to say that the environment fostered by the owners was VERY welcome. I felt it fostered a spirit of mutual respect amongst the campsite users, and I don't believe I've ever been anywhere where EVERYONE was as polite and considerate as here. All too often at campsites I have had to wear earplugs at night in order to keep out the noise of people watching TV, listening to music or simply sitting around a fire talking loudly into the small hours. Here it was so peaceful.
After three lovely, relaxing days here I've come away with a sense of sadness and can't wait to come back.
So read the website, and if that sounds like your kind of place, IT IS! If you want crowds, entertainments and like to party into the small hours STAY AWAY!

Wow-another wonderful visit to this fantastic campsite.
Seasoned campers & this is one of the nicest/picturesque & friendly sites we have stayed at.
Showers/toilets always kept immaculate-great hot showers 50p.
Sitting round campfire in evening-looking at the stars with the sound of the river in background-what more could you want!
Will definitely be back in the spring time.
Lainey & Will.

Great location 10 mins walk from Brecon town. Facilities basic only 2 ladies toilets and 2 showers which cost 50p for 3 mins for a few drops of water but it is hot! Only cold water to wash your pot and pans etc. Can buy their logs for your nightly campfire and borrow a firetray from the owners highlight of the site

An absolutely idyllic site next to the river and only 10 minutes walk into Brecon. We didn't use the car all week. The owners are very friendly and are always happy to help. The fire pits are fantastic and it is great to see everyone at night sitting around the fire outside their tent. The toilet block was always immaculate. Will definitely go back.

A really lovely campsite. Good location outside but within reach of Brecon centre, and a riverside setting.
The owners know just what campers want - clean facilities but not fuss, bother and too much formality. You can light fires in the free fire pits, use their BBQs and they even provide log stools. Loos and shows are immaculate and that is reflected in the care campers take when using them.
It made for a really great weekend and we will certain be returning.

Lovely location near brecon, went on jazz weekend
Unfortunately our experience of this site was overshadowed by the rules and regulations which you are given on entering the site and reminded of even on things like filling water carriers. Do not spill water
My elderly mother joined us the first evening for a bbq by the tent. She parked off site as the owner had said that parking was difficult but we were quickly told that 'you are not allowed visitors', and that they usually charge. I Can understand if were were having a party but this was 2 elderly people
The site had only 2 showers for about 50 tents and the 50p you needed to put into the meter often didn't work, the notice said to inform the office but when you are stripped naked??
Yes the logs and firepits are a lovely touch but compared to the other sites we visit, our weekend was tainted and did not turn out to be the relaxing event we had imagined in such an idylic setting

Just returned from wonderful week camping at priory mill farm.
Idyllic setting-tent pitched at river bank-perfect.
Really friendly owners-hi/thanks.
Lovely touches-logs to sit on, camp fire grates provided.
10 minute stroll into brecon-shops, pubs etc.
Totally chilled/relaxed week-couple of days did, nt even leave campsite!
Would totally recommend this campsite to all happy campers-we are already planning next visit.

Spent 3 nights at this campsite and would definitely go back again. Flat site running along side the river with lots of trees, road didn't bother us at all. Owners on site are very friendly and helpful. Used a fire pit and wood good value and burnt well, lovely to sit by it in the evening listening to river, owls and looking at the stars. Chickens were friendly - have missed them since we got home! Site wasn't full so wasn't a problem to us that there were only 2 showers, but wouldn't therefore go in the busy season, however wouldn't go anywhere then anyway! As we do like to cook at least 1 or 2 nights wasn't great that the washing up area only had a cold tap, for that reason I couldn't give the site a perfect 10. On the plus side there is a line to hang up towels etc for drying. There's also a freezer for ice blocks and food. Didn't find it a problem that the lights in the shower/toilet block went out at night (said 10. 30 but was more like 11. 00 pm, just timed using them before they went out!) I had no problem getting a signal for my mobile phone either. Easy 10 minute walk into town and would recommend The George for an evening meal, you can sit outside or in a cosy, light conservatory. The cathedral is definitely worth a visit and the cafe there also serves delicious food. We hired a small motor boat for half a day along the canal and it was totally relaxing and very pretty. There are 2 golf courses nearby too. Everyone we met locally were very friendly. Look forward to going again hopefully next year.

Stayed here for a couple of nights on our way back from motorcycle touring in Snowdonia. Great communication from Susie via email, prior to our stay. The site is in a great location, only a 10 minute walk from Brecon, yet far enough from the town to feel secluded and quiet. I found the adjacent road to be no problem at all, with very little road noise, hardly noticeable, I fell asleep to the sound of the river. The site is compact and bijou, so pre- booking in the high season is essential. We chose the site for it's location, river and fire pits which we cooked our food on.
Despite being next to water we encountered very few midges which was a huge bonus.
Unfortunately on one of the days it poured with rain, so we made the best of it by visiting the cafe recommended by Susie. The 'Pilgrims Cafe' at Brecon Cathedral is the place for a full english. It was delicious and a bargain at £3. 50, the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. We then explored Brecon town and adjourned to a pub until the rain had subsided late afternoon. The following day the sun was out and it was a glorious day so we toured the Black Mountains. The site is great, but I am docking a star for the showers. There are only two, they are a tad temperamental and have a habit of swallowing your 50p and not giving you hot water first! I don't have a problem with paying 50p for a shower and the money going to charity, but make the shower a powerful one rather than a disappointing dribble.
Cold water to wash pots and pans was a bit disappointing, that also needs addressing. Other than those two minor points, we had a great stay, enjoyed seeing the free range chickens as others have mentioned and enjoyed the pollution free, no noise campsite. Would definitely recommend and stay again.
