Just spent an awesome weekend in the new tipi at the Secret Garden Touring Park. Lesley and Neil truly are the kindest campsite owners we have ever met in our 9 years of camping, nothing is too much trouble.
The tipi is amazing and HUGE! The wood burner is a great asset for typical English summer evenings when we would retreat inside for hot choc, games and toasted marshmallows!
There's a fire pit too for cooking outside.
The showers are lovely and new and Lesley and Neil are on hand for anything you need.
Great beer and sausages too available on site too, what more can you ask for?!Recommending the site to my friends and would have no hesitation in returning.

This is a really lovely site, obviously run by people who understand camping. We stayed on a garden pitch which was totally secluded and surrounded by beautiful planting. Every pitch has electric hook up and a tap together with a light which stays on 24 hours ( be careful how you pitch your tent as I had the light shining in my bedroom and had to do some creative covering of it with tea towels and string).
The showers are lovely and hot and your feet are kept warm by underfloor heating. Clean and warm washing up area with a washing machine, tumble dryer (only 50p for over an hours drying) and a fridge freezer. A fire pit and grill is available on every pitch so campfires every evening for us! Lots of open spaces and also hidey holes for the children to play in.
On the other side of a very quiet lane there is a maze and more play areas. Chickens and pigs are kept on site with a handy pigcam in the amenities block so you can see the piglets even when they are in their sty. There is a cat called vernon who moved into our tent for two days solid. I turfed him out out when we went to bed and he sat outside the tent until we let him in again at 7 the following morning!
We had heavy rain and wind during our stay. The ground drained well with no puddles building up and the garden planting afforded lots of shelter from the wind.
For me and my 9 yr old son this was perfect for a couple of days camping with no plans to leave the campsite. We'd gone for total relaxation rather than to explore the area. The fens are not my cup of tea in terms of countryside or walking destination. However the campsite, in my opinion, is a destination in itself!

Turned up and made very welcome. Even offered a taste of the beer made on site. ( more about that later)
We were a group of 9 families and we were pitch on the new side, Fenland park. The pitches were very large even my Norfolk Lake with side extension and van all fitted in with more room for BBQ and bikes. Water and EHU on each pitch
The toilet facilities were very clean and well looked after. Some of our group said your lost some water pressure if a lot of people were showering at the same time but wasn't a problem.
Plenty of room for the kids to run around and explore, a large playing area/field, a maze, a wooded area and a pile of dirt. Yep the kids loved that pile of dirt. So the on site washing machine and tumble dryer was a welcome addition.
On Saturday night 4pm its beer and sausage tasting. All products made on site and all very tasty.
We enjoyed the micro brewery tour Mile Tree Brewery and also enjoyed the beer available from the site shop for the rest of the week.
We visited the other side of the site which again was very nice facilities looked as good as our side.
All pitches had a fire pit with wood available from the shop which can be delivered to you pitch.
We also booked into the Fenland Bushcraft activity, this again was brilliant. Mums Dads and kids had a fantastic time. Andrew and Geof had an excellent approach to keep the kids interested and active. The adults had as much fun as the kids. Our kids ages ranged from 4-10 and had no or little help from the adults to carry out the activities. We made tent pegs, fire lighting sticks, lite fires, built a shelter lite more fires and boiled eggs.
All in all this is an excellent site. Nothing was a problem for the staff
Would I go back? Sure would and planning next years trip already.
Thank you all at the campsite for making my holiday what every parent wants. Tired happy kids at the end of the day so we can sit down and enjoy a nice beer or wine in front of a fire.

This was our second visit - see previous review from October 2015 below.
It is still a wonderful site, and is twice the size now that the 'Fenpark' area has opened up across the lane. The Fenpark is amazing, with exhibition standard amenities, glamping / tipis, a maze and even a hammock camping area.
If I were being ungenerous, I'd say the original section seems less cared for than it did before. The ablutions seemed relatively tired; the table tennis table was gone; the wifi was out of action - apparently permanently; the basketball hoop wasn't really in a useable state and a couple of decomposing footballs were blowing about.
That said, we had a great time. We were instantly colonised by Vernon the site cat, fell in with a group of single parent families, partook liberally of the site's beer (which was in excellent condition) and managed to visit Ely, Hunstanton (bit of a schlep), King's Lynn and Wisbech itself. Peckover House is a revelation. The garden is extraordinary for a town house. I do find the Fens a bit desolate though.

Management response: Many thanks for your feedback. I would just like to explain a couple of the points:
Satellite Wi-Fi System, unfortunately Connect 21 who installed and operated the Site satellite WI fi infrastructure during 2015 ceased trading in Jan 2016. This is a shame as it was the only option we had tried that acutely worked. We are looking in to alternative options but workable systems for the data capacity needed are prohibitively expensive for rural areas that are not served by high speed internet. We are researching alternative options but for the moment are stuck for a solution.
Table Tennis Table, noting an occasion in March this year where a group of unsupervised children were climbing on the table while others were underneath it, we considered for safety reasons we did have to remove the table from the Amenity's block.
We will however be installing a concrete table tennis table along with other games in a new sheltered play area during 2016.
I'm pleased you like our recently opened facility block on the Fenpark site. This new build is full of up to date technology and sets the benchmark for us going forward. The secret Garden block will be due for refurbishment during our next closed season.
I didn't spot the footballs but if they compost well its all good for the plants!
Again many many thanks, Regards, Neil & Lesley |

Despite arriving after 8pm we had a really warm welcome from Lesley, who walked us to our pitch and then came back with beer. She managed to make my exhausted 6yo feel relaxed and happy and I got to work setting up the tent.
The pitches are very generous, some secluded, others more open, and each surrounded by good planting and pleasing views. Each pitch has its own bollard with a light, 16A EHU, a tap and drainage, and a very large firepit. The ground is excellent - no need for rock pegs here - and flat but well drained.
The ablutions are the best I've ever seen on a campsite: a large, well heated block with sofas, books, a table tennis table and useful information boards, three well stocked wet rooms with a good shower, basin and lavatory in each, a separate loo and a washing up room with two sinks, a fridge-freezer, washing machine and dryer.
The shop is just right, selling a good range of basics, sweets, biscuits etc, local sausages and burgers, and the site's own beer from a hand pump, and bottled cider. We didn't need to leave the site at all.
The bushcraft workshop is very worthwhile. The instructors clearly enjoyed themselves and this was infectious. They had each brought a daughter along, which helped mine get into the swing of it: she made some good tent pegs and is now better at a prusik knot than me. Ours was a loosely structured and relaxed session where the instructors teach you the skills and then you get an hour to build a shelter, make a fire and boil some eggs. We learnt some useful skills which came in handy getting the firepit going later on.
After that we went to the 4pm sausage and beer tasting. This was very well attended, and with good reason. My daughter was too busy chowing down on the sausages to go on the tour of the brewery, so I bravely made do with sampling its output. It was a really good way to meet staff and fellow campers, all of whom were pleasant and friendly. It's such a happy place that it'd be difficult to be anything but.

My second visit this year, glamped up a bit in my sons caravan, had 3 of the grandchildren with me, the 2 girls did the pirate workshop and really enjoyed themselves they made a treasure map and a keep out sign (thank you Jenni)there were other workshops the girls could do and very reasonable at £6. 50. We met some lovely people as we always do on this site the kids all play together on hobbit hill. I think I have said it all in previous reviews we have camped in various counties and sites but this one beats them all hands down, all thanks to Lesley and Neil what a lovely couple nothing is too much trouble, will be back hopefully for a sneaky camp in October.

We have just had 10 night visit to this site with our granddaughters, all under 10 years old. What a magical place this is. If I could list the things that would be ideal on a campsite, the Secret Garden does tick all the boxes.
The grounds are beautifully kept. Every pitch is flat AND level. Evey pitch has a fire pit. Every pitch has water supply and grey water disposal.
The shower block is first rate. Showers like you have at home, but in a big wet room! No buttons to keep pushing. This is a site that is teeming with little people. Running around the site, just as they should. Safely. The lovely people that run the Secret Garden trust you to turn the shower off when you've finished. Adult only sites should take note.
Dish wash area is also in the shower block. Washing machine & tumble drier at very reasonable rates.
This is a site under development, in that there is another field across the lane that is almost finished. The grounds look about done, and the shower block is about half way done. It looks to be the same design as the main site, so will also be fab. On this site, we picked apples and plums off the tree. Yum.
The town of Wisbech is just a half hour walk away, and a £5 taxi back. The Jolly Fryer chip shop is very worthy of a mention.
The site shop sells the basics to keep you going, plus the logs for your camp fires, very local veg, and beer from the on site brewery. What else could you want from a campsite? The Secret Garden is probably the best campsite in the world. We travelled over 200 miles to here, and will do again.

Glad to get in this year (fully booked last year), probably because they have a smart new area just across the lane with another 12 or so pitches. Downside is new Toilet Block on Fen Park side is incomplete, but consequence is reduced pitch fee. As usual excellent amenities, extremely helpful owners (I changed my pitch booking TWICE for unforeseen reasons). As ever, I'm not convinced about the combined toilet/shower room idea (there are 3) - I'd like to see a couple more bog-standard basic toilets. I will certainly be back next year. I used the bus service (Nr 46) for the first time - only a short walk and quite reliable. There were 2 special events laid on for kids, which I did not need, but sounded fun (especially the Pirates). Wisbech is a fascinating little town (it'll be nice when its finished ! - current roadworks are a pain). IF you want a taxi back to site on a Sunday night, you MUST pre-book (although it is actually an easy walk !).

Stayed on this charming site for 3 nights in early July 2015. My, what a delightful and very peaceful site! We would have certainly paid more for our stay here – exceptional value for money! And such a warm and friendly welcome! Site seemed very secluded and pitches have the privacy of the lovely fruit and berry bushes and trees that surround you and the entire site, having been a nursery in a previous life. Shower and wash facilities all very clean and comfortable. However, I don’t think we’d want to stay during busy times as the shower is within the toilet, similar to your en-suite at home and there’s only 2 of these plus a larger disabled access wash room, making a third. Large secure dog area for running and spending the pooch. This is the only site so far where we’ve been able to make full use of the site WiFi, great signal, fast response and good value! The on site Miletree Brewery was also a very welcome surprise, the ale and cider are well worth trying; available from the site shop. Didn’t do any walking this time so couldn’t say how accessible local amenities were on foot but this site is midway between Wisbech St. Mary and Wisbech itself; being just a mile down the road. We spent a lovely afternoon in Elgood’s beautifully manicured gardens and brewery bar – definitely worth a visit on a warm day!
Happily revisit when we’re next in this area, thank you.
