Reviewers - mature couple with campervan and bikes.

I wanted to visit this town, so we chose to stay at the campsite for the night.

They were very busy, but the pleasant lady on reception asked us to wait whilst another couple chose 1 of 2 pitches, and we were allocated the other.

The site is on the riverside, some of the pitches are next to the river, and there is a sandy beach on one section too. There are plenty of trees for shade.

Our grassy pitch was between the road and a mobile home, but not overlooked. We struggled to find a EHU post, eventually tracked one down on the other side of the trees and hedge behind us.

The sanitary block was a short distance away, looks quite new, and was cleaned whilst we were there.

The toilets and showers are unisex and were extremely busy, we had to wait sometimes.

There are male and female basin areas, the ladies had 2 cubicled basins. Laundry and washing up facilities under this roof too. Outside is a BBQ area.

Didn't use the pool or any other facilities at the site.

We cycled into the town more than once, it's mainly off road and quite close. The town is very attractive, on the river, and was full of tourists and canoeists.

The site was moderately expensive, what you would expect in the high season.

We stayed here this summer. We originally booked for 5 nights and selected a lovely pitch just back from the river. There was nice hedging around the pitch giving a feeling of privacy and was big enough for our large caravan, an awning and still able to sit outside.

The site was lovely, not too big and overcrowded, but with a good atmosphere. The pool area was clean, with no food or drink allowed, which meant no wasps! The toilet/shower blocks were clean and well maintained. The bar/reception area was nice and usually there was something going on in the evenings. There was a very small 'shop' for essentials and fresh bread could be ordered for delivery the next morning.

Brantome was beautiful and the whole area was a photographers delight. We canoed around the town, and then feeling more adventurous decided to take the 3 hour trip to Bourdeilles, which again is another beautiful town.

Due to our car breaking down, we actually ended up staying at the site for 14 nights. However, Phillippe and his wife were very accommodating and flexible, (as this was now in the busiest part of the season for them and the site was fully booked) with him moving our caravan to a new pitch for us, because the one we were on had be pre-reserved.

I would highly recommend this pitch to anyone, although it may not have enough going on in the evenings for teenagers.

We arrived in mid-July without booking and were lucky to get 4 nights with hookup - we had to move for the 4th night as the site was very busy. All facilities were very good. The pool was (as always!) too full of kids for us oldies but we loved swimming in the river from the artificial sandy beach. The water was not too cold but the current is quite strong so little people must be watched. Ducks and canoists passed us by as we sat on our pitch near the beach. We did not use the bar or restaurant or meals takeaway; the bar area has no real appeal compared with sitting on your pitch. Children had a wonderful time on the play equipment including a large Bouncy Castle. The nearby town of Brantome is lovely, we cycled there in about 5 minutes. We did not canoe this time but watching canoeists is very entertaining. This was only a stopover on our way to Sanguinet in the Landes (France's best-kept secret holiday location!) but we will return as this is a lovely area on a lovely river with many interesting places to visit.

Had 2 nights here on our way down into the Dordogne. There had been so much rain that owners said we could park on the tarmac next to our pitch which was greatly appreciated. We thought it a lovely site and the second day we moved one pitch further round onto hardstanding right on the river bank. The pool looked good and the place had fantastic showers. We had electric bikes and the town is just lovely. Managed to do the boat trip up the river which comes right past the campsite. Would go back again as the village was so pretty.

We (my wife, 2 year old son and I) stayed here for 8 nights having booked only the day before arriving and were allocated a fantastic pitch (no. 44) overlooking the beach and river.

The owners were very welcoming and spoke pretty good English which helped when my French occasionally failed me.

We had a comfort pitch which was very large with a young hedge between each one and plenty of mature trees around. The site is predominantly made up of these pitches which were all large and well shaded. The grand comfort pitches were larger but were less appealing as they are not by the river and were opposite the newer toilet block. The standard pitches were smaller and mostly on the river bank which is pleasant although it is in a separate area and a bit further from the facilities.

There are 2 toilet blocks with good showers, sinks, dishwashing & laundry facilities etc. One is newer but both were clean and perfectly suitable. The pool is good although does get busy at times however sometimes it was completely empty especially in the early mornings and afternoons.

We were there during school holidays and for french bank holiday and despite this it never really felt too busy.

The town is a 10 minute walk along the river, it is beautiful and full of great restaurants although quite touristy it is not spoilt and over commercialised like some places. There were no fast food type places only lovely french cafes with very pleasant but busy staff.

There appeared to be a lot going on in the town including river jousting on the river, a demonstration of the fire service allowing children to shoot the hoses off the bridge into the river, outdoor cinema in the abbey grounds, a few concerts, firework displays and an omelette festival. All this was in the week we were there but I think it was the same each week in the summer.

The site is quite peaceful and the river is great for playing and swimming, there is a canoe centre in Brantome which runs trips all round the area and also allows hire by the hour if you just want a taste.

The only comment for improving the site I can offer is there seemed to be a lacking of toilet roll in some toilets at some times which was generally unpredictable.

We will definitely go back at some point as it was a lovely place and unfortunately we had to pack up in the rain earlier than planned as our son came out in chicken pox so we thought best to leave rather than risk any avoidable spread of it. This said the owners very kindly rang around locally to get him some medicine to help alleviate the symptoms before we left.

We turned up (myself and the wife) without booking and stayed here for 5 nights. Owners were friendly, helpful and spoke good English.

We were given a choice of several pitches which were at the top end of the campsite -we pitched next to the river – all pitches are flat.

The campsite is kept clean and well maintained. The shower/washing up block is modern – probably built within the last couple of years.

There is a small pool, sunbathing area and shop (selling ice cream) in the centre of the site. There is also a small shop inside the main reception block that sells a few of the basics, bread, milk etc.

There is also a small bar/restaurant in this building. We did not have a meal but sampled an alcoholic cocktail – which was nice but expensive.

The walk into Brantome is an easy one taking about 10 – 15 mins. The town is very picturesque and is surrounded by the river.

You can hire a canoe from the boat hire -which is next to the main car park- at a very reasonable price. Driving around the local area was easy as the roads were quiet. There are several delightful little villages within a 20 minute drive of the campsite.

We used this campsite as a stopover on our way to Spain and thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would use it again.
