Spent a great weekend at this lovely campsite. Booked via telephone at short notice with Paul the owner. Clean site with more than adequate facilities which were inspected and cleaned regularly by Paul's wife. Plenty of hot water for showers (free) and for pot washing. Helpful advice given on the local area on arrival and had a large pitch to set up on. Play area for the children was handy and kept them occupied for quite a while.
Great restaurant (The Newcott) within easy walking distance selling gorgeous fish n chips, pizzas and burgers which replaced the customary bbq due to rain.
Went swimming in the public baths in Market Drayton as it was still raining hard but as it brightened up wandered around Market Drayton. Bought delicious gingerbread (MD is the home of gingerbread apparently) and had tea in the Buttercross Tea Rooms.
Enjoyed a trip on the river in Shrewsbury as the weather improved in the afternoon.
On our last day visited the Hawkstone Park Follies situated nearby as recommended by Paul - absolutely fantastic - wear decent shoes and don't forget to take a torch and water. Legs ached a bit the next day!
Only negatives - Bit of noise from the nearby main road, no sign outside the campsite indicating it's name and on the slightly more expensive side at £25 per night for one adult and two children with no EHU. Would definitely stay again though!
All in all a superb weekend camping trip, enjoyed by adults and kids alike

We were new to camping. Me and the gf went for the first time, never been camping before. When we arrived the owner was really nice showed us around. Really nice site clean and well set out. The owner help us set up the tent up as it was our first time, very helpful when we were there. Always checked if we were ok and told us about the area and a nice pub. We are gonna go in a few weeks again as the area is nice. Both owners there was really helpful. Looking forward to going again. Would recommend anyone to go there. Give it a very high rating for customer service and helping us.

Thank goodness we found this gem of a campsite. From when we first spoke to the owner. It was obvious he was very very friendly. When we arrived after a long journey. We were first made very welcome by the owners wife and when the owner got back to the site. He made it his business to come over and introduce him self. Which we thought was lovely. We were told the best places to eat and have a drink. And the places to go and visit if we wished to. Both very knowledgeable of the local areas. Which helps a lot when you have not been before.
The site itself has been very well thought out. As experienced wardens ourselves we know what we like. And this campsite is very much it.
The site itself is in a lovely location you can see for miles on a clear day.
The facilities are kept spotless. And we did not have to queue up at all to use any of them. The showers are lovely and hot and roomy. The site is very well lit which I really like. As it can be quite daunting if you need to visit the facilities in the dark. The drainage is also very. As at one spell. While we were out it had a good down pour. We half expected to find the tent under water. But it was exactly dry as we left it.
The children's play area is superb. Again well thought out. Its entirely safe for the children and in full view of the parents at all times and they don't even have to be there they can just sit outside their unit or sit at the lovely table and chairs placed near there. So much thought again with flowers in nice pots that make the site so welcomeing. And the children can even watch the hens through the fence.
And they are into recycling again a plus. The owners are so relaxed about everything. You immediately feel relaxed in their company. And both have got a great sense of humour. We have had a great wend. Shame it was not longer. But we will definitely be going back there. As there is still so much to see. And know we will be coming back to a great site. Many thanks :)

A large family party (three tents with 6 adults and 2 children) camped here over the August Bank Holiday weekend. We had just been let down by a campsite near Shrewsbury and when we rang the owner we were pretty desperate! The owner went out of his way to help us. Despite not having any electric tent pitches available, he ran an extension down to one of the pitches, providing us with some electricity so we could at least blow up everyone's camp beds.
There were also two couples with us who needed B&B accommodation, and the owner advised us to book at a hotel that was just opposite the campsite. A great help!
The site was fairly new but had very good facilities nonetheless. The toilet and shower block was mixed sex, two toilets and two showers, a temporary solution until separate facilities for men and women are built. They were kept very clean and we never had to queue. There was a chemical disposal point behind the toilet block, and the waste area was clean and tidy, with separate bins for recyclable or general waste.
There was a large play area for the children, which was superb, I rarely saw my two, they made a lot of friends there! There also were chickens kept on site (the cockerel might wake you up if you're a light sleeper!), and a pony. We had a fire pit and it wasn't a problem for us to have a campfire at night.
A few downsides. First, there were no dishwashing facilities, although this wasn't a problem for us. Second, the A41 runs alongside the site (with a large field separating the two). The road is busy and traffic noise is noticeable (if you notice things like that). I managed to sleep, but my mother-in-law had a few difficulties on the first night. A pair of earplugs for the next night and she was happy again.
The owner lives on site behind the playground and is very visible walking around, talking to guests, and making sure everyone is happy. A proper genuine 'good guy', it was a pleasure to meet him and know that there are people out there who will do their best for you when they don't really need to do anything.
The owner passed on information about local pubs for food: The Bear at Hodnet, which we didn't visit; and The Red Lion at Wistanswick, which does excellent food, but if he tells you it's walking distance then you need to ignore him because it's near on 3 miles! He also recommended we visit Hawkstone Historic Park and Follies (looked brilliant but we didn't have chance to get there), and he pointed out sites of local interest, such as The Wrekin (a big hill) and the Goose at Market Drayton (a real goose that drinks cider and has its own website).
We would return to this campsite.
