I have liked this campsite for years. It is in a great location with good facilities and has a field for tent or van units. I understand that it has been taken over by Camping and Caravanning club and hope that they keep the informal atmosphere in the main field.

Not the prettiest site by any means, but traffic noise nowhere near as bad as expected, and the location is superb. Shower block dated but clean (and warm!), staff friendly & helpful, free WiFi that works well. Close to fantastic scenery, amazing walks, and if you are using it for a base & effectively just to sleep then it is perfect.
Best bit? 'Grown up ' showers that allow you to turn off and on yourself, and to adjust your own temperature. !

I stayed at this site with my husband, daughter and dog. We wanted to mountain bike up to the Elan Valley which we did and it was awesome. The hardstanding touring pitches were as other people have commented between the statics and seasoned tourers, they are also on the dark side and again the traffic going up the A470 is very noisy. Saying that the warden was very friendly and helpful, the toilets were dated but always clean and the showers lovely and hot. The town was only only a short walk away and it had a lovely butchers and green grocers plus a coffee shop and well stocked spar. There are a few pubs which we frequented: The Bear and The Cornill Exchange being our favourite. There is a busy cycle shop as well that does bike hire. The site is currently up for let by the council so there was a bit of uncertainity in the air. The camping field was quite busy and that was by the side of the river as well. All in all a friendly site I would recommend and return there.

The campsite was lovely, although the hard standing pitches for tourers could do with a upgrade. They are also very shaded. The camping field though is lovely. The river is stunning with great areas for fishing and a lovely shallow area by the seasonal campers for the children to play in. Everybody on the campsite were friendly. The campsite is next to a fab park with a play area, football area and a great river walk for dogs. The town is only a 10 min walk away, through the park and up a steep slope. The first place you reach is the Eagle pub. This is a very old pub and well used which you can see by the state of the decor, however, the staff were lovely and really chatty, which helped to pass the time away on a rainy day. They also sell good food. Very highly recommended for a visit. However, the same can not be said for the bar staff of the Lamb and Flag. We were not made to feel welcome. Tourists were left waiting at the bar whilst they served the locals, even when they had only just walked in! Not a good place to visit. You would think that they would make more of an effort considering there is a 11 pubs in a small town? You can walk through the town in 20 mins as it is based in a cross position with a clock in the centre. This is like a mini roundabout. Can be quite scary when trying to cross the roads as there is the main A road that runs through the town. Heavy and large vehicles have to squeeze down the narrow roads. Can be difficult to navigate with small children. We had to step in doorways and alleyways on one part of the road. There is a red kite feeding station just a short walk from the town. They are amazing to watch. Overall we had a pleasent stay but I would say 4 days was enough!

This was one of the best sites where we have stayed. It is beside a trout river (the Wye) and you can camp right on the riverside, with electricity. Permits to fish are £5 a day bought at a local newsagents. It is about 10 minutes walk through a park into the small town which has all the shops you could need - and a few more antique shops too. The small town museum had a fascinating display, with a temporary one about 10 local people who had died in WW1. The loo / showers all worked well, being clean and with ample hot water.

Great location alongside the river, only downside we couldn't swim in it, but we could skim and paddle! Next door to local park and 10 minute walk into the town. Friendly staff, female showers weren't the best as one kept tripping also male toilets were a bit smelly, other than that, the site was ideal for the purpose of visiting nearby places of interest, such as Elan Valley and The Royal Welsh Show.

We stayed here for 3 nights mid week, 2 tents with 2 adults and 6 children. Although at the end of July, the site was only about half full.
Firstly the shower/toilet block (ladies anyway) was large, spacious and clean. There are about 10 toilets and 4 showers. We didn't have to queue for the showers, which were lovely and hot, with detachable heads so the children could shower easily too.
The washing up sink area has 2 sinks, and the water is unbelievably hot.
Electric hook up is located in the first half of the field.
Although there were plenty of bins, I couldn't see any recycling facilities.
I did also notice rubbish lying around on the grass, obviously from previous campers, which hadn't been cleared up.
What is lovely about this site is that along the edge of the camping field runs the River Wye - a large stream/small river, with gentle sloping edges. It is brilliant for the kids to paddle and catch minnows in. On the opposite side is a wood with beautiful walks (accessible via a footbrige further down).
Through the next field is a large (public) playground with a toddler area, and an area for the bigger kids. Follow the path further and that leads you into Rhayader, and a fanastic fish and chip shop.
The downside of this site is that it is alongside the main road and I was woken by traffic noise around 6am.

We needed somewhere to stop as it was quite late so just happened to be passing and knew nothing about the site. It was way overpriced for no electric hook up and they seemed to just let people in without any regard to the amount of space available. The site was very noisy, with a pub nearby with some sort of awful karaoke. If you've got loads of kids who want to run around and make a lot of noise, and you want to play loud music and don't want a peaceful site, this will be ideal. If not, it's torture. I will never, ever go back!

When I tried by telephone to book for a mid week break somebody did phone me back but asked if we could arrive after 12. On arrival at ten minutes past 12 the office sign said 'Office closed 12 to 3pm' Do not enter before checking in at the office. We waited a half hour and spoke to other campers who suggested we should just pitch up or wait for a staff member to return. We telephoned a mobile number to contact if there was no warden on site but this was diverted to voice mail.
There was a vacant pitch with electric hook up on the bank of the river and the camper on the neighbouring pitch suggested we put up our tent. We received a telephone call from a warden saying carry on and he will be back on site later.
The location of the site next to the main road is going to be noisy with traffic, but expect a high volume of HGVs from the early hours of the morning.
The facilities were dated but the Gents toilet/shower resembled a public convenience with the smelly urinal trough. In one of the showers there were paper towels on the floor for two days although there was a signature stating the facilities had been inspected.
On balance the site is well located, only a short walk to town with a selection of pubs, take outs and grocery stores. There are a variety of walks from the site and it is ideal for exploring the Elan Valley.
Will I return to the site? Yes, in the hope that whoever is responsible for the site reads this and takes action.

This really is a grotty little site and way overpriced for the facilities available.
Yet again, static and seasonal pitches are favoured to the detriment of real tourers. The touring pitches are small and marked out with white lines in what feels like a car park, and can be found between the static and seasonal areas.
Although you can pitch up on the edge of the river bank, which looks idyllic, the site is really noisy as it edges the A470. There is a constant stream of very noisy lorries flying by, even through the night.
The shower block is very dated and doesn't seem to have any heating, and wasn't very clean.
The only plus was the free Wi-Fi!
There don't seem to be an abundance of sites in and around Rhayader, so we unfortunately had to put up with it, but this was one of the few sites that we couldn't wait to leave.
