We stayed here for a long weekend and there's plenty left to do on other visits. We phoned to book just in case, and were glad: the barrier at the gate was down at 7 pm, and you'd have to be bold to ring the buzzer to gain entry without a booking. The Site Full sign was up but many of the pitches are let to seasonal caravans and most of these were unoccupied.

Good value for money, we thought. We were taken to our pitch, and everything was pointed out: very helpful owner. Each pitch is hard standing, and they're terraced in groups into what was once a well wooded hillside (birch, oak and Scots pine). The wooded knoll between the site and the main road is good at screening sight and sound of traffic, which does stop in the evening.

You get one key fob to operate the entrance barriers (needed for the security of the stored caravans?) and for the toilets (we had to co-ordinate our visits). Ladies toilet block is up a flight of very uneven steps, is spotlessly clean and freshly painted in jolly colours. Husband didn't comment on the Gents, which are on another part of the site.

The showers are hot and free, and the hairdryer is free too (unusually). There's a motorhome service point (drain, stand pipe, but no hose) well away from the CDP - it would have been more convenient to have them sited together, but that's a minor point. Bins emptied daily, much rubbish is recycled.

There is a small fenced Dog Walk. Our Spaniel enjoyed a walk in the extensive woods up behind the site, though there are deer in there so she got a couple of ticks.

Pleasant walk to Comrie through the woods, then a bit more dodgy on the busy road. The town merits half a day, don't miss the Cancer Charity shop - best of its kind, with a real buzz. There are other surprising shops - the veggie shop does its own fresh orange juice, there's a tartan weaver and a specialist baker and the De'il's Cauldron (waterfall) is absolutely amazing but take care with children or dogs.

My husband and I stayed at this campsite for two nights in our caravan. The site was quite empty and we were shown to a lovely pitch which was more than adequate for our purposes, in fact a much larger tourer could have pitched there and would have had ample space for an awning and also table and chairs. My only advice is that one use steel pegs for your awning as the hard standing is exactly that - two inches of gravel and the rest underneath, concrete.

The manager is into recycling, with chutes for plastic, cans, paper and household rubbish. It only takes a couple of minutes and is no problem.

We had read about the toilets being old fashioned, but no-one had mentioned that you forgot this as soon as you opened the door. All the cubicles were painted a different colour, and I must admit it made me think of warm sunny days, even though the weather was the wettest week in September.

Comrie is in itself a lovely village with friendly people, a good selection of shops and as others have written before, a great chippie.

We do hope to visit this site again, I liked the peace and tranquillity amongst the trees without being overcrowded by them.

Well worth a visit is you like the same as my husband and I do.

A quiet family-run (caravan/camper van only) site, located a short walk through woods from Comrie. A friendly welcome with an offer of a daily newspaper. Pitches are mostly small stones or concrete surrounded by plenty of flowers and plants, looks (and smells) great. A couple of interesting chalets are also on the site with roofs that need mowing rather than painting! A fairly large children's adventure play area was spotted, but it did not seem to be used a great deal.

Very clean toilets and a very organised site, but no signs of rules and regulations like a lot of other sites. Free showers. The credit card security system is still in operation (see older reviews) so it could be a problem if you need to use the loos when your beloved is out getting some shopping. A large electric barrier is lowered at 23:00 and up at 08:00 so outside these times there are no cars to disturb your peace and quiet.

The site is located right in the centre of mature woods so it becomes a bit of a sun-trap (spotted a couple of birds of prey overhead as well), and these woods could be explored by the more adventurous camper, although too steep for biking.

Comrie has a couple of pubs and shops to visit and a decent chippie. There is a popular golf club and plenty of walks in nearby woods. A large cafe/restaurant (not tried) sits across from the site entrance and it seems to be open most of the time. The Elmbank House Hotel (soon to be named the Comrie Hotel) is recommended for good food and friendly staff.

TV reception is OK, but this is liable to be a problem soon when the analogue signal is turned off. Each pitch has a TV point, but this system has proved problematic for the site owners who apologised for it being broken.

Crieff is a 15 min drive away, with a few more shops and the Famous Grouse visitor centre.

Overall the Twenty Shilling is recommended for getting away from it all and those who want a quiet life.

This pretty, small, conservation friendly campsite is run by exceedingly helpful people. It is well kept, the toilet block is immaculate and there are facilities for children and even a fenced in exercise area for dogs. The fact that the children's play area is separate from the pitches means that people who want a bit of peace and quite are also catered for.
The town of Comrie is beautiful and has pubs and good restaurants. I would especially recommend a snack or afternoon tea at the "Chocolate Cottage"; a must for anyone who is enthusiastic about wonderful homemade food and chocolates.

We stayed for one night in this truly beautiful campsite, very scenic and tranquill, this is a immaculately clean & well kept little campsite. The campsite is only a 5 minute walk away from the friendly & quaint little village of Comrie,Well worth a visit. The only bad points are you have to pay a £10 deposit for one security card that gives entrance & exit to all barriers & the toilets. Fine if everyone in your party are all going to the same place at the same time and you are all the same sex! But if your wife decides to take the car to get some provisions, your daughter decides to go for a late shower & you really need to go to the toilet, all at the same time....FORGET IT. Oh and the gents toilets is ages away, which means that you really have to make as least visits as possible, which for me is impossible!!

Apart from these minor problems,I really enjoyed my stay at this site, I only wish all campsites were as good as this one.

This is truly an outstanding park in terms of beauty. Surrounded by woods on the outskirts of the small, but attractive and wonderfully friendly village of Comrie. The facitlities on the park are basic but spotless.

Twenty Shillings, describes itself as a family park and at first glance the site of the wooden treehouse and play area plus the natural allure to children of a woodland area would indeed lead you to believe this. A word of caution for anyone wishing to stay there with children. The only allowed ball area is next to a fairly steep incline which leads directly to a blind bend on a busy main road (advertised in all the biking magazines as the best in Sotland). This unfortunately, is the only area of the park which is not completely enclosed and yet is the dedicated play area. Children, no matter how well behaved or how young are not permitted to play anywhere else.

At Twenty Shilling, children are tolerated rather than welcomed and the place runs largely like a concentration camp. There is a card system which gives you access to both the park and the toilet and shower facilities, which is great for security purposes but if you need the toilet at the same time as hubby's gone into Comrie to pick up supplies and your son (who is now too old to sneak into the ladies with you) also needs to go - you've had it. One caravan, one card.

Finally if considering a stay during any of the peak holiday times, particularly bank holiday weekends, make sure your battery is charged as the site cannot deal with high electricity demands. Last summer the power went off 6 times in one weekend, with the duration of one of the blackouts exceeding 2 hours. No refunds given in fact no apologies given either.
