We stayed for a few days at the end of our Easter holidays. We have been at this site for many years with trailer tent and then touring caravans. I booked in February and thought nothing more about it. We arrived on the Friday and booked in. The touring site (now just the top field) was empty with only 2 semi static tourers on site. We were surprised to find this as on visits before at this time of year you were squeezing into a full site. We were very disappointed to find the notice on the front doors advising that the swimming pool /sauna complex was closed for maintenance. This was the end of the holiday and our kids were looking forward to using the pool and sauna. When we went into the bar we were then greeted with the sign advising the park was in administration. We found the staff to be friendly and helpful, but I was annoyed we were not contacted in advance to advise of the situation with the pool complex. Further to that we were not told when booking in, or offered a reduction in price. If we had known these were not in operation we would have gone to other sites in the area we have been at before. We did not eat this time, but spoke with other guests who said the chef was doing very good food. The whole park looked to be in need of upgrading. The pitches were almost back to hardgrass standing rather than hard standing. The toilet complex was all operating but much in need of modernisation. Peeling Paint and polyfiller everywhere. The showers were nice and hot, but you had to dance around to get into the spray as not enough pressure to get out into the cubicle. The Laundry was open but we had no need to use it this visit. This used to be a great site, with clubroom for the kids, swimming pool complex and all at a reasonable price, but I have to say we will not be back in it's present condition. I do wish the new staff all the best and hope that they turn it around as it would be a shame to see it slip away.

We got our caravan 5 years ago and found this site straight away, we have had loads of great weekends here over the years and now find it so sad watching the site go downhill.
This was an excellent site, kids aged 7, 10 and 13 have always loved it for the games room, swimming pool and park, unfortunately now there is no pool available and the games room is full of broken down machines, so disappointing, whole site looks in desperate need of some love and attention.
We like the way this site is set out, you are not over looked by static caravans you are on a touring field which is also close to the park for the children.
Friendly staff but on a few occasions on trying to book on the site it's difficult to get an answer when phoning.
This site has reduced there prices so I can't complain about cost.
Really hope somebody turns this site back into the great site it was.

Visited this park last weekend and although under administration we found the park absolutely lovely and peaceful. We spent each night in the bar as we were camping and the staff were fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble for them and we were made very welcome and were our 2 young children. The food was very reasonable with lots of specials on enabling us to eat on several occasions, each time very good and large portions. We hope the park sells quickly for the staff and we will return later on this year.

Last stayed at this site 2 years ago and there have been some changes. Firstly, the lower caravan and tent field, the one nearest the road is now being developed for more statics and so the touring pitch area is only the one at the top by the entrance driveway. The new static area does look nice with some fantastic stone walls around each unit.
The pool, toilet and shower facilities are in need of serious work. I don't mind if things are a bit outdated as long as they are clean but this was certainly not the case here, for the females there was only 2 shower/toilet combination cubicles as the stand alone toilets were closed which led to lots of waiting about, they were not cleaned nearly often enough and taking your own loo roll was a must. They did open the loos at the bar for use but these flooded whilst we were there.
The pool and changing area had a serious case of black mould and the cloth marks were still visible where someone had made a half hearted attempt to wipe it away, the smell of damp was pretty strong and the green carpeting is horribly squelchy, the whole pool area is going to need an extensive upgrade. The sauna was also out of order and on investigation it had had its walls ripped out to expose the rockwool so there must be a major problem there too.
We ate in the bar once and the food is good and the staff are great, however we did wait an hour for our food to arrive.
The touring field is good but the hard standings do need a bit of a weedkill before the grass claims them back.
We did not use the play area or the tennis court so can't comment on those.
All in all the feeling is that all the focus and money is on the new static area and this is to the serious detriment of the touring and pool area which is a shame as this site used to be a real gem and there is so much to do in the area.

The family and I really enjoyed our week long stay here.
The staff were friendly and helpful, for example when my wife commented that there was no coat hangers in the ladies showers, they were installed that same day.
They don't mind dogs on the site but they are not allowed in the bar/restaurant area but can be taken into the pool table room and front seating area.
The food was exceptional however at the time of staying the chef was leaving.
The site could definitely do with some renovation, but to be fair the wardens haven’t been there long and are just starting the work. It looks like the main concentration has been towards the static park before beginning the touring park renovations.
The standing we had was not level (sorry previous reviewer!) and the surrounding grass seemed to be higher than the pitch, so you ended up in a little dip, although this didn't cause us any problems with the awning.
We will definitely be going back.

Had a good stay here it is very central for days out,
The children's play area could do to be expanded, and the changing area for the pool needs some money spending on them,
No shop on site but a very well stocked post office in the village 5 mins walk,
If you get chance to have the Sunday buffet its to die for and so is the other food on the menu, in the restaurant part of the bar.
Hard standings for vans are level but need tiding up,
The best thing this site has going for it is the staff, helpful and always a warm welcome when they see you,
As previous reviews stated you do some times get the pool to your self and the site needs a lick of paint.

We loved this site! We just stopped off on our way to Stranraer, the kids (9 and 6yrs) just loved riding round on their bikes and the pool was a real bonus. We were on our way to a week touring in Northern Ireland and quite honestly all of us kept thinking back to our first night here. The restaurant is excellent, not cheap, but reasonable for the quality.
Lovely views and nice site layout, it is close to the main road we were pitched right by the site entrance and didn't hear the main road at all (and I'm a very light sleeper).
Toilet block was great I really liked the two shower rooms with sink and own loo, great for mother and daughter showering.
We loved it so much we made sure we stayed again on the way back.

This was our first time camping in Scotland and this was an excellent site to use as a base to explore this region, it is located just off the A75 between Dunfries and Castle Douglas.
The site itself was well maintained the toilet/shower block was always clean and tidy. There was a play area for the children with a tennis court, the swimming pool was never crowded sometimes it felt like our private pool as we were the only ones using it. The site is being extended but it does not 'feel' like a big site and you are not far from the pool or games room / bar area anywhere on this site.
The site is not on a level area, the pitches are, but this made it slightly more difficult for my Daughter who had a plaster cast on and was using crutches and a wheel chair for getting around as there is a lot of are gravel and hilly ground to overcome.
We are planning on going back next year.

The restaurant here is outstanding as are the friendly staff who work in the bar/restaurant.
BUT. This site is looking tired and is lacking some investment-
From the outside it looks good as does their website but it is clear it is a shadow of its former self.
The washblock although spotlessly clean is small, the pitches a re likewise and are long rather than wide leading to inevitable mud.
We visited over half term to find the excellent chef running the bar, cooking and waiting on tables on his own. Not good.

We stayed here for 3 nights, site was very nice, toilets were kept clean all the time. There was plenty of toilets and showers, including shower rooms with toilet, which would be great for mother and child. Also they had baby shower room which I have not seen before but is a fabulous idea. We were on the top site but the main tent area was on a lower level, which looked very nice and had it's own toilet block.
Did find it a bit expensive, but it does have a bar and swimming pool, complete with sauna, sadly no shop. Also has a very good children's play area.
Area around was very pleasant main supermarket was a Tesco in Castle Douglas which took about 30 mins. Also for a good day out I would recommend the cream of Galloway park.
