A lovely site with spotlessly clean facilities. The friendly owners made us most welcome and it was a pleasure to meet them. The site is level and well-maintained and the location looking out to the Orkneys is simply stunning! Not much to do at John O'Groats, but we didn't care! A stay at this site more than made up for it!

Lovely spacious site. Stayed here twice on our trip and would definitely return. Take a walk over Duncansby stacks if you stay here and watch the puffins, razorbills etc and look out for the seals which you can also see on the site itself. Showers are free and hot and the block is immaculately clean. Laundry room available. £2 for a wash. However they also have a spin dryer so if you want to hand wash that's easier. Washing line provided too. Nice pub about 10 minutes walk away that's been refurbished. All in all a site I would be happy to return to again and again

Been here a couple of times now. Quite a nice site in a great location. The owners are friendly and chatty and are full of info should you need to ask about anything in the area. The site is well kept and on entry you are given a key for the toilet block and laundry room. The showers are free and quite roomy with plenty of space for your clean gear to stop it getting splashed on.
From your tent you can see the nearby deserted isle of Stroma and further off the isles of Orkney. You may also see seals, dolphins and killer whales swim by. If you walk to Duncansby stacks be sure to follow the fence around the coast on the way out. Plenty of birds here for the ornothologists.
There is a pub which is about a 10 minute walk away and nearby hotel although none to sure if they welcome non residents as I have never been.
Nearest towns are Wick and Thurso. There's a great chippy in Thurso, without advertising, its the one next to a launderette. One thing of note, if visiting some of the castles around Wick they are not well signposted so pre-plan trips there with on line maps and/or guides.

A neat and tidy site just above the seashore, with great views of the Orkney Islands. The lady in charge made us feel welcome. The pitches are fairly level, hard and well spaced. The site adjoins 'The end of the road' - not much of a place it has to be said, with only a few gift shops and a cafe or two. At least the former hotel has been given a new lease of life as apartments, with a modern multi coloured extension that can be seen for miles! There are 2 versions of the famous signpost and the one outside the former hotel is free whilst the other is defended by a photographer.
The facilities block on the site looks to have been refurbished for the season. Everything was clean and tidy - but no shower curtains or anywhere to put the soap. The site is recommended, but don't stay long unless you are into bird watching or boat trips - there isn't much else. Do visit the two headlands either side of the village - particularly as both of them are further north on the UK mainland than John O'Groats!

Helpful owners, excellent views, however for the prices charged poor quality facilities. Some modernisation of the toilet blocks would bring its own rewards. They are clean, in good decorative order but as old as the hills and in need of modernisation. I did not use them but the vans due to this. The site is a good base for travelling, though we would not return to a featureless drab place compared with the rest of the highlands. The centre development paid for by EC funds contains 2 shops open and 8 closed, a snack bar and cafe as well as the ferry terminal, crowded at weekends with coach parties milling about with nothing to do.

After a long days travelling from Ullapool on the West Coast, it was a relief to finally reach the furthest part of our journey. The weather was fantastic, no wind, clear skies and really quite warm. We booked in at reception and were told to pitch where we like. There is plenty of room and the ground is soft, so nice and easy to get the pegs in. It was grass that had just been cut however, so in the morning when it was wet with dew, it got everywhere! The views from the site are fantastic, you will probably see a few Seals too. As other people have commented, the toilet and shower block, although clean, are really in need of an update. They remind me of the toilets we had in the school playground! The site is a good stop off place for onward travel, but there isnt really anything to do in the place itself. A few shops, a cafe and the ferry terminal. A walk along the beach in the evening was probably the highlight to be fair. If you are up that way at the correct time of year, chances are you may see the Northern Lights too!

Stayed for two nights in this lovely campsite with open views across to Orkney and we had the company of seals playing in the sea in front of our van. The site is very close to the ferry terminal for Orkney and we had a lovely day trip from the pier by ferry and coach to the sights of this beautiful island all organised from the site. The campsite is very clean with excellent facilities and the site owners are very friendly and helpful. My wife unfortunately became seriously ill whilst in John O Groats but the excellent lady GP in nearby Canisbray who the site owners directed us to soon had her sorted and admitted to Caithness General Hospital in Wick where she stayed for 9 days before I could get her home to Cheshire. We will definitely return to continue our adventure when she is well enough.

The John O Groats Caravan and Camping site is uniquely positioned on the headland at John O Groats, next to the ‘first & last house’ and overlooking the small harbour with its ferry service to the Orkneys. The expected range of tourist facilities are all within spitting distance, including the old hotel which (sadly) is currently being re-developed into holiday flats. However, what is really special about this location is its stunning views across the Pentland Firth to the Orkneys and in particular the nearest island of Stroma.
We stayed here on the second night of a family motorhome tour around Scotland, at the end of August (2012). This was our first such holiday, as well as our first Scottish holiday.
After a full day’s tour up the coast from Aviemore, we were keen to get ourselves set up and find somewhere to go for our evening meal. We arrived somewhere near 7pm and as it turns out, the staff (owners?) were waiting for us to arrive before closing the office/reception for the night. Despite having to wait for us, they were most friendly and helpful.
Unfortunately for us the only place available at this time for the family to eat was a rather uninspiring looking pub / hotel / guesthouse thing about a mile up the road. We elected to jump in the van and drive up the coast road until we found something a little more appealing. What we found was the Castle Arms in Mey - eight miles away. A little gem of a place this, with cosy bar and restaurant. Nothing too fancy just good food, good company and the hosts were excellent (and a room of photos of the Queen mum).
At John O Groats there are three cafes amongst the touristy facilities but all were closed by 7pm.
As it turned out this was to be the second cheapest site we visited over the week - but this should not be viewed as a reflection of the facilities or the service to be found there. True, there is no clubhouse, children’s playground, shop or swimming pool but when you can pitch up on the cliffs at the north-east tip of Great Britain, with magnificent panoramic views across to the Orkneys, such things really do pale into insignificance.
The separate male & female WC & shower facilities are bright, spacious and spotlessly clean. In between is a laundry room with wash up facility which we didn’t use but looked to have all the necessary bits & pieces.
There are a number of fresh water supply points dotted around the site along with a single waste ‘water’ disposal shed/facility.
I did not come across a grey water disposal point but will admit to not searching very hard.
There are both grass and hard standing (gravel) pitches with electric hook up available for caravans and motorhomes, as well as the extensive spaces available for tents.
Overall we thought this was a great campsite and would not hesitate to recommend it to others.
…and oh what a location!

We arrived at about 6 in the evening. The staff were very nice and helpful.
The site itself is very clean and well kept lots of fresh water taps
Toilets are very clean as well and the views are magnificent. The first night we got there the sunset pictures we got from the pier were fab.
Overall for the views I would say this site was a must on the list of sites to go to and we would definitely come back here

We weren't planning on visiting this site but came further north to avoid the midges! so glad we did. The site is immaculate. Clean toilets, large free showers with plenty of hot water. We pitched overlooking the sea in a beautiful spot. Sat watching seals swimming by at night.
Duncansby stacks is a must place to visit. One tip- follow the fence instead of the path and you'll find a gate that leads you to a fantastic spot. Nobody went down there till they saw us and followed. Pub just outside the site and a shop too. Was expecting the place to be very touristy but it wasn't. Just a perfect place to stay
