My wife and I stayed for one night whilst cycle touring in the area. The owners couldn't have been more welcoming or helpful. It's a lovely site with the river running along one side of it. The main road is close and does have a fair amount of traffic during the day but it didn't disturb us at night at all.

The facilities were very good and clean and the pitch was generous enough for us not to feel crowded. There is an abundance of birdlife on the river and you can walk along a riverside path to the village of Denholm where the Cross Keys does excellent food, wine and beer.

We were getting low on meths for our camping stove and when I mentioned this to the owner he lent us a gas stove without hesitation. The current owners have only been there a few months so please don't let earlier reviews of this site put you off.

My wife and I went away with family (and their caravan) for the first bank holiday in May. Found the site very clean and the staff very friendly. We had a very pleasant experience which started as soon as we pulled up to reception to check in. We were given a Riverside pitch which had excellent views including sightings of otters, fish, and a heron!

We found the pitch sizes were excellent and had enough room for the trailer tent including awning and car all to be on the pitch. We were charged £20 per night, which for a bank holiday including Electric hook up we found to be excellent value!

On the Sat we took the dogs and kids on a walk into hawick (approx 2 mile in and 2 mile back) which was a nice walk but not very pram/buggy friendly with some sections in which it needed carrying due to roots, but a very pleasent walk along the riverside.

The toilets on site were kept very clean, and the showers were excellent. Lots of room, just a little tricky to negotiate a warm temperature, this is our only 'negative' point of the whole site! But it wont stop us going back and we think this site is definitely a Gem!

The owners were very friendly and very approachable as well, even when there was a slight issue with electric cut out it was sorted within a few minutes!

The kids loved the site with fishing in the river and also the onsite park, which although small, kept them entertained for hours.

I would definitely recommend this site to anyone, and we will are definitely going back again soon.

This was our first time at this site, we choose it for the onsite fishing, we stayed four nights. On arrival the owners were very pleasant and said that we could choose what pitch we wanted as it was quite quiet.
The ground was level, not far to the toilet / shower block which were very clean and noticed they were cleaned twice a day they were well maintained with lots of hot running water. The area for washing up was very clean, plenty hot water. It was a bit of a trek to the waste bin as it is situated just inside the entrance of the site , it might be better situated nearer the pitches.
There was a few water taps situated in the middle of the site.It is a lovely and scenic site with the river running along side of it that you can fish in. The only trouble was it was shallow and there were a few kids throwing stones and a lot of dogs in the water,so we did not get much fishing done which was a disappointment as this is why we choose this site.

The surrounding area of Hawick was very nice for walks and a good selection of shops and take-aways, there is a large Morrison as you enter into Hawick. You need to have your own transport as any of the nearest town are quite a bit away, the owners were helpful with bus timetable times and taxis numbers. There is no shop on site so you have to make sure you are quite well stocked up.

The down side for us, was that it site was mostly caravans and we were the only tent there was a very busy B road very close to the site and the noise of the traffic going by all day and night was very loud. We also felt that you were quite close together you could hear everyone's conversations.
There is also a track road that goes around the pitch which is used quite a bit. It felt like we were in the middle of a road at times. It was quite expensive per night with EHU (25.50) we did not think it was worth that amount.
The owners were very nice and took the time to chat to you and were always around and about. Overall great if you have a caravan but not a tent (for the traffic noise).

We stayed here for one night and at £19 a night for early season, we were expecting something nice but unfortunately this was not the case! There was no fully service pitches and the ground was seriously unlevel even with ramps we were still very unlevel. The bins were located at the entrance the lighting was very poor. We would not recommend this place if you have small children as the river that runs along the campsite was very deep and had open fencing. The toilets were clean but the showers were on un controlable mixer taps and both of us could not get the temperature set right! This could be a real nice site if it had someone running it right. The wardens were kind of helpful but the male warden lacked personality! Hawick is a great place and there is a great Indian called Sheeba highly recommended. Shame we can only recommend Hawick and the Indian.

This was our first stop on a 23 day camping tour of Scotland. Having driven 365 miles from Pembrokeshire we didn't want to spend time looking around alternative sites. On arrival one numbered tent plot was offered - but it was an OK one, albeit some way from the toilet block. A corner plot within what was mainly a tourer caravan area. To pitch our two-person tent there we paid £10. Excellent flat ground. The wide and attractive river was only 20 yards away - but despite arriving at twilight, no midges.

We were only stopping the one night, so can't fairly comment on local facilities, but Hawick is a nice town and only 2 miles away. And the Borders area in general is somewhere I have always been happy to spend time on previous trips.

Hmmm. It's a bit of an odd one this site.
As it is situated next to a shallow river where you can fish for brown trout and kids can paddle along in the shallows, it is perfect for those lazy, sunny summer days. However, if it is chilly and overcast then it can be the site from hell.

The site is situated two and a half miles away from the town of Hawick and as there isn't any kind of shop or convenience store near to it, and the site has no shop or any real facilities, you are forced to ensure you have adequate supplies of whatever you need. The site is also expensive. We paid £25 per night for the two of us in our 8 berth tent with EHU.
Now I realise that this may be the going rate on a lot of sites nowadays, but for that kind of money I would expect top class facilities and amenities such as shop, club house on site etc. (for example Rudding Park in Harrogate) I also the expect the toilet facilities to be cleaned and checked regularly with a good supply of toilet rolls (they weren't). -- Oh, and as the site is right next to a pretty busy 'B' road, the noise from cars and trucks is quite prevalent. (especially in the mornings)

The regulars on this site were some of the friendliest people I have met but even they have voiced concerns about the lack of facilities on the site.

There is a small play area for under 10's but if you take teenagers, then beware of them becoming bored within the first hour. There isn't anything around at all for them to do.

I could be nit-picking but unless they look at their pricing rates, then their return rate of visitors will reduce even further as I wasn't the only one to grumble about the prices.
On a brighter note however, there is a good size Morrisons store in town (although there isn't a great deal to do or see in the town) , the countryside around in the borders is beautiful and I can recommend a drive up the A7 into the town of Galashields. - a lovely place with nice people. (it also has a 24 hour Tesco and a large Asda)
So, in summary, I would say if you want a base to stay in the Borders and you are prepared to negotiate with the site managers regarding the price, then give this site a chance, but do not expect too much other than a pretty riverside view.

This is a nice friendly site. A lot of the caravans are there all year and the people were really nice and helpful. The site is clean and the toilets have 2 showers though the water doesn’t drain too good from them, there is a mop to use. The toilets are clean and there is ample as it’s not too big a site.
