This was a pleasant cheap and cheerful camp site. If you don't mind being close to a road then st Monans offers friendly service, great toilet/wash facilities (and there was hot water if you bothered to wait more than 10seconds) and all within 1 minutes walk of shops, the fabulous green door cafe, the sea, st Monans windmill and bus services. Pitches were limited but booking was easy so no problem there.
It was April, so it was cold, but this didn't stop us having a very enjoyable stay. Remember to take a cheque book to settle up as there are no card facilities.
Pay Mary a visit in the local stores for a macaroni cheese pie and a cup of tea. And say hello from the annoying Bristolians who invaded her wee shop.

May 2005 This campsite reminded me of Fawlty Towers! After "booking" (a very brief phone call in which the woman took my name and size of tent, no other details or card info to hold the pitch) I called the next day again to confirm and she'd only booked the one night rather than two. We arrived to a reception filled with cigarette smoke and old and run down. And again she only had us down for the one night! There were no switch or mastercard facilites and the nearest bank is two villages away.
The tent pitch she "decided" on after looking around the site was around 3 metres from main road (including the pavement!)into the village. Bus stop so close we heard all the local gossip! No-one stays on the site overnight so when another 3 tents pitched up and the occupants drank, spoke and had their cars running till 1am there was no-one to stop them. Needless to say we had no sleep whatsoever due to the road noise and other campers.
The facilities consisted of a phone box, laundry with 1 washing machine and one sink, clean toilets, sinks, 2 showers - ALL COLD WATER. No hairdryers, no handsoap, no shop. This is all fair enough for a cheap site but considering they describe their toilets as "first class" (from their brochure and from Scottish Tourist Board) it is a joke. They also charged us £12 a night!! and their tarriff states £8-10 per night. We asked for our money back as there was no way we were willing to stay for the second night. We were told that we should've "just moved your tent" !! I'm not sure about any other campsites as I've only stayed on a few but I don't think it would be appreciated on most if people just moved their tents - we also pointed out that their was nowhere to move since people just appeared after the warden had gone!
We got our money refunded for second night after being told it had been banked already (our problem? no.)p.s. the tent next to us upped and left after 2 hours and didn't even ask for their money back, just found somewhere else!
