Arrived at the site just after tea-time to find no one about. After calling the number on the reception window, was finally answered after the 14th time. Was told to pitch up and settle the next day, and given the code for the toilet blocks to be used by 'tenters'.

The field used for tents is huge, which is great, but is very open to the elements, and the wind can whip up a right storm. We went out one day to find that our tent was completely flat, struggled to get it back together and ended up using duct tape and a windbreaker pole, and washing line to keep it up for the next couple of nights!

The play area is a decent size with plenty of climbing frames etc to keep the kids entertained for a while

Toilets and shower block are clean and tidy. Free showers, although you have to keep pressing for more hot water - lasts about 10-15 seconds, I think.

Washing up are was covered, 2 sinks, bit of a queue sometimes.

Clean water facility was right next to the garbage bins. And both sets of bins I saw did become quite full at one point, although they were cleared.

Laundry is no where near the tent site. Although had no problems with queueing when I located it. The shower block next to it is bigger and better, with a free hairdryer!

Can't comment on the cafe as we never used it, in fact it was closed early day as no stock

All in all this site does seem somewhat geared more for those in their statics or caravans/motorhomes etc, rather than the tents. The amenities for tents is very very basic. A hairdryer in the shower block and maybe a freezer for freezerblocks would be a good idea.

If you do go here and camp in the tent field, do not go nearest the beach access - that is where it is really windy!

Very friendly & helpful staff, they couldn't do enough to help(even giving kids homemade cookies for journey home!). Toilet block was spotless, plenty of hot water.

Good laundry. Games room for kids(thankfully not always open, major plus!).

Excellent cafe, think it had just opened that season. On site pub provides evening entertainment including kids things (major plus), also they had a weekly bbq which was really good.

Couple of minutes drive into village of Sandhead is a nice hotel for a proper meal! For shopping Stranraer isn't far away.

Only minus is no shop.

This was a great site and we were made very welcome, nothing was too much bother I took my son of eight on my own and got help to park and set up even loaned me a longer hook-up cable as mine was to short to park with a sea view.

The toilets and showers were really clean, and a nice play park for my son. The beach is lovely and clean.

We will be going back again.

Visited this campsite on the 18th August 2009.The site is situated right on the beach which is lovely however the weather wasn't on our side it was very windy and the field that is used for camping is very open, there is no sheltered areas unless you have electric hook up.

The toilet blocks were clean the only one complaint I have is that they are closed for cleaning between 8am - 9am not good if you wake up at 8am and really need to go, there are other toilet blocks but they are a good 5 minutes walk across the other side of the campsite.

Another downside to this site is that the games room and the laundry room are all locked up at 5pm.

Great site, situated next to beach you can launch your boats from beach lots to do,games room, cafe, on site bar. Kids that go most summer very friendly with visitors my kids loved it they made our stay easier. There is a disco for kids once a week, there is various things to do but you have to travel, pitches are gone quickly, book in advance or pitch can be not greatly situated, ours a bit uneven but last minute.Friendly staff.

This site was lovely, right by the beach for the tourer pitches. The toilet units were close by and very clean - you got a key on arrival as they are kept locked - we put this on a string so the kids didn`t leave it - the showers were clean also with hot water available from 7a.M. Until 10p.M. The pot wash area was close by and the water hot and the chemical disposal beside it. The water points was next to where we pitched so was very handy.

We were mid week -Wednesday night until Sunday and it was quiet Wednesday & Thursday, but got a bit noisier Friday and Saturday as there is a pub on the site and there were a lot of tents over the weekend with many young people - many had brought small boats or jet skis for a tagging project for sharks in the bay (this was of great interest to the kids)

There was a small playpark right next to where we pitched, which the kids used well, the beach was about 100yards away with a vast amount of sand even at high tide and was very clean.

The only criticism I have is that there was hardly ever anyone in the reception area, a notice was posted with a mobile number if you needed help. When we arrived it was closed but we were directed to the tourers pitches by a site employee who just happened to be passing and informed us that someone would be along to see to our fees etc., we were nearly fully erected by the time they arrived.

The cost was £20 per night for us and our unit including hook up.

A 6 mile drive took us to Stranraer for supermarket shopping, the village 1 mile away had a small post office / village store for top up shopping.

The site had a small arcade which opened at the weekend and there is an advert up for a cafe opening soon for meals / snacks and takeaway food.

The lack of reception staff aside, I will return to this site as it was lovely - the beach clean and close to hand , the view lovely and the kids loved it - oh and there was an absence of midgies!

First time caravanning and it was a lovely experience. The weather was great while we were there and my son had the run of the beach as we were right beside the beach which was ideal. We could sit outside the van and he had his freedom. We also had walks along the sand dunes and went to the arcade rooms. It has also got a small playground for the kids also plus there was bingo and entertainment at the club Friday and Saturday nights. Outside the club sat a hot food van great food (would recommend) which was there all weekend which was very handy - saved cooking. There was a well stocked shop situated on the site very friendly staff.

Went along to Sandhead village which was about a 2 minute car drive went to tyna mara hotel one night. Would not recommend food and not very helpful wont be back - but there is a large grass play area for the kids to play. Also football goals and basketball again beside beach in the village and a well stocked large selection shop which has just about everything you will need.

If you want a great meal with very helpful friendly staff and beautiful quality meal I would go the 5 minute car drive to Stoneykirk to the COUNTY HOTEL which I would HIGHLY recommend.

We will definitely be returning again to the caravan site this year to the tranquil, quiet, relaxing experience we had last year.

An excellent site, right on the beach. Mainly caravans, but good tent field near play-area. Nice & clean toilets/showers; basically stocked shop. About a 20 min walk into Sandhead where there's a good shop and lovely pub - definitely worth a visit. Food is a bit pricey but worth it! Not a great deal to do locally, but if weather is fine the beach is ideal. Will definitely return!
