Visited in July and was impressed with the site. New shower block is spotless, best I've ever seen. We had our friends and their 2 year old with us and she loved the pool. Overall a very nice site with friendly and helpful staff. Pitches are large, ours had plenty of room for an 8 person tent plus Gazebo (no charge) and car. We kept the 2nd car in the entrance parking space, no problems there at all.
Lovely views and walks but the weather kept us away from the beach. Like the owners say, Cherbourg is but a stones throw away and the surrounding area is very nice for a drive out.
On the slight down side, the site and services (bar, shop, etc) are not the cheapest I've come across. If you're a little shakey on your pins, the higher pitches will be a struggle as the climb up to them is steep, I think I'm fairly fit but you notice the climb, there is a longer winding route for cars that's easier, but the direct route is steep. Also there's no mobile phone signal at all, you need to get in your car and drive 2 mins down the road. OK if you can live with that but an issue if you're awaiting news on something. Also you will need rock pegs for a tent, as the website says it's an old quarry, 3 taps of the mallet and clunk ! solid rock.
All in all though a nice well appointed camp site with charming views and well worth the visit, we certainly enjoyed our week there.

Only stayed here 3 nights. But good clean site with nice child friendly pool.
Nice beach across road which is tidal so is not always able to use through out the day.
Nice pitches but the grass was dead in patches on many of the pitches.
Very close to ferry port, so would maybe use again for no longer than an overnight stop.

A great site in a wonderful location! Hard to fault this site, the staff were very welcoming and helpful. The facilities were good and clean, if a little basic - though had everything you needed. The other shower block was being rebuilt and looked very modern.
Shop had a reasonable selection of items, enough to get by. The location was pretty impressive, a separate bridge to the beach. Pitches were all very good quality, although some near the centre were quite small and I suspect noisy in peak periods.
Overall a great site, we enjoyed it so much we have booked to go again later in the year

Great site overall, toilet blocks spotless, site spotless, good sized pitches and no extra charges for pup tents etc. Restaurant and bar good, not cheap though, same as uk really. Handy little shop. The pool area is so clean , best ever. The area is quiet and a ace base to do all the historic beaches, it has its own beach metres away. Overall I would visit this site again, no faults apart from we had mixed weather, but so have we all I think in aug2008

This is a tidy site and very convenient for the ferry port of Cherbourg. It also has a lovely public beach nearby in a cove that is clean and busy.
However,I do have some criticism. It is an expensive site for what its got. There is a pool and table tennis/bouncy castle. But at 63 Euros per night, it was not worth it. The staff in the reception office (that all wear uniforms and sit behind a counter that resembles a bank) are quite snooty and were not ready to recieve us. They said we had booked different dates. I assured them I hadn't but as far as they were concerned their system was correct and that it was impossible for them to be wrong. 'Computer says no' attitude! I checked my dates and I had booked them via email and they were correct so watch out.
The pitches are good in some case and OK (ish) in others. The chemical toilet points are poorly signed and a lot of people empty their waste into a sluce at the side of the toilet blocks and wash their cassette there whilst other people use the same sluce to fill up with fresh water! The toilet blocks are clean and adequate but not that modern.
There are 2 large tennis courts but you have to pay 5 Euros to use them which I think is mean considering the price of the camping rates. Needless to say there is a shop that is adequately stocked but expensive. A magnum ice cream costs 2.30 Euros (£1.81 at todays rate).
I have stayed at this site before it was owned by Castels. Not much has changed in the 5 intervening years except the prices. It is OK and convenient for a stopover but I would not recommend it as a holiday destination for more than a few days.

Fantastic site. We stayed here twice at the beginning and end of our touring holiday. It is very convenient for Cherbourg ferry port - only 15 minutes drive at the most. However it is a very peaceful, rural location with lovely views out to sea.
The whole site is spotlessly clean. The swimming pools are great - although a little chilly in breezy June weather for young children. There are several playgrounds and the tennis court can be booked for an extra charge. It was quiet in both May and June, but we could choose a pitch and all the facilities were still open, unlike many sites which only keep one toilet block open. Pitches are spacious and separated by hedges. Fresh bread, croissants etc are available from the shop every morning.
The prices quoted on their website seemed higher than the rates if you just turn up, so if you are going outside July and August don't worry about pre-booking as they had loads of spare space.
There were a lot of midges just at dusk so take your insect repellant.

This site was set in a old quarry, on a steep hill side, although the pitches were all level. We became fit from walking up from the beach on a daily basis. The pitches were large, although trying to put pegs in was difficult as there was only about 2" of soil before you hit rock. The site was friendly, very clean and and with plenty of available showers & loos. Our children of 14, 12 and 9, all found plenty to keep themselves occupied. There were lovely walks in the surrounding woods and the cliffs. We had a wonderful two weeks and would recommend the site, although you needed to be able to drive to visit places of interest in the area.

August 2004 Part of the 'Castels' chain of campsites, L'Anse du Brick is a very convenient stopover site situated just a short drive away from Cherbourg. It's also worth considering for longer stays too. Beware the entrance to the site. It's very steep! The small parking area just outside the reception is still on a slope for the longer units. Apart from that, the site's easy to find and is signposted literally as you come off the ferry at Cherbourg! Some of the pitches seemed a little small. Indeed the one that we were given was only just big enough for our 22foot 'van, awning and bedroom annexes. With the car being parked tight in. The access to some of the pitches can be a little 'tight' too, but with the help of our next door neighbour, we managed to swing ours onto the pitch without too much hassle. And, we had a great view over the site pool (very small) onto the beach. The beach is reached via a footbridge over the road, and looks to be very sheltered, in a cove. Sand is good, and the beach is very clean. Site facilities are good. Toilet and shower facilities were spotless even when we arrived fairly late in the afternoon/evening. The kids found the amusement arcade while we set up. The bar overlooks the beach and the bay, and the staff are very friendly, speaking fair English if you don't speak much French. The kids loved the pizzas freshly made on site, which were a reasonable price. The site shop stocks some interesting wines, and calvados. But the bread and milk were late in arriving, which meant lengthy queues. That really is the only criticism of this site. It's a great base for further exploration of the Cotentin Peninsula. D-Day beaches, St. Mere Eglise, Pegasus Bridge, the Mulberry Harbour at Arromanches. Even Mont St. Michel is within easy striking distance. As is the cathedral town of Coutances.

August 2004 We only used this site as a stopover to and from the SW of France. It really is just 15 mins from the ferry port at Cherbourg, although you wouldn't believe it when you arrive. We spent 2 days here on our outward journey, and explored a little of the Cotentin Peninsula. The site's a little hilly, and some of the pitches a little difficult to manoeuvre onto. The pitch we had was overlooking the small bay, a great view I must admit! The facilities are spotless though, and the on-site shop's well stocked, though a tad expensive. The kids really enjoyed the pizzas from the takeaway on site, tasty! The beach looks clean, and wasn't crowded at all, although we were there at the peak time. I'd recommend a longer stay here, as it's really handy for those first-timers who want to visit France, but are perhaps timid of driving/towing in France. The bar area was friendly, the staff speak excellent English, although it doesn't hurt to try out your French. You'll make many more friends, and get larger portions that way! The bar does meals, which looked filling, and the view over the bay is great! there's an arcade with video games, and a games room etc for the kids. The pool is relatively small though, and more of a fun pool rather than somewhere to swim, although it is only a 2 minute stroll to the beach! The surrounding area has alot to offer, being only 15 minutes from Cherbourg, there's shopping a-plenty there. attractions are the Cite de la Mer, and obviously the D-Day Beaches. The Landing beaches are around an hours drive away, as is Bayeux. There are numerous museums dedicated to the Landings, among the best being the Airborne one at St. Mere Eglise, and the one at Omaha Beach. A visit to the area isn't complete without a drink in the Cafe Gondree at Pegasus Bridge. The museum here too is well worth a visit, as are the numerous Allied War Cemetaries in the area. After a hard days touring, relax back at the site bar, watch the sun go down and enjoy that first sip of Calvados! All in all, we found L'Anse du Brick a very friendly, pretty site. Well worth visiting.

Last visit June 2002 A friendly, family-run site approx 15 mins from Cherbourg ferry port. I have used it 3 times, originally on a 24 hr in France, which turned out to be 48 hours due to a ferry strike! 2 years ago we used it for on overnight stop before returning from Cherbourg, but we have also stayed 4 or 5 nights to explore that part of the Cotentin peninsula, which is well-worth visiting. There is a foot-bridge across the road to the sandy beach.
All our visits have been off-season, so can't comment on the state in August, but we have found it clean & the sanitaires spotless (although a small, green frog joined me in the shower on my last visit!). It is used by ready-erected camping firms, so may be v. busy in high season. Pitches vary in size, but are adequate, some are wooded, some open on the hill.
The grocery shop caters for essential needs, but supermarkets are nearby. The pizzeria also does other meals, but there is a superb restaurant (not connected with the site) by the entrance, if you want to splash out on something special (warning - it is closed on Tuesday evening!)
We have found the family friendly & helpful, although their English is limited.
