This campsite was an excellent base for walking the black mountains / sugarloaf - Further afield walking in Brecon national park (pen y fan) was in easy driving distance. Abergavanny is about 25mins drive for supermarkets / cash machine etc. The road leading to the campsite was prone to flooding. The campsite was just a flat field with a tap, but the area was beautiful with the priory and mountains surrounding the site. The loos (no showers) were a short walk across a dark car park. They were what you'd expect for £2 a night. The owners were very friendly and offered advice on local attractions, such as the Big Pit Coal Mine. The pony trekking offered at the farm was cheap and you got to ride up and over the mountains taking in some great views. Within the priory was a bar and just up the road was another pub. The site did fill up at weekend / bank holidays which is a bit of a shock if you have been used to an empty field!
July 1998 Great surroundings. Basically a field with a tap, Toilets are in an adjacent carpark with no lighting. But you go to this campsite for the experience not facilities. Llanthony Abbey is a stones throw away and there is a bar in the cellar of the abbey. Great place for chilling or walking.
