We booked this campsite after reading the previous reviews and everything they say is true! Hilary and Bob are so friendly and helpful but also leave you to your own devices and let you set up camp were you want, within reason.
Lovely peaceful walks/runs only a few mins from campsite and Douglas just 10 min drive away, were there is a laundrette which is handy. Showers and toilets are basic but very clean all the facilities you need when camping!
If you have kids it is perfect as they have space to run, but no playparks. We were booked to go to another campsite but cancelled as we all wanted to stay here! that says it all. Thanks for a great holiday, see you next year.

First time visit to TT Races. Spent 5 days on this site and couldn't have picked a better one to stay at. Easy walking distance of Hillberry Hill and has access to Douglas when racing closes main roads.
Bob and Hilary are fantastic hosts and couldn't do enough for us. The facilities are basic but adequate, this is camping after all and the pricing is very cheap! If you are a light sleeper beware the cockerels and take ear plugs as they cock-a-doodle quite early.
We didn't have much trouble with mosquito's etc, campfires probably helped. Bob and Hilary's daughter provides bacon / sausage / egg baps, tea / coffee to buy. I did notice a trampoline but not really sure what else there is for the kids.

Our first trip to Isle of Man. We hired a 6 man tent and one airbed as we were on motorbikes so space a premium. Both were available & pitched ready for us when we arrived. Pile of old chairs in corner, so apart from TT week you'd probably get a chair or two. We managed to find an old table. Field flat and kept well cut. Hilary & Bob very welcoming and sent clear directions. Camp site is basic and I was surprised to see a fridge / kettle toaster available for use. Obviously this then lets you charge up phones/cameras etc. Site is dated but toilets were clean. Showers old but piping hot. With only 2 other holiday makers on site (There were a bunch of workers staying long term)in middle of August, you can understand why the owners may be reluctant to upgrade the facilities. Hilberry corner only a short walk & the Cat with no Tail pub did a reasonable pub meal for £8. Only 20 minutes walk, so take a torch. Wild hens & cockerels start early and hang around for scraps.

Owners were extremely welcoming and friendly both over the phone when booking and on arrival. Hilary helped to introduce my daughter to the owner of one of the horses in their stable block so she had a free ride!
Loved the free range hens, they are all over the site. Unfortunately, there weren't any eggs for sale!
The site is very basic but the owners don't claim it to be otherwise. The electric hook up functioned perfectly, (run from a point in the male loos). Toilets and showers are basic and the hand sinks small, but adequate for a week away. We did all our washing up in the van. A fridge , toaster etc are provided in a small block if needed. For tenters there are loads of plastic chairs about to borrow and open fires were in evidence.
The entrance to the field with the toilet block is narrow for wider vehicles and needs a good driver to negotiate, but accommodation can be offered in another field with easier access.
Good as a touring base for the island but nearest shop is a decent walk away.
Would be happy to stay there again if we return to the island.

I stayed at Ballacottier after the reviews on this website and have to say they are all true. Bob and Hilary are fantastic hosts for instance I travelled by myself to watch the TT, on arrival Hilary instantly gave me a tour of the site and introduced me to all the campers who were also travelling by themselves, some of which I am still in contact with. The whole Kewley family get involved somehow with the campsite and are all genuinely more than accommodating.
The greatest thing about Ballacottier is Bob Kewley, he is a former TT racer from the late 60's early 70's and sitting around listening to Bob's stories was something money just could not buy, the man's a legend.
I will definitely go back!

This site charges £4.50 per person in a tent. This site truly is well out of the way. The site is in easy walking distance of Hillberry for the TT. If you intend to use the public transport system, the nearest bus stop is around 1&1/2 miles from the site. The owners of the site are extremely welcoming and can offer lots of advice and information about the Island. There is a very laid back approach to running this campsite. The facilities are located within 3 portacabins. The showers are the worst, as one is rusting away, the other has a bowed basin and holds water from the previous persons shower. There is electricity available for charging mobiles etc, along with a microwave, toaster and an old fridge in a makeshift kitchen unit (back section of an old camper van). This is no bearing on the campsite but as the site is surrounded by trees, there are midges and loads and loads of horseflies with nothing else to bite - take your repellent!

Just returned from this campsite, stayed during the TT week. The site was 75% full.
Pros - Very pleasant surroundings among fields, woods and a stream, small shop and snack bar during TT week, very cheap to stay (£4.50 pp), good if you like free range chickens they have a free run of the campsite, the owners were helpful and easy going.
Cons - My biggest complaint was the toilets and showers, these were cleanish but very run down, most of the buildings were old portacabins and were in a poor state of repair, bits of plywood and old doors had been used in their up keep, steps up to the toilets were rotten and collapsing.
Other observations -
Open campfires allowed. Not set out pitches just camp where and as near as you like to your neighbours. The site had good access for viewing the motorcycle racing 1/4 mile away. Poor public transport links, the nearest bus stop was about 3/4 mile away. The nearest large shop was in Ochan 1 mile away. BBQs available to borrow (but were dirty) 1 level camping field, 2 part flat/sloping fields.
It is a shame about the state of the toilets and showers as this could be a nice little basic site

Very friendly site, owners very nice and welcoming, shower and toilet blocks are fine. Shop on site for essentials, we will definitely return in the future. Thanks to both Hillary and Bob. See you again soon.

This is the best campsite we have stayed on, on the island. Very accommodating, the family are so friendly. They even sent us a Christmas card (Thanks!). We stayed during the centenary TT's when everyone was packed in else were, they managed to create a sense of space and harmony.
The facilities never faltered with the high demand and where always spotless. Microwaves and kettles where available. As I said before the family who run this place were very accommodating, charging phones, and making bacon butties.
Will definitely return in the future!

Bob & Hilary are the best hosts ever! So friendly and helpful. The camping fields are lovely - surrounded by mature trees. The facilities are clean and watching the chickens and their chicks is very relaxing. Stevie makes great bacon burgers and other hot food. Campers are international and cooking on campfires is very sociable. The Hilberry TT corner is an easy walk - especially when cars and bikes are parked back to the campsite! Onchan can be reached by an interesting twisty road with steep hills and hairpin bends. Thank you all for making a special holiday so relaxing and hassle free. I cried because I didn't want to go home. Bless you and your wild chickens which roost in the trees.
