This site is a gem! Only downfall is no shower/toilet block as my wife has a lot of hair and the shower in our Lunar Lexon means we need a more powerful shower after 3 nights, although we would have loved to have stayed longer.
It is close to Penrith which we found to be a bonny town, with dog friendly pubs serving good food. However I think the caravan club are mis-marketing this site as it talks about plants on the site! They are nice but this site is within one of the most beautiful places I have visited in the UK; it is the Eden Valley and it is stunning.
Even the dog walks at the site are breathtaking, with stunning lakes and trees, made even more fantastic by the colours at this time of year.
Go to Penrith and buy a local walk book (around the Penrith area about £10) from tourist information and (especially if you have a dog/s) look at the walk from Armathwaite. It starts at the Fox and Pheasant pub (fantastic food and beer), views the river and castle, and circumvents the area over 7miles - Fantastic!.
90% of the pubs are dog friendly, the locals, and the wardens on the site are great, and on Friday teatime you can order fish and chips on site.
My wife (hair factors aside) was sad to leave, and it's only a couple of miles off the M6. The site recycles, but there is little for kids.

We used this site as a stop over for a trip up to Scotland and it is very quiet and pretty. The site is built on the grounds of an old house and I was determined to find the evidence left of the house which consists of two sets of steps which led to the main entrance of the house and the gardens. Our pitch (42) was apparently on the old tennis courts! The wardens were very helpful and provided us with two leaflets one with info about the old house and the other with some short walks around the site. The only downside for us is that it doesn't have a toilet block and we don't have a separate shower in the caravan. (Not an issue if you can shower in your van)
Site info - Wardens very helpful and full of info about the old house. No play equipment for children, plenty of dog walks and all pitches hard standing (some in little cul-de-sacs)
Around the site - Settle and Carlisle railway, Carlisle, Hadrian's Wall.
Overall - super little site

We stayed here on our journey from Inverness to Yorkshire. A real joy of a site, not too far from the M6 and great for a quiet break and relax after motorway travel for most of the day.
As others have said there are no toilets but that is more than made up for by having such a peaceful site. Walks for the dogs are everywhere and not too many distractions for them when they are at home.
Booked again next year for our trip south, so looking forward to visiting again.

We stopped here on our journey back from Scotland since it is just off the M6, about 8 miles or so. What a lovely, peaceful, tidy, well manicured site which is in the grounds of an old manor house, which is no longer there. There are no facilities on this site, but there are electric hook ups, plenty of places to empty your toilets, some lovely walks around the lakes, and just generally a great place to spend time. We could do with a site or two like this where we live! Recommended and good value for money. Not good I think for children, too much water around with the lakes.

First time visit to this site. Blissfully quiet with spacious pitches. This is the site for a peaceful few days or a stop on en route to/from Scotland being only a few miles off the M6.
Lovely dog walks - through the forest and past (deep!)lakes takes you to the nearby village and the 'local' pub. At odds with a previous review we found the landlord very friendly and most helpful. Although closed he saw us sitting outside and offered us a drink anyway and brought the dogs a pint of water too!
A site well worth a visit though perhaps not if you have children as there is little of anything for them to do.

Stopped off here for 2 nights on the way up to Scotland & 1 on the way back. A no facilities site but very nice all the same. Well kept, large pitches, nice secluded areas as well, very pleasant atmosphere to the site.
We managed to visit part of Hadrians wall & Tolkein Tarn on the Saturday. Really got our Scotland holiday off to a great start
Easy to find just off the M6. Can highly recommend for a stop over or longer.

Englethwaite Hall is a beautiful site. The pitches are all quite large and very well kept. We have stayed at the site several times and are always made welcome by the wardens. The only downside is that there are no food shops nearby. The nearest supermarket is a few miles away just off the M6 Motorway. We now go well stocked so that we don't need to go shopping ( apart from going to the site office for ice creams on hot days). We have already booked again for August this year. The TV reception was very good except we could not get ITV even on the freeview channels.

A quiet, remote, countryside site, some way off major roads. Set in the grounds of the now demolished hall, pitches are all hardstanding and generally of generous size, and all are surrounded by magnificent mature trees and shrubs, with lots of birds and wildlife.
A large, open area takes the majority of units. There are also smaller, more intimate areas off the main site road, although these can be shaded by the surrounding woods, which also largely block views.
The occasional rumble and hoot of (very) distant trains will be the only sound to break the peace.
Situated in the Eden Valley, the area's good for walking, and for visits to the northern Lakes. Carlisle and Penrith are worth a day visit, as is the NT property at Acorn Bank.
The closest village is Cotehill, just about within walking distance, although the pub there (The Greyhound) proved to be a major disappointment and is not recommended. Instead, drive the three miles to Armathwaite, where there are two pubs of far greater interest and quality.

Stayed just one night on our return from Scotland but fully intend to return for longer. What a find! Lovely, quiet site, well-laid out pitches (some in 'clearings' though still getting morning or afternoon sun), beautiful surroundings, full of bird-song and friendly wardens. Perfect for anyone looking for peace and quiet, but as previously mentioned, there are no sanitary facilities or playground, so may be less suitable for families with children.

Lovely. Really picturesque, must look great when all the flowers are in bloom. Great areas for letting your dog off his lead too. Only downside is no toilet block, so really I wouldn't want to stay more than a couple of nights, and I don't think families with kids would be able to use it as more than a stop-over. If it had a toilet block I think this site would be full most of the time.
