Visited site for a weekend, what a lovely site. Owners very helpful and welcoming. Although it had been raining it wasn't water logged. The toilets unisex - no problems with queueing however site was not full, this might become a problem when busy.
Lovely walks in area and access to pubs within easy walk. This is the sort of site I adore - room for children to play, room for grown ups too! no manicured lawns - just 'proper' camping!

Camped here with D of E Groups.
Always found the owners very friendly and accommodating.
Small toilet and shower block encompassed within the old buildings of the farm.
Good price,
Butterton has a pub within walking distance for food.
Shop in butterton too.
Will be back in 2008

Nice site, couple of fields to pitch in - we were a motorhome plus friends camping. Lovely views from field we were in. Friendly owners and it all was very clean and tidy.
As others have said in reviews just a couple of toilets plus one shower but it seemed to work well even though other field full up with Duke of Edinburgh groups.
Near Butterton, nice pub in village serving food with friendly service.

We visited the site for the second time in two years. Toilets and shower are unisex and very basic but clean. Ideal for exploring the local area. Nice quiet site and safe for children. Plenty of hens and sheep to see, plus a passing peacock. The pub in the village not very child friendly.

We found this campsite when most others were full over the bank holiday weekend. What a fab campsite. The shower and toilet block was basic, but clean none the less, and at £6 per night for two of us it was a steal. There was no over crowding in the field, and most the other campers were quiet, apart from some Duke of Edinburgh kids on the Saturday night, but hey we were young too once! We pitched our tent at the side of the campsite, and in the morning we awoke to a fantastic view over the valley. Butterton village is about a 15 minute stroll away, where you can find a general store and most importantly of all The Black Lion pub. Both the beer and the food were really good, and reasonably priced. On the Saturday we took a walk into the Manifold Valley, again the views were excellent and there is a small cafe at Wetton Mill which proved very handy. Further down the valley, we visited Thor's Cave, which cannot be missed. Although some of the group were not to happy about the climb to it, we were all impressed with the views from the cave. We had a fab time over the bank holiday weekend, and would definitely revisit The Heathy Roods Farm Campsite. Thanks to Brian and Lily for running a great campsite.

Visited the campsite over Mayday bank holiday weekend and it was a pleasure. The price reflected the fact that there was only 2 unisex toilets and a pay as you go shower, with the only hot water being in the shower. But for £3 per person per night and with the lovely location who cares?
Site is within strolling distance of the Manifold Valley and Wetton Mill. The Manifold valley is ideal for cycling too as it's all on flat well surfaced country lanes/tracks.
The Black Lion in Butterton is only a 10 minute stroll away too. Would recommend

Last visited this site 10 years ago and nothing has changed. Still 2 toilets and 1 shower although we never had to queue - especially if you don't mind doubling up! Site used by Duke of Edinburgh award groups who weren't any trouble (apart from the teachers)! One pitched his tent so close to ours we had to move the awning guide ropes so that cars could get past to the end of the field! Nice views though 'til the teachers pitched in front of us!

After searching for a last minute booking; when all other sites appeared full we chose this site, what a gem for real campers. The views where great, the site a great location, the 'Manifold valley' walk a stones throw away, and site had 'cute; facilities, my fellow tente's words not mine ! (2 Loos, wash area and shower .50p's) fine. The owners where very friendly and in the local village the pub & 'we sell everything' shop was all we needed for our stay. If you need a break from it all here is our secret to share.

Stayed on this site as a group of families. Facilities minimalist, but clean - can be a bit stretched at peak times over busy weekends. Nice to find a fairly flat field to pitch in, with superb views. Friendly owners who froze ice-blocks for us free of charge. Local walking is good, but paths can be a bit over-grown. Local attractions for kids include swimming / paddling in river at Wetton Mill, and availability of ice-creams at the tea-room there! We'll certainly visit again.

Beautiful location with views over the valley below. Within walking distance of Butterton village, which has play park, shop and pub. Field flat but with little shade and only one water point, which depending were you pitch might give you a bit of a walk. Washing / Toilet facilities are communal with two toilets, 1 cold only basin and 1 shower (50p). Stayed Saturday/Sunday night and when busy the facilities are not adequate to cope. However lovely and clean. Overall a good site if you don't mind roughing it a little. Only 9 pounds a night for tent, 2 adults and 2 children so good value.
