This was our first visit and it won't be our last. Beautiful surrounding countryside with a abundance of walks. The wardens (who volunteer and change monthly) were extremely helpful. The site is well maintained with only 20 pitches well spaced out. As previously mentioned the toilet block and showering facilities are a short walk away and were clean. This is a peaceful and very quiet site. Not much for children to do unless they love walks in the countryside.

 Fantastic.

Amazing setting. Beautiful small site with mature trees for shade, if you want to escape this summers heat wave.

The toilets are located a short walk from the site in the grounds of Ilam country park and are used by campers and visitors, immaculate and adequate. There are just two showers accessed via a key pad for the sole use of those using the campsite.

I think there were about twenty large pitches some hard standing. The wardens were very friendly and helpful, we chose our own pitch.

Walks around Ilam are a joy. Dovedale isn't far and the walk there is along the river and very pleasant We had purchased a book of 9 walks around Dovedale, easy to understand and completed just two, prior to our arrival at Ilam, so we will return.

This site is a real gem, wish we had stayed here for the week, instead of one night. We found a leaflet for this site at the small information hut at Milldale whilst on a walk from Dovedale. We had previously been staying at Rivendale campsite.

This is a really beautiful site adjoining the National Trust property. The views are lovely and the site itself is really well maintained. The wardens were really helpful. It's great to stay here and then wander around the NT gardens once all the tourists have gone home. We didn't use the showers but the toilets were fine, though off the site on the NT property. Great location for exploring the Peak District.

If you are looking for peace, quiet and stunning countryside then this is the site to visit. Just walk out of the small site and there are footpaths in every direction. We walked along the woodland paths of Ilam Hall in June and they smelt of wild garlic. Dovedale is a 20 minute walk.

The volunteer wardens were very friendly, helpful and kept everywhere spotless.

As stated in other posts, mobile phone, radio and TV reception is poor due to the location – non existent in my case, but after the initial ‘worry’ that I couldn’t be contacted ended as total bliss!

We went during the week and in term time so no children there so have not given a rating for this.

The toilets and showers are off site, clean and totally adequate. The showers were lovely so used them instead of my own.

This is the best site I have ever been to.

Just home from a couple of days at Ilam and what a lovely site. To be honest can't fault it.

Tidy, lovely views and fantastic walks from the site. I didn't visit any pubs or shops as was only there for a few days, but recommend walking over the tops to avoid the crowds doing Dovedale actually found these path's views much better too.

Toilet and showers only short walk away and the wardens will get shopping for you if you order before 5pm

Yet another brillant visit to Ilam. I love it, such a nice site with volunteer wardens who helped me and had a lot of knowledge about the area. They were helpful and friendly without being obviously in your face.

Lovely walks, brilliant tearoom and NT shop. Although the loo's are not on site there no further distance than some sites I've stayed on.

I understand that there will be showers near the loos for site users in the near future.

I think for a small site (20 pitched) with facilities near, brilliant value for money.

We stayed here for 4 nights and what a great location. The site is in the beautiful Peak District, set in a lovely National Trust Park. The site has well-spaced pitches some with hard standing, Electric hook up is also available, the site is clean and well maintained. The volunteer wardens were friendly and helpful. There are no shower facilities on the site, there are toilets available a short walk away near the Hall which are clean and open 24/7 which can be used by campers. TV and mobile phone reception is poor but who needs these with breathtaking views. The National Trust property is a Youth Hostel. There is a NT visitor’s centre, shop and tea room/restaurant (The Manifold Tea room) where snack meals can be taken. You can enjoy a nice cup of coffee and a lovely view of the estate from the terrace outside. The grounds and gardens at Ilam are relaxing and perfect for dog walking.

There are plenty of places to visit in the area by car or by walking. We walked to stepping stones from campsite and on to Milldale. At Milldale you can buy a well-earned pastie and cup of tea before your return journey we did.

We will definitely be returning to this site again soon

Stayed just one night (1/2 April) and found that this beautiful location was picture perfect. The voluntary wardens were charming and helpful and the site was in beautiful condition.

The adjacent National Trust property (the house itself is a Youth Hostel) provides a tea room/restaurant where snack meals can be taken, while the visitor centre has 24-hour toilet facilities which can be used by campers.

There are wonderful walks in the vicinity and overall this site is highly recommended. Some pitches have a slight slope and there are plenty of hook-up points whether the chosen pitch is hardstanding or grass.

This is a gem of a site, in the beautiful Peak District, set in a lovely National Trust Park.

There are no shower facilities on the site so you need to be self sufficient, there are toilets available a short walk away near the Hall ( the hall is now a Youth Hostel).

The pitches are a good size, with electric hook up and well spaced apart.

There is a NT tea room on site which does the usual stuff-you can enjoy a nice cup of coffee and a lovely view of the estate from the terrace outside.

The volunteer wardens were very friendly and helpful- you can get newspapers delivered if you want one.

There are some great places to visit in the area- we did several of the cycle trails at Tissington and Manifold which were suitable for the whole family, a day out in Bakewell and a visit to the Original Bakewell Pudding shop/ tearooms is a must! We found the area to be very motorhome friendly with ample, easy parking.

We would definitely return to this site.

A stunning site with lovely pitches (some hardstanding) and helpful wardens. Easily accessible and located next to a beautiful NT property in lovely grounds with a public bar and tearoom. No showers/toilets on site, other than approx 300m away in NT buildings. Fresh, local duck and hen eggs can be purchased on site. A great location for exploring the Derbyshire countryside and if you pick the right weekend there are often activities for children and adults in the NT grounds (i. E. Archaeology weekends. ) TV reception is poor but who needs TV when you've got the breathtaking views?!
