Spent a relaxing few days at birches hill. Our first visit. Friendly welcome and useful info pack. Large site so you can spread put without being on top of other caravans. 16 amp hook ups are much better than most CLs. Very dog friendly. Short distance from Ellesmere for supplies and lovely walks. So good we booked for September. Only slight downside could be the slight slopes but there were blocks available.

Had a delightful few days on this lovely CL site.
Lovely views. Plenty of easy walks and cycling opportunities along canal towpaths and footpaths. Many interesting visitor sites within 10 miles.
Couple running it are friendly and helpful. A variety of shops and services in Ellesmere - 1 mile. 2 friendly dogs. Free range eggs available. Pleasant 'Dingle' dog walk. Grass mown regularly. Will be coming back for a longer stay to this tranquil spot.

What a disappointment. After reading about all the awards, and the site website, we expected something rather special.
However it was not as good as many other CL's we've stayed at. At £14 per night it was also significantly more expensive for an undulating field with no facilities other than electric hook ups.
However our biggest criticism was the dogs dirt, as the owner's 2 dogs are allowed to freely roam the site. One morning we awoke to find 3 piles within 10 yards of our van.
Ellesmere, about one mile from the site is an attractive town, with nice walks around the mere, and along the canal.

This was our very first expedition with our first ever caravan. (quite eventful for us in many ways - bit of a learning curve.)
The site has lovely views and the couple running it are very friendly and helpful. Their lovely dog was super soft and friendly also.
There is a lovely little walk (they call the dingle) which I had great fun with my son in a dusk time walk looking for wildlife and which our dog thoroughly enjoyed.
It is only a couple of minutes drive to Ellesmere where we went for a walk around the 'quaint' town - the bakery shop is fab. We spent an afternoon on a lovely walk around 'Colemere' again terrific views.
We had some gale force winds on our first night - a bit of a baptism of fire - but it was brill to wake up to a sunny morning with great views all around, made it all worthwhile.

Excellent site, friendly and very helpful owners Ian and Janet you are met and welcomed by one of them. They loan you a folder for the duration of your stay which suggests places to visit and also recommends restaurants and takeaways and some other very useful and helpful information.
There are superb views of the Welsh hills and the Shropshire hills, very quiet site it is 1 mile from Ellesmere town centre easy walking distance, in the other direction only 2 miles from the Welsh border.
The site has strict 5 van rule although it has 12 electric hook ups, they may ask you to move pitches if staying for a long period so that they can mow the grass. We liked the site so much we are already planning next years holiday.
