Lovely picturesque campsite in the Ffestiniog Valley. We arrived on a Thursday and camped for 3 nights during what was the wettest weekend of the year throughout the whole of the UK, with widespread flooding. Despite this, we camped next to the river and did not get washed away. The owner had his eye on the weather and river levels throughout our stay and advised us that we might have to move up to the top field if the heavy rain continued. Luckily, this didn't happen.
We did however get horrendously midge-bitten. I would seriously advise bringing industrial strength insect repellent and any other defence available, as this almost ruined our stay. Especially as we had a 4 month old baby with us.
While the facilities are modern and clean, the showers are useless. They are of the push-button variety, but only last 5 seconds and are barely more than a trickle. A sign claims that they are 'Low-flow Eco Showers' but this is meaningless as you have to spend a lot longer in them to have a decent wash. The taps in the sinks seem to have decent pressure though, so not sure what the issue is here.
The tumble drier is also pretty ineffective, being a cheap domestic model. This wouldn't normally bother us, but unfortunately all our baby's clothes got soaked overnight. We paid £2 for an hour and it didn't even take the edge off. So we ended up going to a launderette in Porthmadog.
There is a bit of traffic noise first thing in the morning, which might put those off who prefer to be more remote. Other than that, this is a great site in a beautiful part of Wales with many attractions a short drive away. There are 2 good pubs about a mile south both serving real ales and decent food.
If it weren't for the fact that it was an unseasonably wet & cold June, the shower and tumble drier issues wouldn't have bothered us at all and I would recommend this site.

Amazing location next to the river with amazing views down the valley. New toilet block is clean and well maintained, water pressure isn't high, but still easily bearable, and the showers are free so there's no rush and you can soak as long as needed. Washing facilities are good.
Spoke with the owners on a few occasions and found them to be really helpful about local attractions and days-out. The site is superbly located in the national park and a fine distance from the coast to the hills and everything in between.
The lower field (where we camped) has firepits which are brilliant. You can buy wood or they own a woodland over the road where you can pick your own for nada and get yourself some exercise at the same time!
Will definitely come back again!

Spent 2 nights at this sight last year. I was site hopping but did enjoy the stay. The showers were a, just ok, but I don't like saver taps, although I can see the reason for them. I camped in the lower field. Guy who owns the site is very pleasant and helpful. Entrance is a bit tight, don't envy anyone with a big caravan. Ideally situated for Blaenau Ffestiniog and the lovely steam train ride to Phwelli. There is a terrific cafe in Blaenau, turn left out of the car park on to the high street, its a couple hundred yards on the left. Yummy eggs n bacon

Our camping crew (we have six tents, 3 couples, 3 single people, 3 kids and a dog between us) decided on a last minute camping trip to escape the royal wedding and our usual favourites were booked up so we stumbled across this site. What a find this campsite was, we had a fabulous weekend the children could play in the river (although due to lack of rain recently the river was probably lower than normal) We stayed on the bottom field and had good shelter from the wind. The toilet and shower block were nice and clean.
We spent the Saturday on the beach at Harlech and took a walk along the river and up into the hills finishing at the local for a pint on the Sunday. We all agreed to make this one of our favourites and some are planning to return in May.

We really enjoyed our stay at Llechrwd, its so pretty, great views, plenty of space, and none of this silly marked out pitches.
The owners are friendly, and gave us some great advice on where to walk and what to do in the area.
The toilet block is kept clean, and we were so impressed by the size of the toilet cubicles, they even each have their own sink, ideal for having a wash in private, and you don't have to breath in when you shut the door. The showers were free which is brilliant, and unlike other people who have reviewed here, I found them to be perfectly adequate (for a free shower, obviously they are not going to be a power shower). I think the owners are trying new things all the time to improve them (one even has a different shower head which if liked by most people I think they will put in the other 2 as well).
Some people have said that the bottom field is only accessed down a steep grassy slope, which is not true, there is a tarmac drive down to the bottom. We also had a hook up, as long as you park at the bottom of the slope the hookup lead can be ran up the slope, and a bonus of being down there - you hardly notice the road noise :)
The river runs along the length of the campsite, and there are two lovely wild flower meadows, I think the only fault I could find was that I had to go home.
We will definitely be back.

Lovely site, which was clean, spacious and well maintained. Brian was so friendly and recommended things to do in the area, but the kids found plenty to do on the site, with the river running at the bottom and a swing over it. The shower blocks were spacious, with plenty of toilets, all in all the facilities were super, at a very reasonable price. Will definitely visit again. Slightly tricky to get into with a twin axle, but we managed.

I can only echo the previous comments about the showers and the toilet block. Very poor water pressure is extremely frustrating and ultimately a pointless exercise.
Having said that, the site is picturesque. Beautiful river, ideal for paddling, running at the bottom. Yes, it's next to a main road, but we weren't too disturbed. We were on the top field, although in a tent. Which was flat, had hook ups and was nearest toilet block. The usual field for tents has no hookups and is down a steep grassy slope.
Owners very friendly and helpful. Site wasn't too busy, although peak time plenty of room.
All in all we had a great time. We were only there 3 nights so could forgo the useless showers and look forward to long bath when we got home. Any longer and I'd have been looking for a leisure centre for good wash!

We booked this site for 9 nights but left after 4. They do have a new shower block but the showers are hopeless and the building remains unfinished.W e did speak to Brian one of the owners about the poor showers he said there was nothing they could do about them because of poor water pressure. The road which is very close is also noisy and busy. We were told it is a through route to blanau ffestiniog so heavy lorrys use it as early as 6am we can confirm this having been woken even on sunday at this time.
The riverside walk is pretty with a wild flower meadow to walk along side but to access other footpaths from the site would mean walking along the busy road. Getting onto the site is not easy we have a twin axle caravan and it was very tight. We did email the owners regarding access and was told it would be fine.

We spent a week at this site in a very soggy August 2008. All in all it was a reasonable site.
The pitches were of a good size and not marked so in theory you could take as much space as you needed. There are two terraces, the top is really for vans and motorhomes and is closest to the loos and showers. The Hook up points are along this level.
The lower terrace is for tents, the drop down to this level is quite steep. The owner of the site has put some stones and slabs on the slope to try and stop cars from churning up the ground, but in bad weather it can be very slippery and I fell over on the slope several times. It certainly would be no good for anyone with mobility problems. Also if you want EHU on the lower terrace, you need to run your lead to the upper terrace. We needed to use both of our extension leads AND ask two motorhome users to move their leads to a different point to make the leads reach. The owner will hire out extension leads if he has any free.
The toilets and showers are in a fairly new wooden block, they are kept clean and the showers are reasonably good although the water flow is fairly weak. The owner was attempting to remedy this when we were there. They are at the top of the slope, there is some lighting at night, however a torch is needed if you are on the lower terrace.
There are no other facilities on this site, although the river provided some entertainment to the children, it is fairly shallow and so they were able to play there under supervision. If the site were full there wouldn't really be much in the way of space for children to play as the terraces aren't particularly wide.
It is possible to buy eggs and homemade jam from the farm, there is an honesty box in the lobby area. There aren't any shops in walking distance but Bleanau Ffestiniog is only a short drive with a big supermarket there.
The site is well located for local attractions, there are lots of opportunities for birdwatching and the site has lots of bats at dusk.
It is a nice site as long as you are aware of the limitations. Don't go there expecting anything other than a basic farm site with loos and showers and you'll be fine. We probably wouldn't return as there really wasn't enough space for the children to play and also the weather is so unreliable in that part of the UK. I would say this site was most suited to couples who are into walking and birdwatching etc and want a quiet good value base to stay.

After a long break from my last camping trip (teenagers not wanting to go anymore) I booked a last minute break for my family and friends. It was with some trepidation that the forward party reported the field was full of mud and almost impassable in a normal vehicle. On arrival we discovered this to be true and having been the one to book was a little worried especially as the mud patch was right outside the toilet block. My friends would especially love their small children being covered in mud! Anyway we managed to access a couple of pitches and pitched our tents. The pitches themselves were on the upper field with EHU and drained fairly well. A previous reviewer mentioned the micro climate and this has always been a feature of this area - the weather clears across Cardigan Bay and the Llyn Peninsula just before dumping its rain a little inland. We managed a mixed bag of weather with some lovely sunshine in Barmouth which is about a 40 minute drive (the butchers near the Spar on the Harlech to Barmouth Rd is excellent - minty lamb to die for). Anyway after a couple of nights of rain and some entertainment in watching the non 4 wheeled drive vehicles being towed through the mud the entrance became virtually unpassable. A layer of hardcore is needed outside the toilet facilities. This, the feeble showers and the busy road as mentioned by previous reviewer were the downsides. I have to say the kids were really sensible and didn't get too mucky. On the upside the setting is lovely, the river clean and on a dryer spell ideal for the kids to play in in dinghy's and there is a nice short wild flower walk along the banks for those with dogs. There are a range of attractions such as Portmeirion and seaside towns Porthmadog, Harlech, Barmouth nearby. The owner and his dog were very pleasant and helpful and despite the fact it was bank holiday there was enough space. We were allowed to use our brazier with a fire which was fantastic as it kept us all warm and the kids happy. Overall I think we were happy campers and I am sure I will go somewhere again next year - I may even return here.
